Chapter 54  Maternal uncle's wife

'So Dakota's increased appetite is my fault, too?' she thought.

Cassie was furious. "Fine, I'll just feed it a little from now on, okay?"

"That's not okay." Joseph thought, 'What if Dakota's baby in its belly gets hungry?'

"Then what do you want? I'm sorry, but I'm not a professional cat caretaker," Cassie said irritably.

"Do you think I am? Just think about it. Spend more time on it. You can take it out to sunbathe and walk around. Don't just let it eat and sleep." Joseph finished speaking and walked inside with Dakota in his arms.

Cassie scratched at his retreating back. She had wanted to share the joy of finding a job, but now she didn't want to say a word to him.

When she got home, Cassie was about to go to her room to get clothes for a shower when a cold voice came from behind. "I'm hungry."

She turned around to see Joseph sitting on the sofa, looking like he was waiting to be fed.

Still angry, Cassie refused, "Sorry, I'm only Dakota's nanny, not yours."

Joseph's expression was lazy, his lips curling in a way that was neither warm nor cold. "Is this the love you keep professing for me?"

She thought to herself, 'I love the position of Arthur's aunt-in-law, do you understand?'

Cassie, holding back her anger, opened the fridge.

Joseph watched her through the sliding door, feeling irritated as well. He found it hard to eat anything not made by Cassie.

The next morning after breakfast.

As Joseph was fastening his cufflinks and getting ready to leave, he noticed Cassie had also changed into a cream-colored trench coat paired with a deep pink blouse, a plaid long skirt, and tights. She looked simple yet professional, with a curvy figure.

With light makeup on her face and pearl earrings dangling from her earlobes, she looked so radiant and vibrant that he couldn't take his eyes off her.

But the next second, he realized she was also heading out.

"Are you going on a date again?" His voice was low, tinged with displeasure.

"No, I'm going to work. I found a job yesterday. I'll be back to make dinner after work, and I'll take Dakota for a walk in the evening." Cassie's words left Joseph with no room for rebuttal, though he still didn't think much of her job.

"Are you handing out flyers again?"

"No, I'm a chief designer this time." Cassie stepped out the door with her bag.

Joseph followed her out. They got into the elevator together, and he glanced at her reflection in the mirror, feeling an inexplicable dryness in his throat. "Do you want me to give you a ride?"

"No, thanks," Cassie declined. "I'd rather drive myself. I don't want to end up squeezing into the subway halfway."

Joseph fell silent, thinking, 'Is she complaining that I only drop her off at the subway station?'

At 8:30 AM, Cassie stepped into her new company right on time.

To her surprise, the employees were all young, enthusiastic, highly educated, and had rich overseas study experience.

After a brief introduction, Billy took her to the office and handed her a floor plan. "This is David Foster's villa at Garden Height. It's more than 35,000 square feet. Mr. Foster used to run a branch overseas, and we met there. He's back in the country now and plans to settle in Silverwood. You need to design this well. There's no budget limit for the renovation, but it has to be done right. He has a resort project starting at the end of the year, and I hope we can establish a long-term partnership with him."

Cassie nodded seriously.

David's background was quite similar to Joseph's, but Joseph only lived in a 1,000-square-foot house.

Billy smiled and said, "Actually, Mr. Foster's nephew's girlfriend's family is also in the renovation business, but he doesn't like their style. Since they're relatives, he can't say much, so he's secretly renovating the house without telling anyone. So keep it low-key and don't make things difficult for Mr. Foster."

Cassie was stunned that David not only had a similar background to Joseph but also had a nephew's girlfriend with a similar status.

After leaving the company, Cassie drove to Garden Height.

This was the most luxurious villa area in Silverwood, affordable only to the truly wealthy.

Her car was stopped by security at the entrance, so she had to walk in.
