Chapter 566

In the quiet aftermath of the phone call, Cassie found herself ensnared in a sleepless night. As dawn broke, she reached for her phone, only to be met with a barrage of scandalous headlines. The internet was ablaze with news of Joseph's alleged affair, his extravagant five-billion-dollar gift to his new lover, their intimate night at a hotel, and the unveiling of his lover's identity.

Cassie's fingers moved almost involuntarily, clicking on a few photos. Images flooded her screen, each one a snapshot of Joseph and Megan's public displays of affection. Hand-in-hand as they entered a club, locked in an embrace as they disappeared into a hotel, under the glow of celebratory fireworks. The affection between them was palpable, their smiles painting a picture of a sweet, infatuated couple.

Even Megan's Facebook page was under scrutiny. A post from the previous night showed a three-tiered cake adorned with princess and prince figurines. The caption read, "Never thought that one day you would still be celebrating my birthday with me. Love you, my love began with you and ends with you."

The online community was in an uproar.

"Joseph, the supposed love guru, cheating? What a scumbag."

"I used to envy Joseph and his wife's fairytale romance."

"Poor Cassie, Joseph's wife."

"That woman looks like a mistress; she has no shame."

"May you and your family be cursed for seducing another woman's husband. Slut!"

Cassie turned off her phone, her movements robotic as she rose from bed to brush her teeth. She thought she had exhausted her tears, but the sight of Joseph's toothbrush on the sink brought a fresh wave of sorrow, and she wept.

At half-past eight, as Cassie emerged from her room, she noticed the sympathetic glances from the passing servants. The news had spread.

As she neared the dining room, Yvonne's voice echoed from within. "I thought Joseph loved Cassie. Now he's showering another woman with planes and fireworks. He doesn't care about Cassie at all."

Isaac chimed in, " Cassie lost her attractiveness after her face got disfigured."

Yvonne agreed, "If I were a man, I might cheat too."

Grandma sighed, "The real victims here are the unborn children."

Yvonne added, "Joseph wants children more than a wife. As a mother, I wouldn't want to leave my children to the Hernandez family."

Walter's deep voice cut through the conversation, "The Hernandez children must stay with the Hernandez family. No one should take them away."

Stunned, Cassie retreated, turning on her heel and leaving the room.

At the Hernandez Group office, Joseph stared at the negative news on his computer, his handsome face etched with concern. "Have you found out who spread this?" he asked.

Nathaniel confessed, "It was the media secretly backed by Chamberlain's family."

Joseph's eyes narrowed, cold and dangerous. "So, the Chamberlains are openly opposing me now."

Nathaniel hesitated before suggesting, "Joseph, perhaps you should clarify that you and Megan are just friends. This scandal is damaging the Hernandez reputation."

Before Joseph could respond, a call from Nathan interrupted them. "Joseph, something terrible has happened. Megan was attacked this morning."

Half an hour later, Joseph arrived at the hospital. Nathan was waiting outside Megan's room. "Joseph, you're finally here. Megan's still unconscious. The doctor said she suffered a concussion."

Joseph's face hardened as he pushed open the door to Megan's room. Her forehead was bandaged, her usually vibrant face pale and drawn.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Joseph asked, his hand reaching out to touch her wound.

Megan winced, managing a weak smile. "It's nothing, just a small injury."

Nathan interjected, "It's not just a small injury. She bled a lot. Joseph, it's not fair to Megan. Those pictures from her birthday celebration, I don't know who spread them, but now people are criticizing her online. They're calling her a home-wrecker, using offensive language. Some even found out where she lives. It's not safe."
