Chapter 1223 Repay You with My Body
"But we're all doing this for the Wittelsbach family," Dale started, but Declan's icy stare cut him off, making him feel like a total nobody.
Dale shivered and shot a desperate look at Olivia, who was already losing it. "Olivia, help me out here. Or, like, send someone to watch my back on the way home. I'm freaked Joseph's gonna catch me. Remember, I humiliated Cassie for you last time, and now I'm scared Joseph's gonna come after me."
Olivia still looked like she couldn't believe what was happening.
Just a few days ago at the club, she was all high and mighty, saying Cassie would pay, and Dale was strutting around in front of Michael and Cassie.
But now, Dale was so scared he didn't even want to step outside alone.
Were Joseph and Cassie really that scary?
"Everett, get someone to take him home," Isabella said, frowning.
Everett nodded and quietly arranged for someone to escort Dale out.
Declan ran his fingers through Isabella's hair. "I gotta head out for a bit. Don't stress. Get some sleep."
Isabella nodded, guessing he was off to help the Morris family with something.
After Declan left, Olivia grabbed Isabella's hand, her eyes red. "Mom, I think I should stay in tomorrow. Cassie's probably got people looking for me everywhere."
Isabella frowned at her scared look. "Olivia, you're my daughter. How can you be such a chicken?"
Olivia stiffened and stammered, "Mom, I'm scared. I've been hiding for years, and I even had to get plastic surgery."
Isabella felt a pang of guilt, thinking it was her fault. Even getting revenge was turning out to be a nightmare.
"Mom, can you really get back at them for me?" Olivia looked lost.
"Do you doubt me?" Isabella was a bit annoyed.
"No, I just don't know how to say it." Olivia lowered her head. "Are you gonna pressure the Jude family again? They're tight with Joseph; they might not listen to us. If we push too hard, Declan won't be happy."
Isabella sighed. It was a real mess.
"Mom, why don't we let someone else handle it? Cassie hasn't divorced David yet. David's a petty guy. He's probably been wanting to get rid of Cassie and Joseph for a while." Olivia suddenly clapped her hands and grinned. "If we just give David a little nudge, we won't even have to lift a finger. He'll take care of Cassie for us."
Isabella's eyes lit up. "That's a solid plan. I'll leave it to you. If you need help, just let Declan and Everett know."
"Thanks, Mom." Olivia nodded happily, but when she turned around, her eyes were full of malice.
The Hernandez House.
At the long dining table, Cassie had been eating for a while when she realized no one else had touched their forks. Everyone was staring at her.
The scene was super awkward.
"Why are you all staring at me? Aren't you eating?" Cassie asked.
Walter said approvingly, "Cassie, you're the hero of the Hernandez family. We got out of this mess thanks to you."
Mildred shot Walter a look. "I think you owe her an apology. We used to think she wasn't good enough for Joseph. We were wrong."
"Yeah, I was wrong," Walter, usually so proud, kept apologizing.
Isaac raised his glass. "Cassie, thank you."
Mabel grinned and said, "Joseph's one lucky dude to have you."
Even Celeste, who usually butted heads with Cassie, reluctantly chimed in, "Sorry for all the times I was a jerk to you."
Cassie was floored. She and Celeste never got along, so this apology was a shocker.
But hey, if Celeste was extending an olive branch, no point in holding onto old beef.
She raised her glass. "The past is the past."
"Yeah, from now on, we're family," Joseph said with a smile, pulling her close.
Cassie's face went red, and she nudged him with her elbow. She still hadn't divorced yet.
Sensing her worry, Walter got serious. "Joseph, you gotta get her divorced from David ASAP. We can't keep dragging this out."
"We were on it, but then the Hernandez Group hit some snags, so it got pushed back," Joseph explained.
"It needs to be done quickly," Isaac suddenly said, "The Wit Group just signed a huge deal overseas, and their stock's skyrocketing. They're about to hit a $500 billion market value. If it weren't for the Nelson family holding them back, they'd probably be the biggest pharmaceutical group in the country by now."
"Seriously?" Celeste was shocked. "Wasn't the Wit Group always under the Hernandez Group's thumb? Can David really make a comeback?"
"David's no pushover," Isaac said with a frown.
"Thanks for the heads-up," Joseph nodded. He'd been in a good mood, but now he felt a bit weighed down.
After dinner, Sophia and Oliver were handed over to Mabel, and Joseph pulled Cassie into the car.
"Where are we going? I still need to tell Sophia and Oliver a story," Cassie grumbled as she settled into the passenger seat.
"To the movies. We've been swamped lately, and I haven't spent much time with you," Joseph said, buckling her seatbelt.
Cassie didn't say anything.
Yeah, they'd been under a ton of pressure lately. Now that the department had stopped breathing down the Hernandez Group's neck, they could finally chill a bit.
She hadn't expected Joseph to be such a badass, even taking down the Morris family.
She looked at Joseph, who was driving beside her, feeling like she didn't know him as well as she thought.
"I know I'm good-looking, but you don't have to stare," Joseph teased, squeezing her hand.
"How do you have so much dirt on the Morris family?" she asked.
"Do you think the Hernandez family spends all that cash on Dragon for nothing?" Joseph joked, "I didn't plan to use it at first. I'm a businessman, and doing my job well is usually enough. But this time, they crossed the line."
"Then why didn't you use it earlier?" Cassie pouted. "You had me worried sick for so long."
"The Hernandez Group was always getting bad press. Your words changed how people saw us and made them think we were being unfairly targeted, which made folks mad at the Morris family. When I teamed up with the Jude family to expose the Morris family's dirt, we could totally take them down." Joseph tightened his grip on Cassie's hand. "You saved the Hernandez Group and me. Cassie, guess this time, I can only repay you with my body."
