Chapter 1671 The Best Outcome
"Say whatever you want."
Michael's heart trembled, but he mocked with a smile, "You want to kill me, pin any crime on me, I have nothing to say."
Julia looked at Michael in this state.
Julia turned away with difficulty.
Michael was too disappointing.
This kind of Michael was beyond saving.
Derek nodded, "You can deny it, but there are some things we can't risk. You know too much."
After speaking, he glanced at the doctor behind him.
The doctor put down a box, opened it, and took out a syringe.
"What are you doing, what are you trying to do?" Michael saw this and panicked, struggling frantically, "Let me go, Julia, untie me quickly, do you really want me to die?"
Julia stood with her back to him, motionless, like a statue.
"Michael, we never wanted you dead." Derek looked at him bitterly, "Don't worry, after this injection, you'll forget all the unhappy and painful things from before. In the future, you'll be carefree."
Michael understood and became even angrier, "What right do you have to take away my memories? I don't want to forget."
His arms hurt from struggling, and Michael could only beg, "Derek, you can't do this, I'm your cousin, let me go, I promise I won't oppose you anymore, this time I was confused, I was just angry, really."
Derek sighed inwardly. If Michael had kept cursing and hating him, Derek might have softened.
The truly terrifying thing was Michael's desperate attempt to hide his hatred for survival.
Such a person had become like a venomous snake. If you weren't decisive, just letting Michael go once, he would strike from the grass when you least expected it.
"Sorry, I can't trust you."
Derek waved his hand.
The doctor approached with the syringe, and several others came to restrain the violently struggling Michael.
"Derek, you'll die a horrible death." Michael's eyes turned venomous, filled with icy hatred, "My biggest mistake in life was being your cousin. You'll get your comeuppance sooner or later. I curse Laura to betray you, curse you both to die miserably."
Derek's temples throbbed, "Michael, I'll say this one last time, Laura and I have done nothing to wrong you. We are upright. I know you won't listen no matter how much I say. You hate Megan, but in reality, you've become someone like her. Don't always focus on others, look at how many things you've done wrong."
"You didn't cherish Laura and your child. Don't think you're the most wronged person in the world. Think about your parents and grandfather who loved you the most. Why don't even they side with you anymore?"
"Why have your best friends and buddies distanced themselves from you? Please reflect on your behavior."
"Look at Julia and Aaron, they are also heartbroken to see you like this. Many people still love you. You don't need to be afraid. In your future life, your family will protect you."
With that, the syringe was injected into Michael's arm.
Michael's eyes widened.
Tears welled up in Michael's beautiful eyes.
Maybe Michael knew he was about to lose all his memories. Past scenes suddenly flashed clearly in his mind like a movie.
At that moment, Michael recalled many things. He thought of Joseph, Lucas, Megan, Laura, Maeve, and his parents and grandfather.
So many, so many, he wanted to grasp desperately, but a wave of darkness overwhelmed him.
He couldn't hold on much longer.
Until a warm embrace gently held his head.
Julia's gentle voice sounded in his ear, "Michael, sleep peacefully. I promise you, I will protect you like when we were kids. You will always be my dearest brother. You took the wrong path, but I will stay with you and won't let you go wrong again."
"Julia," Michael cried out in pain and regret.
He also wanted to understand why he had become like this.
But his world had already plunged into darkness.
The doctor withdrew the syringe and said, "Mr. Derek, another injection in two hours, and it will be completely effective."
"When will he wake up?" Derek asked with a complicated expression.
"In a day."
"Untie him, and after the injection, send him back to Whispering Pines Manor."
Derek sighed lightly and gently patted Julia's back, "This might be the best outcome for Michael."
"I understand."
Julia took a deep breath, stood up straight, and closed her eyes.
Forgetting some things might be a relief.
Seeing Michael become like this was inevitably heartbreaking.
"I had the doctor reduce the dosage," Derek suddenly said, "His IQ will be about that of a ten-year-old child."
Julia turned to him in surprise, then said after a moment, "Thank you."
An IQ of about ten years old was much better than being a fool. He could laugh, play, and live independently, pure and innocent. It was already very good.
"You're welcome. After all, he is my family too."
Derek also felt uneasy.
After all, they grew up together. He and Michael didn't have to end up like this.
Next, Derek was busy with work handover.
The matter between him and Laura also gradually calmed down online.
After a few busy days, Derek went to report to his parents, "I've already spoken to Professor Brice Darden at Evergreen University about taking the preliminary exam at the end of the month, so I plan to temporarily move out of the Presidential Palace to study seriously. My place is closer to Brice's house, and it's more convenient to consult him if I have any questions."
Carl snorted, "Consulting and studying are probably just excuses. You want to move out to date, right?"
The lie was quickly exposed, but Derek remained calm, "Dad, I genuinely want to study. Don't slander me."
Derek paused, then added with a smile, "But it is indeed more convenient to date if I live outside. Sometimes it's too far to come back to the Presidential Palace after a date."
Violet saw through Derek's little scheme but didn't stop him, only asking, "You don't plan to move in with Laura, do you?"
"I would like to," After saying that, Derek received two big eye rolls from his parents and could only awkwardly touch his nose, "But Laura's parents wouldn't agree, and Laura wouldn't either."
Carl relaxed. He didn't want the two to live together so soon.
He hoped they would break up eventually.
Of course, this was just Carl's private thought.
Carl didn't bother to stop him.
"Mom, Dad, don't worry. If you need me, I'll be there immediately," Derek said with a smile, "But I've lived for twenty-six years with little freedom. I want to take advantage of these years of doctoral study to relax occasionally. I get tired too."
