Chapter 1102 One Disaster After Another

David grinned, "Just wait, I'll make your life a living hell."

"Fine, we'll see," Cassie snapped, storming off with a trembling arm.

She knew David was shameless, but this was a new low.

Cassie thought, 'Why is he so shameless?'

Audrey frowned, "I've handled many divorces, but David is the worst—selfish and twisted."

Cassie worried, "Ms. Edwards, David's dangerous. He threatened you. If you don't want this case, it's okay."

"Ms. Brooks, I've seen his type before," Audrey cut in. "I became a divorce lawyer to help women facing unfair treatment. If I back down now, I don't deserve to be a lawyer."

Cassie admired her, "Thank you. I'll arrange protection for you. If you want to drop the case, just say so."

"Alright," Audrey replied.

After parting with Audrey, Cassie told Peter, "Keep an eye on Ms. Edwards."

Peter nodded, uneasy. "Ms. Brooks, what's David up to? He's already notorious, yet so arrogant."

"He must have the Chamberlain family backing him," Spencer sighed. "If only someone could take them down."

Cassie stayed silent.

David wasn't stupid. With the Wit Group struggling, he still dared to threaten her. Cassie felt he was plotting something big.

Back at the office, Joseph called, "Audrey told me David said some nasty things. Are you okay?"

"No," Cassie replied vaguely.

"Don't lie. Audrey said you were shaking with anger," Joseph's tone softened. "Don't take David's words seriously. No matter the problem, I've got your back. I'll also arrange protection for Audrey."

Cassie smiled bitterly, "You're already in a tough spot. Can you protect yourself?"

"You don't trust me?" Joseph sounded hurt. "Do you think I'm that incompetent?"

Cassie stayed silent.

The Hernandez Group, once top in Madison, had fallen. She didn't want to hurt Joseph's confidence.

Joseph sounded gloomy, "What's up?"

"I think the Hernandez family has a traitor, but as the leader, you bear responsibility," Cassie said calmly. "You never suspected Athena, even though she was untrustworthy."

"I know I was blind," Joseph sighed. "When do you get off work? I want you to meet someone."

"Who are we meeting?"

"It's a secret."

"Alright," Cassie hesitated but agreed.

Meanwhile, Joseph hung up and headed into the hospital.

He went straight to the urologist Lucas recommended.

After a series of tests, he walked out looking grim.

Lucas saw him. "How'd it go?"

Joseph glared. "The urologist sucks."

"He's the best in Madison," Lucas said sympathetically. "It takes time."

Joseph grumbled, "I wasn't in a rush before, but now I am."

He remembered Cassie's words about not arousing her desire if he couldn't satisfy her.

Now, when he kissed Cassie, he was always careful to hold back.

Lucas gave him a knowing look. "You two made up?"

"Yeah," Joseph replied quietly.

Lucas glanced at his legs. "That's not easy. True love, huh? Even in your condition, Cassie accepts you."

"Are you admiring me or mocking me?" Joseph said through gritted teeth.

"Both," Lucas chuckled.

Joseph sneered.

"Alright, don't say I never do anything for you." Lucas looked around and slipped something into Joseph's pocket.

Joseph reached in and his face darkened. "Lucas, are you looking for trouble?"

"No need to thank me," Lucas winked. "Sometimes women are like men. If you can't satisfy her, she might change her mind."

"Don't compare her to the women you know," Joseph said stiffly.

"Fine, the gift is yours. Use it or don't," Lucas shrugged. "Let's go see Michael. He's been pitiful; no one's visited him in days."

Despite their past fights, Joseph still considered Michael a friend.

When they reached Michael's room, they found him struggling to reach a bedpan under his bed, with no one to help.

"Where's the nurse?" Lucas went over to help.

"She went out to take a call. Besides, she's old, and I don't want her to help," Michael said, then saw Joseph. "What are you doing here?"

"Here to see you make a fool of yourself," Joseph said sharply. "Where's Megan? Why isn't she taking care of you? She's so kind and sweet, and she wouldn't leave you alone."

Michael's face turned pale. "Joseph, enough. Are you here to laugh at me?"

"Yes," Joseph nodded.

Michael was helpless. "Get out. We're no longer friends."

Joseph said calmly, "We stopped being friends because of Megan."

Hearing that, Michael felt even worse.

Because of Megan, Michael lost his family, his child, and his friends.

Michael felt that Joseph came just to mock him.
