Chapter 1458 I Might Be Your Sister

"Ms. Ramsey," Dashiell stammered, "What are you gonna do if we leave?"

"Exactly," chimed in the driver who'd been working for Bernice. "With Michael's skills, he'll find this place in no time."

"That's why I'm telling you to go," Bernice shot a glance at Megan. "I never expected to walk away from this unscathed, but it doesn't matter."

She was here for revenge, plain and simple.

Bernice had thought taking down Megan would be a piece of cake, but Michael's involvement threw a wrench in her plans.

She had more elaborate schemes in mind, but when she heard from Laura about Megan's deeds, she couldn't hold back any longer.

Megan was lost in a beautiful dream.

In it, Michael married her, and she became the much-envied Mrs. Jude, rubbing elbows with the elite at high-society events.

Cassie and Laura were nothing but ants to her.

But Megan's dream was cut short by a splash of cold water.

In this weather, the cold water made her scream. She opened her eyes to find herself in a dark, unfamiliar place, utterly confused, thinking she was still dreaming.

Then a woman in black sportswear, wearing a creepy mask, appeared, looking like a ghost in the dim light.

"Who are you? Am I dreaming? This can't be real," Megan screamed, trying to escape, only to realize her hands and feet were tied. She was on the ground, surrounded by walls with a few candles flickering, no lights at all.

Megan couldn't believe it and kept trying to wake up, refusing to accept that she had gone from a hospital bed to this strange place.

"Stop struggling. I brought you here. You're not dreaming," Bernice said, her voice disguised. Megan couldn't recognize her, and her heart sank.

"Who are you?" Megan, having been through kidnappings and dark events in Austin, quickly calmed down. "Laura? Or Cassie?"

Bernice chuckled. "Who do you think I am?"

Megan trembled. "You're Cassie, right? Don't think just because Joseph is protecting you, you can do this to me. You're breaking the law. I know you hate me, but you have no proof. If something happens to me, Michael won't let it slide."

After a pause, Megan shouted, "Joseph, are you hiding nearby? I admit I hurt you before, but that's all in the past. You've finally reconciled with Cassie, so why break up with Michael over old issues? It won't do you any good. Besides, I've already helped you regain your memory. Let the past be the past, okay? I'm begging you."

Megan's voice echoed, making the empty space even creepier.

"Stop shouting. I'm neither Laura nor Cassie," Bernice said, squatting down slowly, her mask eerie and horrifying. "Megan, do you know how much effort it took to bring you here?"

Megan kept shrinking back. She had done too many bad things, but this unknown woman sent a chill down her spine.

Megan had finally managed to push Laura and Michael to the brink of divorce, and she might even be pregnant. But she never saw this coming.

She had no clue who this woman was. She was losing it.

"Don't be scared. Nathan's been here too," Bernice said with a smile. "You'll like it here. The night is long; we have plenty of time."

Megan trembled. "Did Nathan piss you off? Then go get him. I've got nothing to do with this. I haven't talked to him in forever. Let me go, please. You want money? I'll pay you."

"Money? I don't want money. I want you to suffer."

Bernice stood up and snapped her fingers. Soon, Dashiell and a few others came down.

"Throw her into that barrel," Bernice said, lifting her chin slightly.

Before Megan could react, she was lifted and thrown into a huge barrel. The suffocating stench inside nearly drove her mad.

Megan desperately stuck her head out, her face and nostrils filled with nauseating dirty water, so disgusting that there were even maggots wriggling inside.

"How does it smell?" Bernice watched her quietly. "You like throwing people's ashes into the sewer, don't you? Now you can see how sewer water tastes."

She then personally pushed Megan's head down and pulled her up by the hair, asking softly, "How does it feel?"

"Who are you?" Megan was choking, trembling all over. "Are you here for revenge for Esmeralda? Are you Laura?"

"I told you, I'm not either of the two people you're thinking of. Have you ever considered I might be your sister?" Bernice smiled.

Nina?

Megan's mind went blank. She looked at Bernice in horror. "Impossible, it's impossible. Nina is dead."

"Did you see her body with your own eyes, Megan? Don't panic. I told you, this is just the beginning." Bernice smiled quietly.

Since the day she became Bernice, she had never smiled so freely.

Bernice admitted she might be completely twisted inside.

But Bernice didn't care anymore. From the moment she sank into the sea and came back, she was already a demon.

At this moment, Megan was truly scared.

Megan had done many bad things, but she had never been this afraid—not even in Austin, where she had faced the most terrifying experiences.

She would rather this person be Cassie or Laura. Either of those women wouldn't be as terrifying as the one before her.

It was already 3 a.m. in the hospital.

The bodyguards at the door felt that the ward was unusually quiet tonight. Usually, Megan's burned hand hurt so much at night that there would always be some noise.

Since they were arranged by EchoReach, they were extra cautious. A female bodyguard went in to check and didn't see the nurse. After searching around, she found the nurse lying on the hospital bed, and Megan was nowhere to be found.

They immediately notified Michael.

Michael was furious when he heard. "Didn't I tell you that Joseph might make a move these days? How could you not notice she was missing until now?"
