Chapter 1378 So Refreshing
"He even takes care of kids. How patient is that dude?"
Laura was soaking up all the attention she was getting.
Honestly, it felt pretty damn good.
And that ring on Laura's hand? Absolutely stunning.
For once, Laura didn't find Michael so repulsive and annoying.
Around noon.
They headed out for lunch.
Michael took the kid to wash up.
Lily shot Laura a knowing look, "You invited me out today just to make me jealous, didn't you?"
"No, he wasn't like this before," Laura explained. "Maybe he's trying to make it up to me because we argued yesterday."
Lily let out a deep sigh, "If that's the case, then bring on the arguments! I'd take one every day."
Laura stayed quiet.
It did seem that way.
"I used to hear you complain about Michael. But I think he's pretty great—handsome, generous, loaded, and patient with kids," Lily said wistfully.
"Your husband is gentle and considerate." Laura shot back.
"Come on, it doesn't really make a difference," Lily cut her off.
Laura was speechless.
Thinking it over, marriage isn't perfect for anyone.
Take Cassie, for example. She's super happy now, but she and Joseph went through so many ups and downs. Honestly, if it were someone less open-minded, they might not have patched things up with Joseph.
"By the way, do you remember Isla?" Lily suddenly asked.
Laura was taken aback and frowned. Of course, she remembered Isla. When Olivia made a big comeback some time ago, Isla had teamed up with her.
But later, everyone was busy dealing with Olivia. After Olivia died, Isla and Benjamin vanished from Whisperlyn City.
"She went back to Silverwood," Lily said. "But the Tarro Family isn't what it used to be. I heard they're on the brink of bankruptcy, selling off their mansion and luxury cars. The Hayes Family is in a similar boat. Their company's tanking, nothing like the Millers."
"Oh, they should be getting married soon," Laura hadn't heard about those two in ages.
After Laura asked Benjamin for help, she hadn't seen him again.
Lily scoffed, "I heard Isla's family wants the marriage, but the Hayes Family isn't on board and keeps stalling. The Hayes Family wants Benjamin to find a more suitable socialite to support them. Isla herself isn't very capable. Although she studied abroad, she only did odd jobs for Benjamin. Back then, Benjamin was doing well and pampered her. But when the Hayes Family hit rock bottom, Isla was useless. Plus, the Tarro Family is a complete burden."
"Isla is quite the schemer," Laura sneered.
Laura knew Isla all too well. When Isla was Benjamin's secretary, she often messed things up. She only managed to look competent in front of Benjamin by occasionally acting cute and having other secretaries help her.
Lily nodded, "Benjamin was a fool. If he had been with you, the Miller Family would be thriving. Now, the Hayes Family is a total joke in Silverwood."
Laura took a sip of water and was about to say something when her eyes suddenly widened. She quickly lowered her head, "Speak of the devil! We were just talking about Benjamin, and here he is."
Lily was startled and quickly glanced over. She saw Benjamin in another aisle, but there were partitions, so he didn't see them. He walked straight to a table where a young woman in her twenties, wearing a maroon pinafore dress, was sitting. She had a round face and wasn't particularly attractive.
Lily's eyes widened, "Are we catching Benjamin on a date?"
"Let's just pretend we didn't see him," Laura covered her face, regretting choosing this restaurant.
At that moment, Michael returned with Lily's son after washing his hands.
Lily's son was really naughty.
Laura glanced at Michael, "Take the plate outside and feed him."
Michael was silent.
How unfair, he was really hungry.
Lily quickly said, "No need, Michael. Just let him watch cartoons."
Lily turned on a cartoon, and her son instantly quieted down.
But Michael felt the atmosphere was strange. Both women were hunched over, eating their food.
Was the food that good?
Although it seemed decent, they didn't need to be in such a hurry.
Just as he was wondering, Michael suddenly saw Lily get excited and kick Laura under the table.
Following her gaze, Laura saw Isla.
Isla walked straight to Benjamin and started crying, "Benjamin, you're too much. We've been dating for years, and you secretly go on dates with other women. How could you do this to me?"
The restaurant buzzed with chatter.
Michael looked over and froze, "Isn't that Benjamin and his mistress?"
Lily gave a thumbs up, "Michael, you have sharp eyes. She is."
Laura was silent.
Benjamin's face darkened. His date stood up awkwardly, "Didn't your parents tell me you were single?"
"He's my boyfriend. We've been dating for years," Isla said, grabbing Benjamin. "We're getting married soon."
"Is that true?" the date asked coldly, looking at Benjamin.
Benjamin remained silent, his handsome face expressionless.
"Jerk."
The woman threw a glass of water in Benjamin's face and stormed off.
"Benjamin, let's go home," Isla said softly. "I know your parents don't like me, but I'll try to win them over."
Benjamin looked at her silently. Isla's sudden change in attitude made her a stranger to him; maybe, he never really knew her at all.
