Chapter 1225 She Once Had a Daughter Named Cassie
Cassie scrunched up her face, looking all kinds of annoyed.
Joseph grabbed her hand, "Forget about her. Who the heck is Ralph anyway?"
"Ralph's got a new gig," Cassie said, thinking about how the Dixon and Jude families were tight. Now that Carl was running the show, Ralph was riding high too.
"So what?" Joseph shrugged, "I don't give a damn about him. But according to Marigold, is David trying to get in good with the Dixon family again?"
Cassie found it weird too. David had always been sucking up to Ralph, but after Marigold's birthday bash, Ralph got humiliated and started hating David. They shouldn't be talking now.
"David's got some tricks up his sleeve," Joseph said, frowning. "I've been too busy with the Hernandez Group to keep tabs on him. Didn't expect him to not only land a big international deal but also get chummy with Ralph. I don't get it. David's got such a bad rep, why would Ralph even bother?"
Cassie was just as puzzled and felt uneasy. "The biggest mistake of my life was marrying David. Divorcing him was even worse than divorcing you."
"Who was it that told me he was a good guy and that you wanted to make it work with him?" Joseph shot back.
Cassie was so ticked off by his words she didn't even want to respond.
Knowing she was upset about this, did he really have to push her buttons now?
"Alright, chill. I'll call Lucas and get the lowdown on the Wit Group." After getting in the car with her, Joseph immediately called Lucas, "Where you at?"
"Hospital."
Joseph checked the time and was surprised. "It's late. Got surgery?"
"What's up?" Lucas clearly didn't want to chat about that.
"I wanna know about the Wit Group," Joseph said, "Their stock price has been going through the roof lately."
"David signed a deal with Talandia. Even though Talandia's behind Madison, their pharmaceutical market's in short supply. David cracked that market and signed a ten-year deal, so the stock price shot up," Lucas explained, "You've been swamped lately, so I didn't want to pile on."
Joseph rubbed his temples. "David was almost done for. How'd he manage to crack the Talandia market?"
"I think it’s got something to do with the Morris family," Lucas said, "Someone from the Morris family was a diplomat in Talandia for ten years and knows the local bigwigs."
Joseph instantly got it, his face turning red with anger.
David must've used Olivia's connections to get close to Dale, who then helped him out.
Olivia and David had been in cahoots for four years now.
Joseph now wished he could crush the Morris family. Because of that idiot Dale trying to impress Olivia, David had bounced back.
"There's one more thing," Lucas added, "David seems to have cozied up to Ralph. I had told major hospitals not to use the Wit Group's drugs, but Ralph spread the word on the down-low. Now, major hospitals are using their drugs. This means David's not just going international; he's making moves here too."
Joseph felt like crap. Marigold's heads-up was one thing, but hearing it straight from Lucas hit different. "How the hell does Ralph have the guts to go against you?"
Lucas sighed. "Carl's been tight with Ralph for over a decade. Now that Carl's in charge, he leans on Ralph big time. Ralph's in the spotlight now, not like before. Talking to Carl about this is pointless; their bond with the Dixon family is too strong. Even if they plan to ditch the Dixon family, it won't be for another six or seven years."
"I get it. I'm not that clueless." Joseph hung up, his face darkening.
He hadn't seen it coming that after taking down the Morris family, the Dixon family would rise with the Jude family taking the reins.
He knew how tight the Dixon and Jude families were from Marigold's birthday bash.
Now that David had cozied up to the Dixon family, who knew how far he'd go.
Plus, the force backing Olivia would likely make a move on the Jude family. It was up in the air whether Carl could handle the heat from Olivia's backers.
"Do you think David used Olivia's connections to get in with the Dixon family?" Cassie wondered, frowning. "Ralph really didn't want to deal with him before. Honestly, he looked like a suck-up, and someone like Ralph wouldn't give him the time of day."
"You might be onto something." Joseph nodded. "Cassie, we're in a tight spot now."
Cassie sighed. "I still don't know who's backing Olivia."
"Maybe we'll find out tomorrow." Joseph raised an eyebrow. "After the Morris family fell, that force will definitely approach the Jude family."
Cassie suddenly got it.
As they were about to head back to the villa, Cassie's phone rang.
It was Aiden.
She hesitated for a moment but answered, "Dad."
"Cassie, I sent someone back to Silverwood to check things out," Aiden said, sounding bitter. "The cemetery manager said a middle-aged couple visited your grandparents' graves recently, along with two young people who seemed to be their kids."
Cassie was at a loss for words.
She could feel Aiden's pain, just like she felt uneasy hearing this.
So Isabella was alive, married, and had a son and a daughter.
Did she even remember she once had a daughter named Cassie?
"Dad, I got it," she said, taking a deep breath and trying to sound strong.
"Cassie, I won't dig any further," Aiden said, not feeling sorry for himself. Isabella getting married was his own fault, but he felt bad for Cassie. "Like you said, let's just consider her dead twenty years ago. She has a perfect life now and probably doesn't want any ties with us."
"Okay." After hanging up, Cassie opened the window to let the wind dry her eyes, afraid they'd turn red.
"What did Aiden say to you?" Joseph noticed her odd mood.
"It's a secret between my dad and me," Cassie replied, looking down at her phone.
If there was still a chance to reconnect with Isabella, she would tell Joseph.
But since it was impossible, there was no need to tell him.
Joseph was already dealing with a lot, so she didn't want to add to his worries.
