Chapter 513
A laugh of triumph escaped Olivia's lips. "Joseph, Cassie, consider the damage you've inflicted upon me. You are destined for eternal torment," she declared with a sense of pride.
The man seated beside her in the passenger seat responded with a calm demeanor, "You've executed your role impeccably. Joyce is no more, Nina is behind bars, and a rift has formed between Joseph, Cassie, and the Jude family. Everything has unfolded even more seamlessly than I anticipated."
Olivia's hand drifted to her face, a shadow of concern passing over her features. "But my face..."
"Go abroad for now. You'll have a role to play in due course," the man commanded, snapping his fingers to signal the driver to set the car in motion.
As Joseph neared the entrance, he paused, casting a glance over his shoulder at the retreating black vehicle.
"Is something amiss?" inquired Lucas.
Joseph's brow furrowed, "I had this uncanny feeling of being watched from the shadows."
Lucas shrugged, "It's not unusual for a man of your stature to be under surveillance."
"Let's proceed," Joseph decided, turning back around. As he stepped into the funeral home, he collided with Michael. Michael shot Joseph a frosty glare before turning away.
While Joseph quietly moved to offer his prayers, Lucas stepped up to exchange formalities.
Joyce's mother spoke up curtly, "Joseph, get on with your prayers. Your presence isn't welcome here."
Tony's face darkened with anger, but he held his tongue as a familiar figure entered through the door. His eyes widened in shock as he stuttered, "...Megan... Megan has returned..."
"Stop spouting nonsense. Megan is no longer with us," Joyce's mother retorted, only to look up and gasp in surprise, collapsing to the floor.
Michael, Lucas, and Joseph all swiveled around in astonishment, their gazes fixed on the entrance.
A young woman stepped in, clad in a form-fitting black dress. Her hair was neatly coiffed, and her striking face was adorned with a tiny mole beneath her large eyes. The soft white light cast a glow on her fair skin, making her appear as radiant as ever.
Michael and Lucas stared in disbelief, while Joseph stood frozen, watching the familiar figure of Megan slowly approach.
"...Megan, are you...are you still among the living?" Michael's voice wavered, his eyes welling up.
Megan offered him a faint smile, "Michael, I've returned."
Lucas could barely contain his excitement, "Megan, we all thought you were gone; how..."
"I'm sorry, I deceived you all. But I had a reason that prevented me from returning," Megan admitted, her voice laced with regret and helplessness.
"What reason could possibly justify your return?" Michael blurted out, "Do you realize we all believed you were gone? This news was devastating for all of us, especially Joseph, who was nearly driven to the edge..."
Joseph remained silent.
Megan's gaze shifted to Joseph, her eyes welling up, "I'm sorry. I had my reasons for not returning."
"What reasons could be so grave that you had to disappear and feign death for all these years?" Michael's voice was tinged with frustration.
Megan pursed her lips, remaining silent, her face etched with pain.
"Michael, Megan must have had her reasons," Lucas interjected.
