Chapter 1149 Getting Married

Laura was surprised. She'd actually thought about these questions before.

"Keep it," Laura finally said, then sat down at the vanity to write something.

Michael didn't know what she was writing, but since she told him to kneel, he figured she agreed.

He thought, 'As long as Laura agrees, it's no big deal.'

Michael knelt, watching Laura.

Even though she was four months pregnant, her loose clothes hid it well. Michael's eyes drifted to her chest.

He remembered last night and thought, 'Maybe getting married isn't so bad.'

After half an hour, Laura came over with a piece of paper. "You can get up now."

Michael stood up, knees aching, and Laura handed him the paper. "Read this. If you agree, we can get married."

Michael opened it and saw:

1. After marriage, the husband can't sleep with the wife; they'll be a couple in name only.

2. If the husband cheats, the wife won't take his property, but the child stays with the wife.

3. After divorce, the husband must pay child support.

4. The marriage lasts three years. After that, if the wife wants a divorce, the husband must agree.

5. The husband can't cheat within three years. If he wants to, he must divorce first, and the wife will agree.

6. The husband can't date or meet Megan. If the wife finds out, they must divorce immediately, even if it's before three years.

7. The husband must spend one hour with the child daily, except when on business trips.

8. The husband must cook after marriage.

9. The husband must respect the wife's parents after marriage.

Michael thought, 'What is this?'

He frowned. "This is unfair. Why am I always the one cheating? What if you cheat?"

"I won't cheat. I'm not like you," Laura interrupted. "We women think with our hearts and brains, while you men think with your lower parts. It's different."

"Enough," Michael said angrily. "And why do I have to agree if you want a divorce? This marriage is all on your terms."

"Exactly," Laura nodded. "These conditions are because we have no emotional foundation, and who knows if you'll fall for someone else later. After three years, when Carl is stable in the presidency, we can divorce if needed."

"But the child will be just over two years old then. Divorce is bad for the child," Michael argued.

Laura was silent.

Michael quickly added, "Exactly. We don't love each other now, but that doesn't mean we won't in the future. We'll be together every day. What if I fall in love with you?"

Laura looked at him, surprised, her bright eyes making Michael blush. He muttered, "I mean, if. I'm handsome, and you're beautiful. After marriage, I'll be a good husband and father. It's possible. We shouldn't start with a negative view. Let's try for the child's sake, and if it doesn't work, we can give up later."

"Alright," Laura hesitated and nodded. "Divorce will be based on whether we can develop feelings."

"Okay," Michael was thrilled, clenched his fist, and coughed. "Since it's for the child's sake, maybe we should have some physical relationship. Many couples develop feelings through intimacy."

"Dream on," Laura blushed and interrupted him, "Michael, you pervert."

"I'm just being honest," Michael mumbled.

"No," Laura turned away. "I have no feelings for you, so I can't do it with you."

"Alright," Michael felt regretful.

He thought, 'Oh man, this sucks. But I should help the Jude family through this tough time first.'

"I'll go downstairs and tell Mom and Dad. After lunch, we'll handle the paperwork," Michael said softly.

"Okay," Laura nodded. Since they were getting married anyway, she just hadn't had time to call Rose and Luke.

"Give me your hand, and I'll put the ring on you," Michael took out the ring.

"No need."

"Who gets married without a ring?" Michael grabbed her hand and slipped the ring onto her finger. It fit perfectly.

Laura looked down at the ring. It was beautiful. She actually liked it. No woman dislikes rings. "Let me ask you, is Megan's ring bigger or mine?"

"Why do you always compare with Megan?" Michael was frustrated. "Can you mention her less in the future? It disgusts me."

"Answer my question," Laura put her hands on her hips.

"Yours is bigger. It's 9 carats," Michael secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Luckily, Caroline had reminded him to buy the biggest one.

"Alright, you can go now." Laura finally smiled and waved her hand.

Michael twitched his mouth but quickly went downstairs to tell Caroline and James the good news.

In the afternoon, they registered their marriage.

Everyone in the Jude family was very happy. James even gave Laura a villa. "This will be your and Michael's marital home. It's not far from the family home."

Laura felt the property deed in her hand. The area was home to many influential people, making it the most secure and expensive part of Whisperlyn City. This villa alone was worth at least a billion dollars.

"Since James gave you a house, I didn't know what to give, so here's this," Caroline said with a smile, handing over a bank card.

At 4 PM, James took them to the Jude Group for a press conference.

Because this matter involved the future presidential election, most of the reporters in Madison were present.
