Chapter 475

Felix, his fingers entwined with Luna's, teased her with a playful smirk. "So, you're still fascinated by Joseph?" He raised an eyebrow, a hint of mischief in his eyes. "You haven't quite moved on, have you?"

Luna, her smile demure, shook her head gently. "Not at all. My heart beats only for you, Felix," she assured him. "I'm merely curious, nothing more."

Felix responded with a low, thoughtful hum, acknowledging her words.

Meanwhile, Joseph's health had taken a severe turn for the worse. He had been rushed to the hospital in an emergency, his condition deteriorating rapidly. He was indeed a force to be reckoned with.

After Cassie's departure, a mysterious call was made from a black sedan parked discreetly on the street. The call was directed to Joseph.

"Rosalind encountered Felix and Luna," the voice on the other end relayed. "They ousted her from her spot."

Joseph, standing by a large window, plucked a leaf from the windowsill. His voice was cold, determined. "Those two need to be taught a lesson. Send them a 'gift' they won't forget. And that diner... shut it down."

In a bustling diner, Felix and Luna were halfway through their breakfast when a group of health inspectors stormed in. They slammed a closure notice on the door, announcing, "We've received reports of food poisoning linked to your breakfasts. We're shutting this place down for an investigation. Everyone not involved, please leave immediately."

The inspectors began herding people out, their voices stern. "Let's move it, folks."

Luna, her breakfast half-eaten, stood up indignantly. "You can't do this to me! Do you even know who I am?"

"I'm not interested in who you are," one inspector retorted, "but I do know you're obstructing my job."

They were swiftly escorted out, their belongings tossed after them without a care.

Luna, fuming, let out a frustrated cry. "I'm going to file a complaint about this!"

Felix, ever the picture of calm, reassured her. "Easy there, Luna. I know people at the top. One call, and I could have these guys' badges."

Luna looked at him, her eyes wide with admiration. "Felix, you're amazing."

Felix was about to make that call when his secretary's call interrupted. "Mr. Chamberlain, we have a serious problem. The legal department from Hernandez Enterprises just showed up at the office. They claim that over the last two decades, during our collaborative projects, the Chamberlain family has pocketed eight hundred billion in profits that should have been Hernandez's. They're demanding payback."

Felix's face drained of color. "Has Joseph lost his mind?"

"They've got ledgers, black on white, numbers all tallied up," his secretary replied, her voice uneasy. "Our legal team doesn't have a leg to stand on."

Felix cursed under his breath, his fury simmering.

He connected the dots then—this morning's disruption at the diner and now the company's financial crises. None of this was a coincidence—this had Joseph written all over it.

Joseph was nearly out of his mind with scheming, and yet, his claims were based on facts. During Mabel's years in charge, she had lavishly supported the Chamberlain family, even established various exclusive deals, all while leaving Hernandez Enterprises largely out of the picture. It was like blindly letting the Chamberlains mint money, only for Joseph to tighten the reins when he took over recently.

Eight hundred billion was a reachable figure for the Chamberlains, but coughing up such a sum at once would jeopardize a major project slated to revolutionize their future. That money was not something they could afford to part with.

Upon arriving at the office, Cassie was approached by Charles, who seemed tense and uneasy. As he handed her documents to sign, he broached a delicate subject. "I've heard some rumors... that you and Mr. Hernandez are separated and might be heading for a divorce?"

Cassie's grip on the pen tightened momentarily. She looked up, her expression serene. "Is that what they're saying out there now?"

Charles nodded. "Yeah, some companies that had verbally agreed to deals with us have pulled out. They're not even taking calls from our department anymore."

Cassie replied without a hint of anger. "It's fine. As long as we focus on developing that coastal real estate project, we'll make a killing. It's actually a good thing. We've had too many people getting ahead of themselves lately. A reality check will do us all some good."

Charles nodded. "Understood."
