Chapter 1352 Begging for Forgiveness

"Did I say I wanted a new relationship?" Laura shot back, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "No, Michael, it was you who jumped to conclusions the second you walked in, thinking I was out with some other guy. I was just buying clothes I liked, and I didn't even use your money. What gives you the right to hand my clothes over to another woman? I'm so done with you. I can't stand you!"

Every word she spat out felt like a punch to Michael's gut.

Back in the day, Michael would've blown up right then and there.

But now, seeing her all frail after just having a baby, he kept his mouth shut.

James glanced between Michael and Laura, looking all kinds of stressed. "Laura, you just had a baby. Can we chill and talk about this later? I think the baby might be hungry."

"Yeah, the baby’s probably starving," Caroline quickly called in the lactation consultant and shooed everyone out, leaving just Cassie and Bernice inside.

"You really sure you wanna go through with the divorce?" Cassie asked, her eyes full of worry. "Don't do anything rash. Plus, if you split, the Jude family’s definitely gonna fight for custody."

Laura turned to look at her sweet, tiny baby, feeling a sharp pang in her chest.

Before the baby, she didn’t feel this way. But now, after giving birth, she realized this was a life she couldn’t just walk away from.

The thought of not seeing her baby in the future made her heart ache.

"But I can't stand Michael anymore," Laura said, tears streaming down her face. "He's such a jerk. If it wasn’t for him stressing me out, I wouldn’t have had a premature birth today. I don’t care anymore. Once my parents get here, I’m getting a divorce."

Outside the hospital room, Michael looked like he’d been hit by a truck.

He never thought Laura would want a divorce right after giving birth.

"What do you think?" James asked him.

Caroline jumped in, "They can’t get a divorce. Think about the poor kid."

"What if Laura insists on it?" James snapped. "Some of what she said is true. Everyone knows why you two got married in the first place. There’s no love between you."

Silence fell over the room.

Michael started to panic. "What are you saying? You can’t seriously be on board with the divorce, right?"

Even Violet couldn’t hold back. "If you don’t want a divorce, then make Laura change her mind. We can’t force you to stay married."

"When Laura’s parents get here, I won’t even know how to explain that you caused her premature birth," Caroline said, clearly irritated. "Laura buys a couple of clothes, and you lose it. If I were Laura, I’d be fed up with you too. Not only do you refuse to spend money on her, but you also say hurtful things. I’m embarrassed to call you my son; it’s disgraceful."

Michael stayed quiet, thinking, 'Am I really that bad? I only act this way because I think Laura’s dressing up for other guys. And it’s not like I’m stingy; she just doesn’t want my money. How did it come to this?'

Michael felt totally wronged.

About half an hour later, the door to the hospital room opened again.

Cassie and Bernice walked out together.

Michael looked at them, feeling awkward. "How is she?"

"She's breastfeeding," Cassie said, then turned to Bernice. "You can head home. I'll stay with Laura tonight."

Bernice nodded and left, giving a quick nod to the Jude family members.

Lucas, who had been leaning against the wall, shot a cold look and followed her with his long strides.

Michael tried to smile at Cassie. "You don't have to stay. I'll stay up tonight as her husband."

Cassie crossed her arms and looked at him. "Michael, I'd love to give you this chance, but Laura just had a baby. Seeing you makes her mad, and you're not exactly Mr. Sensitivity. I'm worried you'll upset her. Normally, it wouldn't matter, but today you might make her faint from anger."

"I'm not that clueless," Michael said, feeling humiliated. "I know she had a tough time giving birth."

"What’s your plan?" Cassie frowned. "You know, after the divorce, you can still co-parent the kid."

Michael opened his mouth, his eyes flashing with complexity. "I never thought about divorce after marrying her. Besides, now that the baby's here, we should take care of the kid together."

"Then you need to apologize," Cassie said.

Michael was stunned. "I just apologized, but she wouldn't listen."

Cassie glared at him. "Now I get why even Megan didn't want to date you."

Michael's face darkened. "Megan didn't date me not because I wasn't good enough, but because Joseph was too good and overshadowed me."

"Come on, Joseph is just average," Cassie said dismissively. "Your emotional intelligence is too low. Who says a woman has to forgive a man just because he apologizes?"

Michael stayed silent.

"If you really want her to forgive you and save this marriage," Cassie said, "you need to kneel and apologize. Also, you threw away her clothes, so buy her ten times as many beautiful clothes. Give her your bank card, and let her buy whatever she wants. You should also be responsible for fetching water, doing laundry, cooking, and staying up with her while she breastfeeds. If the baby cries at night, she sleeps while you take care of the baby."

Michael's eyes widened in shock. "Are you joking? The only person I've ever knelt to is my grandfather, and you want me to do it for a woman?"

"This woman just had a premature birth because of you, and all you want to do is apologize?" Cassie sneered. "If that's your way of apologizing, then I will also advise Laura to divorce you because you're not sincere."

Michael was speechless.

"This is just my suggestion. Whether you do it or not is up to you. No one is forcing you," Cassie said, turning back to the hospital room.

"Wait," Michael said irritably. "If I do all this, will she forgive me?"

"I only know that if you do nothing, you have no chance at all," Cassie said, walking back into the room.

Michael stood at the door, utterly frustrated and near tears. He wanted to discuss it with Lucas, but couldn't find him.

Lucas was on the first floor.

Bernice, wearing a mask, walked to the entrance. There were few people on the first floor at night.

As she reached the door, Lucas appeared beside her, his tall frame towering over Bernice.
