Chapter 941 The Most Difficult Time in His Life

At first, he thought he was injured somewhere.

But when he saw no wounds on his leg, his heart tightened even more. If it wasn't his, then it must be Cassie's. He gently lifted the blanket, only to find that the back of her pants was stained.

Even though he had never had a period, he knew that she must be menstruating.

But hadn't she had her period twenty days ago? Why was it happening again?

In an instant, Joseph seemed to realize something.

If she hadn't had her period last time, then according to his calculations, she should have been in her fertile period.

Could it be that she hadn't had her period at all?

But where did the blood come from?

Joseph suddenly remembered the deep wound she had from falling on the rocks by the sea last time.

In a moment, Joseph understood everything. It turned out she had been deceiving him all along.

When Cassie woke up, she quickly noticed something unusual about her body. She had her period, and according to the dates, it was indeed time for it.

She could feel that her pants were stained and hoped Joseph wouldn't notice.

But this couldn't be hidden for long. How should she explain to Joseph that her period came early due to stress?

'Forget it,' she thought; she needed to take a shower first.

She sat up and suddenly saw a tall figure sitting on the sofa in the room. His long, elegant legs were crossed, and he held a cigarette in his hand, the smoke blurring his handsome features.

She felt a sense of panic, a bad premonition.

Cassie looked at him, and Joseph extinguished the cigarette in his hand. His clear, piercing eyes were like frozen shards of ice. "You cut your leg to pretend you had your period, and then to cover up the wound, fell on the rocks. You really went to great lengths."

Cassie lowered her thick, wing-like eyelashes. Since he had guessed everything, there was no need for her to explain.

"Cassie, do you think you can deceive me just because of my favor and affection?" Joseph stood up, his cold figure walking to the bedside. "Do you believe that from now on, even if you have your period, I won't hesitate to sleep with you?"

Cassie's body trembled, and after a moment, she let out a cold laugh and shouted, "Not touching me during my period is considered favor and affection? Don't make me laugh. Ninety-nine percent of men wouldn't touch a woman during this time, either because they find it dirty or because they don't want to harm the woman's body. Joseph, don't put something that any man would do on a pedestal as if it's something great. I really don't understand what you mean by favor and affection. What you're doing now is treating me like a pet. I have no freedom at all. You want me to get pregnant, so you trap me here to get me pregnant. You want to sleep with me, so you sleep with me despite my unwillingness. I can't resist at all."

As she spoke, her whole body began to tremble with anger.

Maybe it was the emotional instability of her period, or perhaps it was the long-suppressed feelings.

She cried and screamed at him hysterically, "Your kind of love is terrifying. I'd rather never have your love. Why didn't you love Megan this way, but you have to love me like this? Do you know that living like this is worse than death? I often think about jumping into the sea and ending it all."

If it weren't for Oliver and Sophia, she might have jumped long ago. She felt sorry for those two children. Their father was a scumbag, and losing their mother would be too pitiful.

"Don't you dare," Joseph warned with a grim, sinister tone, his eyes flashing with immense coldness, confusion, and helplessness.

Cassie's words were like knives. These days, Cassie's compliance and her silence made him think she had gotten used to it, that she had surrendered. Only today did he realize it was all his wishful thinking.

The thought of her leaving this world gripped Joseph's mind with panic, making him speak recklessly.

"Cassie, if you dare to think of ending your life, I'll make sure all your family and friends accompany you in death," he stated.

"You madman, you devil," Cassie cursed venomously. "I curse you to be abandoned by everyone one day, to have no one by your side, for everyone to despise and reject you, for your company to go bankrupt, and for you to be left with nothing."

"Curse all you want. No matter how vicious your words, I won't let go," Joseph warned, suppressing the sadness in his heart. "Since you didn't conceive this time, then next time. If one month isn't enough, then two months until you get pregnant. I have all the time in the world."

With that, he strode out.

As he left, he heard the sound of things being smashed inside and Cassie's cries.

His heart was filled with bitterness, and even his eyes couldn't help but grow warm. He was cursed by the woman he loved.

He had thought about letting go, but seeing Cassie with David, he would rather drag her to hell with him for the rest of his life.

In the study, Joseph sat at the desk, downing glass after glass of red wine. He used to dislike drinking and smoking, but now only these could numb him.

He answered his phone until it rang, and Nathaniel's anxious voice came through. "Mr. Hernandez, something terrible has happened. The Lundrigans Group released its latest chip today, and its data is identical to our Purple Chip. Worse yet, all the data from our Hernandez family lab has been lost."

"What did you say?" Joseph stood up abruptly, crushing the wine glass in his hand. He roared, "Didn't I order Dragon's men to guard the lab? How did the data get lost? Useless bunch."

"We don't know yet; it's under investigation," Nathaniel murmured. "But the lab has been strictly monitored these days, with only a few high-level executives from the Hernandez group having access. Mr. Hernandez, after the Lundrigans Group's chip release this morning, our company's stock plummeted, losing twenty billion dollars. I estimate it will drop further tomorrow. Things are looking grim. The company is in chaos; you must return immediately."

"Alright, I'll be back right away," he then replied.

Joseph hung up the phone and quickly walked to the main bedroom.

Cassie was taking a shower inside when the bathroom door suddenly opened.

Seeing Joseph standing at the door, Cassie almost screamed, "What are you doing? I'm taking a shower. Get out."

Although they had been intimate countless times, she still couldn't accept being watched like this while bathing.

Joseph stared at her blankly. Previously, he had thought that with the chip, he could lead the Hernandez family to the pinnacle of the world, ensuring no one could take her away from him.

But now, the Hernandez family was facing an unprecedented crisis. And it came so unexpectedly.

He had a gut feeling that this might be the most difficult time in his life, and he didn't know if he could still keep her.

"Cassie!" he strode into the shower and called out, forcefully kissing her water-streaked lips.

Water cascaded over them, and Cassie could barely open her eyes, but she still angrily pushed him away. "Joseph, enough is enough. I'm on my period, and you still won't leave me alone."
