Chapter 958 Joseph Gets Beaten Down
"Even if it wasn't you, you should still take responsibility for Liam's disappearance," Mabel said, her voice filled with regret.
Mabel had been so consumed by Marcus's cheating and betrayal that she had neglected Joseph and Liam. By the time she realized it, Liam was already gone.
"Joseph, if you don't bring Liam back, I'll never forgive you," Mabel cried hysterically, then suddenly felt dizzy.
"Mabel," Wyatt quickly supported her.
Joseph jumped up, scooped Mabel into his arms, and rushed her to the hospital.
After running various blood tests, the doctor said, "She hasn't slept for days, and combined with physical exhaustion, it caused her dizziness. She needs to rest and worry less."
Joseph's face was full of bitterness. In Mabel's current state, she couldn't just take it easy.
Just as the doctor left, a few police officers walked into the room. "Joseph, Marcus reported that you kidnapped his younger son Liam, and Liam is still missing. Please come with us to the station for questioning."
Joseph's eyes darkened. He had feared Marcus would use Liam's disappearance to frame him, but he didn't expect it to happen so fast.
"Alright, let me say a few words to my mom, and I'll go with you." Joseph turned back to the bedside. After getting an IV, Mabel looked a bit better, but her face was still pale.
"Mom, I know you hate me, but you should understand that Liam is Marcus's son. Marcus is at the peak of his power right now. I was angry, but I wouldn't hurt Liam. The Chamberlain family has already called the police," Joseph said.
Mabel looked confused and shocked.
Joseph said, "Right now, a lot of companies want to take over the Hernandez group, especially the March family, backed by the Chamberlain family. Once I'm at the police station, the March family will definitely team up with other major companies to surround the Hernandez family. You need to quickly sell off some of our long-time loss-making subsidiaries like insurance, hotels, and e-commerce.
"Sell the Hernandez House too and fully invest in our finance sector. It's the only way we can keep the last bit of our assets."
"Sell what?" Mabel hadn't processed it yet.
"Mom, think about it. Twenty years ago, you were a powerful businesswoman. Don't let Marcus look down on you anymore. Besides, if it weren't for you, the Hernandez family wouldn't be in this mess.
"Now it's time for you to repay the family. You don't want Grandparents to lose their home at their age, right?" After saying this, Joseph turned and left with the police.
Mabel stood there in a daze. Upon reflection, she realized that because of Joseph's strength, she had rarely been involved in the company's affairs in recent years.
She thought to herself, 'No wonder Marcus looks down on me now; I also look down on myself.'
After ten minutes of silence, Mabel finally snapped out of it. Being abandoned by Marcus was certainly painful, but now was not the time for her to be sad.
"Nathaniel, come here," Mabel said.
"Mabel." Nathaniel's eyes lit up.
"Hurry and deal with the Hernandez group's subsidiaries. Check how much capital we can free up." Mabel's face suddenly exuded a strong authority.
Nathaniel looked relieved, thinking, 'Fortunately, Mabel woke up quickly; otherwise, the Hernandez family would really be finished.'
An hour later, the news of Joseph being taken away by the police spread throughout Madison.
[Did I see that right? Joseph was arrested for kidnapping Liam. Wasn't he supposed to have kidnapped Cassie? How much does he love kidnapping people?]
[Joseph is really arrogant. He even kidnapped his own brother.]
[I heard Joseph has a bad temper and used to bully Liam for no reason.]
[This time, it seems more serious than just venting anger. Liam has been missing for several days, and witnesses at the hotel said the last time they saw Liam, he was taken away by Joseph's men. Luckily, Liam's father, Marcus, called the police.]
[The Chamberlain family is the top family in Madison now. They should be able to put Joseph in jail for good. Don't let him out.]
The online discussions were intense, and even Cassie saw the news.
As her assistant, Jan also shared some information with her. "I heard the Hernandez group is planning to sell off their insurance, hotel, and other subsidiaries."
"The Hernandez group is having cash flow issues. Selling them off is a wise decision," Cassie asked, "Who made this decision?"
"Mabel is in control of the Hernandez House now. There aren't many people left in the Hernandez family." Jan handed over an invitation. "The day after tomorrow, Whisperlyn City will host a grand auction, mainly to auction off the Hernandez House."
Cassie was stunned and sighed, "The Hernandez family has finally fallen."
"Yes," Jan said, "Mabel decided the auction. The Hernandez House is the largest estate in Madison. It's said that the land alone is worth millions of dollars. But I've heard that the Chamberlain family is secretly planning to have all the major families in Madison drive the price down."
Cassie frowned. "The Chamberlain family is really..."
She pondered, 'They have no sense of fair play. It's hard to believe how they got to where they are today.'
"Yes, but now all the major families follow the Chamberlain family's orders," Jan said. "Do you want to go and take a look? Almost everyone who is anyone in Whisperlyn City will be there."
Cassie rubbed her temples. "Why would I go? I can't afford it."
In the detention center.
The guard threw the food and water at the door. Joseph glanced at it, only taking a cup of water to drink.
Less than half an hour after drinking, Joseph suddenly felt weak all over.
Immediately, the surrounding inmates, who had finished their meals, exchanged glances and then walked toward Joseph with sinister smiles.
"Who sent you?" Joseph, ever so sharp, realized immediately, but it was too late; his body was already powerless.
"Mr. Hernandez, you used to be so high and mighty. Now, let us serve you well." A tall, bald man grabbed a bench and smashed it directly onto Joseph's back.
Joseph couldn't get up, and he was beaten to the point of spitting blood.
As Joseph was about to pass out, he vaguely saw someone break a bowl and then use the shards to slash viciously at his leg.
Joseph's eyes widened. He clenched his fists tightly and let out a scream!
"Joseph, I heard you used to be quite the playboy. From now on, you'll be someone who can't have sex." The man laughed as he saw blood gushing from Joseph's pants.
Joseph's face was as pale as a sheet, perhaps due to the intense pain that had finally given him a bit of strength back. After kicking the person away, Joseph fell off the bed. His pupils were a stark red.
