Chapter 1521 There Is Someone I Really, Really Like

After Laura finished vomiting, she started sweating all over again, feeling completely exhausted.

She closed her eyes and heard Derek bustling around the room for a while. He went downstairs and quickly came back up, holding her and feeding her the medicine.

She didn't know how she fell asleep afterward.

When she woke up, it was daylight outside, and the heater was on in the room.

She slowly sat up, feeling a bit weak but much more comfortable.

On the chair beside her, Derek was sleeping, leaning back with a thin blanket over his waist. He was wearing a green pajama top that looked familiar. After thinking for a while, she remembered it was something Michael used to wear.

Sunlight seeped through the thin curtains, falling on his tired but still handsome face. He was sleeping deeply.

Laura was in a daze for a long time.

She remembered that after she vomited last night, Derek stayed by her side the whole time.

Derek kept checking her temperature.

If it were in the past, she would never dare to fall asleep so recklessly while having a fever, because if the fever didn't go down and got worse, it could damage her brain.

But she subconsciously thought of Derek being there, so she felt at ease.

Thinking back, she realized how miserable she had been last night.

She vomited so much that she felt quite disgusted with herself, and the room must have smelled bad.

But Derek didn't mind at all and stayed with her all night.

He even cleaned up the vomit in the trash can.

To avoid waking him, Laura quietly got out of bed.

However, the screech of the bathroom door sliding open still woke him up.

He sat up, rubbed his temples, and looked at the light in the bathroom, quickly understanding.

Laura didn't realize he was awake. After washing up, she came out and saw the chair was empty. She put on a thick pajama top and went downstairs to find Derek.

In the kitchen, Derek was busy.

Laura walked over and saw Derek chopping green onions.

A wave of emotion surged in Laura's heart. "Why didn't you sleep a bit longer?"

"Got hungry." Derek glanced at her, then at his hands, one holding a knife and the other holding scallions, both not very clean.

He paused for two seconds and suddenly bent down towards her.

Derek's face moved closer to hers.

Laura's mind flashed with scenes from some TV shows, and just as she was panicking, his forehead suddenly touched hers.

"Your fever fades," Derek said.

Laura was silent.

Derek was just checking her temperature, and she thought he was going to kiss her.

Blushing, she angrily said through gritted teeth, "If you want to check my temperature, can't you use your hand?"

"My hands are occupied, and even if they weren't, they're not clean." Derek shrugged with a smile. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." She glared at him, feeling very embarrassed.

"What did I do wrong?" Derek looked innocent.

"Can you not check my temperature like that next time?" Laura hesitated for a long time before speaking, "That's something only couples do, it's too intimate."

"You mean Michael used to check your temperature like that?" Derek raised an eyebrow.

"No," Laura denied.

"Did your ex-boyfriend check your temperature like that?" Derek asked.

"No," Laura answered, suddenly feeling deflated.

"Then why do you say it's something only couples do? You and your ex-husband and ex-boyfriend never did that," Derek chuckled, "I really had no choice, I was afraid you'd mind my dirty hands."

Laura was silent.

"Are you feeling better?" Derek continued chopping scallion and asked.

"I'm much better, just a bit of a sore throat." Laura looked at his long fingers. "Thank you for last night. I didn't throw up on you, did I?"

"No, the doctor said as long as you don't keep having a fever, you'll be fine after resting for two days. Go sit down, I'll make breakfast for you." Derek gently reminded, "It'll be quick."

Hearing this, Laura realized she was really hungry.

She turned and walked out.

Several minutes later, Derek brought out breakfast.

The fragrant soup was sprinkled with a layer of beautiful scallions, making it very appetizing.

"You're so fast." Laura sat down, blew on the soup, and took a sip. "Did you buy these last night?"

Derek smiled, "Eat first, I'll go brush my teeth and wash my face."

Laura watched his back, then looked at the breakfast in the bowl, feeling very touched.

Derek was so kind to her, she didn't even know how to describe it.

After breakfast, while she was resting, Derek prepared her medicine. "You should rest at home today. I'll go to work. I'll have someone bring you lunch, and I'll make dinner for you tonight."

"No need," Laura quickly said, "I'll go back to the Presidential Palace in the evening. I'll have the nanny sleep with Maeve on the first floor, and I'll stay upstairs. I really miss Maeve."

"Okay." Derek thought for a moment and agreed, "Then I'll come to pick you up after work."

"Will it interfere with your work?" Laura hesitated.

"I get off work at 5:30 PM anyway," Derek smiled faintly, "It's good for me to do something to distract myself."

Hearing this, Laura remembered how he looked when he was drunk the night before, and then thought of that messy kiss.

She closed her eyes, took the medicine, and drank some water before asking complicatedly, "Is that man the one you like?"

There was a moment of silence in the air.

Derek looked down at her, his gaze deep and soft, "I have someone I really like in my heart, but I think being with the person I like will face a lot of obstacles. I don't think anyone will support us being together; everyone will probably think it's ridiculous."

For some reason, Laura felt a shortness of breath under his gaze.

She couldn't understand why he was looking at her with such a doting expression when the person he liked wasn't her.

"Will you support me?" Derek asked softly.
