Chapter 909 Stop Bothering Me, Let Me Go
"Mr. Hernandez, please focus on your health," Nathaniel reminded him. Our company's high-end chip is about to succeed. Soon, not just domestically but globally, everyone will be placing orders with the Hernandez family. This time, our family will reach a new level."
Joseph remained silent. Indeed, the Hernandez family would continue to develop, and his wealth had already become immeasurable. But there was no need to amass so much money anymore; the woman Joseph wanted to spend it on had grown to hate him.
Suddenly, his phone vibrated. It was a call from Megan, along with several explanatory news messages she had sent earlier. He didn't even feel like opening them; he only felt annoyed.
That evening, Dragon's Travis called, "Mr. Hernandez, Miss Ray attempted suicide by slitting her wrists in the villa's bathtub."
Joseph straightened his back, his voice tense. "How is she now?"
"Fortunately, we found her in time and rushed her to the hospital. I'm in the ambulance on the way there. I've already notified Nathan. Mr. Hernandez, do you want to come over?"
Joseph replied indifferently, "I just had surgery. How can I come over?"
"Alright." Travis was somewhat surprised; he had thought Mr. Hernandez would be anxious to rush over immediately.
After all, in the past, no matter how important the business was, if Megan had any issues, Mr. Hernandez would drop everything and go to her.
Travis glanced down at the pale-faced Megan lying in the ambulance. As a man, he might have felt pity before, but after seeing it so many times, he had become numb. After all, this wasn't Megan's first suicide attempt, and recently, Miss Ray had been hospitalized so frequently that it seemed she had made the hospital her home.
In the hospital room, Joseph also made a call to Lucas. Lucas had just finished a grueling six-hour surgery and was exhausted, ready to rest, when he heard Joseph's words, which left him speechless with anger.
"Is Megan addicted to suicide? Should I just rent her a room in the hospital?" Lucas cursed.
"Megan is really harsh on herself," Joseph said with a bitter smile.
Since that court trial, Lucas had been able to think more rationally about many things concerning Megan. Moreover, Megan had been staying in the hospital so often lately that Lucas was constantly shuttling between the hospital, his company, and his home without much rest. Lucas was tired, too.
"Yeah, it's as if we are responsible for her life," Lucas said, feeling annoyed.
He used to treat Megan like a sister and sympathized with her plight. But Megan's misfortunes weren't their doing. She kept getting into trouble—falling down stairs, nearly being assaulted, attempting suicide at home. As a doctor, Lucas had seen too many patients lose their lives to severe illnesses. He respected life, but with Megan, he didn't feel she respected her own life.
In the morning, when Megan slowly woke up, she saw only Nathan playing a game beside her. She looked around the hospital room and almost fainted. "Where's Joseph? Didn't he come? What about Lucas?"
"Lucas came by last night and left after a quick look. Mr. Hernandez hasn't come at all." Nathan put down his phone, irritated. "Mr. Hernandez is really heartless. You almost died, and he didn't even flinch. Megan, do you think they might be tired of your suicide attempts?"
"Shut up." Megan glared at him fiercely. "Do you think I want this? He won't take my calls, and I can't even see him. I have to make him believe that I'm innocent in the matter with Spencer."
"But I think he doubts you." Nathan sighed. "I think you should give up on Mr. Hernandez. Mr. Jude isn't bad either."
"Don't mention him to me. The Jude family still locks up that useless man." Megan closed her eyes.
A man as outstanding as Joseph, no one in all of Madison could compare. Giving up on him was something she couldn't reconcile with. Besides, Megan genuinely liked Joseph. Otherwise, even though Joseph couldn't touch her for the past three years, she hadn't left him.
This was the only time Megan had been hospitalized, and Joseph hadn't shown any concern.
The next day, Megan couldn't hold it in any longer and lost control in the hospital room, smashing things, making a scene, and threatening to kill herself. Megan knew that Dragon's people were outside the door and would report this to Joseph.
Fortunately, on the third day, Joseph finally appeared.
But Joseph was sitting in a wheelchair, wearing the same hospital gown as Megan. His handsome face had grown thinner, making his features even more angular and cold. His long, dark eyes stared at Megan, making her inexplicably uneasy.
"Joseph, what... what happened to you?" Megan looked at him in great surprise. "Are you hurt?"
Nathaniel said quietly, "Mr. Hernandez had a stomach perforation and underwent surgery. The doctor said he shouldn't get out of bed, but Miss Ray, you've been causing a scene every day that Mr. Hernandez had no choice but to come."
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to. I didn't know," Megan's eyes reddened.
But she felt a bit of joy in her heart. So, he hadn't come not because he didn't care about her; it was because he had surgery. But he still insisted on coming today, so he must still care about her, right?
"So, now that you know, can you let me go?" Joseph's handsome brow furrowed deeply, and there was even a hint of weariness in his eyes.
Megan was stunned, and then unease surged up. "Joseph, you misunderstand me. I didn't want to cause trouble while you were sick. I was just in so much pain, especially thinking that you might misunderstand me."
"So, you had to slit your wrists?" Joseph interrupted her, glancing at her wrist. "If you don't want to live so much, have you bought your burial plot?"
"What?" Megan was stunned, unable to believe Joseph would say such a thing.
Nathan, who was even more agitated, shouted, "Mr. Hernandez, that's too much. Are you trying to drive Megan to her death?"
"Did I say anything wrong? She wants to die; you can't blame me for that," Joseph retorted.
Nathan was momentarily speechless.
Joseph's lips suddenly twitched. How had he been so blind before? These two siblings always played off each other, making it seem like he was the villain if he didn't care about Megan.
"Megan, tell me, is it really that hard to stop bothering me and let me go?" Joseph questioned.
Megan's body trembled. For the first time, Joseph had said something so heartless. It was as if he was truly fed up with her.
"Joseph, I'm sorry." Megan covered her face and cried. "I don't want this. I know it has caused you trouble."
"Megan, there's nothing to apologize for," Nathan said fiercely. "Mr. Hernandez, you're too heartless. Have you forgotten who cured your illness? Megan has been with you through so many hardships. Even if you can't be lovers, you can at least be friends?"
