Chapter 340

"Look at you. You used to be bold, and now you're cowering like a little mouse."

Laura Miller was fuming. "Let me be clear: all those things I said when I approached you for her legal case were lies. None of it had to do with her. She was locked up; I could see her face. She didn't know anything."

Cassie massaged her forehead, seeing Joseph's face turn as dark as ink, and stepped before him. "Laura did it to save me. It's not her fault. Don't hurt her."

Joseph looked at her protective stance, feeling both irritated and sad. Did he seem like a devil to her now?

"Move aside, I'm hungry."

"What?"

"I said I'm hungry. Can't you understand that?" Joseph pulled her by the hand to sit down at the table.
There was a spread of barbecued food, and he frowned. "Where's the food I like?"

“Umm…” Cassie hesitated to speak.

"Never mind. I’ll try to keep up with your tastes." Joseph reluctantly picked up a fork, and the only thing he could eat was the oysters. Perhaps he hadn't eaten properly in France, but he found it surprisingly good after trying one. "Oysters. I'll have another plate, please."

Cassie and Laura Miller exchanged a look, unable to believe he was letting it go just like that.
After the late-night snack, Laura Miller made an excuse and left early.

Joseph wrapped his arm around Cassie as they got into the car. "What did you guys plan to do next?"

Cassie was puzzled. "We were going to watch a movie."

Joseph raised an eyebrow and dialed Walter on his phone. "Book the entire South Mall cinema. I'm taking Cassie to a movie."
