Chapter 608

"I don't know why your previous physician would have informed you otherwise," the doctor began, his gaze filled with sympathy as he turned to Leo. "However, based on your current health indicators, if you continue to delay treatment for another year, your body will inevitably succumb to complete collapse. A simple fall or sudden shock could easily result in death." The doctor's words echoed in the sterile room, a stark reminder of the cold, complex world of Old Money that Leo inhabited. Today's encounter had only served to confirm it.

A chill coursed through Leo's veins, freezing his blood in its tracks.

"Doctor, is it possible to eliminate the toxins from my father's body?" Cassie queried, her voice steady despite the gravity of the situation.

"It's possible, ," the doctor replied, "but his health will never return to its former state. I strongly recommend immediate treatment."

"Thank you," Cassie expressed her gratitude. She gently guided a shell-shocked Leo out of the room. Noting his desolate expression, she couldn't help but say, "It seems someone close to you has been tampering with your food or drinks, either at your company or the villa. As for your previous doctor and the clean bill of health they gave you, they must have been bribed."

"Luna was with me at every check-up," Leo retorted bitterly. "I never anticipated this. I've cared for Luna for over twenty years, providing her with the best of everything. I even believed she was unaware of Atlas being her biological father until yesterday. And Vera, I gave her billions after our divorce. This mother and daughter duo is terrifying. They must be behind the poisoning."

Cassie pursed her lips, a wave of relief washing over her. She had returned just in time. Any later, and Leo might have lost his life.

"I need to contact the police," Leo declared, his voice laced with anger.

"Dad, if you alert the police, it will tip them off. The mother and daughter will undoubtedly shift the blame onto the person who poisoned you. If they were bold enough to do this, they are prepared for the truth to be revealed," Cassie reasoned, her eyes darting around the room. "In the meantime, we should secretly work on eliminating the poison and feign ignorance. Keep a close watch on the villa's housekeepers, servants, and secretary. We need to find out who administered the poison. Once we catch that person, we can draw out the mother and daughter."

Leo instantly grasped Cassie's plan, admiration for his daughter filling his heart. " Cassie, you're far more astute than me."

"Dad, you're too trusting and kind-hearted," Cassie responded, her lips curling into a cold smile. After all she had been through, Cassie had learned that showing kindness to certain people was akin to being cruel to oneself.

"You're right," Leo sighed, nodding in agreement. If he hadn't been so kind, he wouldn't have married Vera and caused such pain to Cassie's mother. The mere thought of Cassie's mother filled Leo with a profound sadness, making it difficult for him to breathe.

After parting ways with Leo, Cassie received another phone call.

"Megan has left," the voice on the other end announced.

Cassie glanced at the time. It was already half past ten. "Tsk, so late. Megan sure knows how to stir up trouble."

"Yeah," the caller chuckled. "I often wonder if Joseph satisfies her in the usual way."

Cassie was about to respond when the elevator abruptly halted on the third floor. Joseph and Nathaniel, both towering figures of masculinity, stepped in. The air around them was thick with a mature, irresistible allure.

Upon making eye contact, Joseph visibly stiffened.

Cassie cast a silent glance at the sign behind him that read "Urology," her beautiful face contorting in a peculiar manner.

"Perhaps Joseph really can't satisfy her. I have something to attend to, so I'll hang up now," she said, pressing the "end call" button.

Joseph's handsome face turned icy when he heard the word "satisfy" escape her lips. "What are you looking at? I'm here with Nathaniel for a medical appointment."

Nathaniel, who felt an inexplicable burden, fell silent.

He wanted to cry. He could bear other burdens, but could he please refuse this one?

But when he met Joseph's gaze, Nathaniel could only nod obediently. "Yes, I haven't had much time for sex lately."
