Chapter 1125 Lucas, Do You Know Ms. Ramsey?
Bernice kept checking her phone while sipping coffee, not even looking at Lucas.
Seeing Lucas raise an eyebrow, Laura quickly said, "Mr. Nelson, this is my friend Bernice. She's a big star, but don't get any ideas. You're about to get married."
Lucas chuckled. "Ms. Miller, I'm not easily tempted."
Laura blinked innocently. "Not really, but I've heard you don't have the best reputation, so I'm a bit concerned."
"Then you've misunderstood me." Lucas glanced at Bernice and smiled. "Usually, it's women who flirt with me, especially actresses."
Laura and Cassie felt annoyed. Bernice was their guest, and Lucas's comment was rude.
Joseph and Michael also found it odd since Lucas rarely insulted women.
"Mr. Nelson," Cassie frowned.
Bernice chimed in, "Mr. Nelson, I heard your wife, Sarah, is also an actress. Did she flirt with you when you first met?"
Cassie and Laura thought Bernice handled it well.
Lucas toyed with his coffee cup. "Bernice, maybe I was too lenient with you last time. A loss is a loss."
"Lenient?" Bernice laughed. "I think you misunderstand what lenient means."
Lucas's face turned cold.
Sensing the tension, Joseph quickly interrupted, "Lucas, do you know Ms. Ramsey?"
"Not really. She's just an actress signed with Dreamscape Entertainment Group, which I invested in," Lucas said indifferently.
"I made a few million dollars for Dreamscape this year," Bernice said just as indifferently.
"A few million isn't big money," Lucas chuckled.
Bernice smirked. "Mr. Nelson, you shouldn't say things like that in public. People will hate you for it."
"Who dares to hate me?" Lucas tapped the table rhythmically.
The room grew quiet again.
Joseph and Cassie exchanged a glance, both feeling helpless.
This meal was far from peaceful.
First, Laura and Michael argued. Now, Lucas and Bernice were trading barbs.
It was exhausting.
"How about some wine?" Joseph suggested, trying to change the subject.
"Do as you please," Bernice and Lucas said simultaneously.
After speaking, Bernice glanced at Lucas, who smirked. "We really are in sync."
Laura tapped the table lightly. "Mr. Nelson, remember you're marrying Sarah."
Mentioning Sarah made Lucas uncomfortable. He glanced at Michael. "Keep an eye on Laura. Pregnant women shouldn't eat certain things, especially swordfish. High mercury content."
Laura, about to take a bite of fish, was furious.
"Lucas is a doctor. Listen to him," Michael quickly took the fish away from her.
Laura took a deep breath, and Cassie quickly said, "Let her have a piece. One piece won't hurt."
"Only one piece," Michael said, giving her the smallest piece of fish.
"None of your business," Laura snapped.
"It is my business. I care about the child," Michael said cautiously. "Even if you don't let him acknowledge me, you can't stop me from caring."
Laura ignored him and rinsed the fish in cold water.
Michael's face darkened. "I'm not sick."
"How would I know? You dated Megan for a while. Who knows what you might have caught."
Michael's face turned red with anger. After a long pause, he finally said, "I never had sex with Megan, okay?"
Joseph and Lucas coughed awkwardly.
Lucas looked at him strangely. "Do you have a problem with sexual function too?"
"Who does?" Michael retorted. "I'm not the type to sleep around. I believe in waiting until marriage."
He then turned to Laura. "That time was an accident."
Laura blushed with embarrassment.
"Are you implying that Joseph and I always fool around with other women?" Lucas suddenly asked.
"No." Michael quickly lowered his head and ate in silence. He regretted coming to this dinner; it was exhausting.
"Let's not talk about that. Cheers." Cassie raised her glass.
Michael picked up his glass, thought for a moment, and put it down. "I'm still recovering. I can't drink."
"I drove," Bernice said.
Joseph added, "I have to drive too."
Cassie was speechless. It seemed like only she and Lucas could drink.
"Mr. Nelson, congratulations on your upcoming wedding." Cassie raised her glass. "Wishing you a happy family."
Lucas was silent, thinking, 'No, could you stop saying that?'
After that, Joseph, fearing another argument, shifted the conversation to business matters.
Cassie ate for a while, then suddenly looked at Bernice. "Do you like herring too? I had a friend who loved it."
"Yeah," Laura added.
However, Joseph, Lucas, and Michael knew who Cassie was referring to.
Lucas was stunned for a moment, lost in thought for a couple of seconds.
Bernice paused, then smiled faintly. "I think herring is delicious. I've had enough salmon."
"Really? I think herring gets old too," Lucas said, raising an eyebrow as he picked up a piece of herring.
Bernice looked up and met Lucas's deep gaze. She easily caught a hint of malice in his eyes. She smiled. "For you, even sex with women gets old, let alone a mere fish."
"You really get me." Lucas laughed charmingly.
Anyone unaware might think they had something going on.
"I can't help it. I've seen plenty of people like you in the entertainment industry." Bernice ignored his gaze.
"I've seen plenty of women like you," Lucas said, swirling his wine glass. "Always trying to catch my eye."
His eyes darkened, and he suddenly fell silent.
