Chapter 343

In the office, Cassie glanced at the clock – six o'clock.

It was time to start heading home.

Then, a WhatsApp notification from Joseph popped up: "I won't be home tonight. Rest early."

No rush to head back now.

She reached for the project proposal again but needed help to focus on a single word.

He must be off with Luna tonight or maybe back at the Hernandez family estate to discuss marriage plans.
He was on the brink of marriage, and if he continued entangling with her after the vows, Cassie would never forgive herself.

She needed to get stronger quickly to break free from him.

The Hernandez family estate

Joseph stepped out of the car just as Luna walked by, arm in arm with Mildred, strolling through the garden.

Frowning, he instinctively thought about turning around and leaving, but Mildred spotted him. "Joseph, you're just on time. Luna and I were about to pick some strawberries from the orchard. Join us," she called.

"Grandma, I'm tired. I was hoping to head back to my room..."

"Too tired to keep me company? Am I such a bore to you?" Mildred's face soured instantly.

Left with no choice, Joseph followed them to the orchard.

Grandma intentionally lagged a few steps behind, letting the two of them walk ahead. Luna chattered nonstop to Joseph, who responded with hardly a word for every ten of hers.

Once in the strawberry patch, Luna popped one into her mouth; her eyes lit up. "Joseph, the strawberries are so sweet!"

"Have you never had strawberries before or what? Why are you so excited?" Joseph retorted with a touch of sarcasm.

"What did you just say?" Mildred exclaimed, hitting him with her cane.

"Grandma, don't hit him," Luna interposed, blushing as she looked up at Joseph. "You'll have to excuse me, Joseph. Strawberries are just so cute; pretty much all girls like them."

Something stirred in Joseph at her words. Cassie would like them as well. She had been avoiding him lately; taking some strawberries back would surely cheer her up.

Thus, he began picking the most prominent and reddest berries earnestly.

"Look at this one, Joseph. It's so large, and two together look like conjoined lotuses," Luna said, holding up an incredibly unique strawberry and beaming with joy.

Mildred, just a little bit off, captured the moment on camera. Hmm, not a bad shot; the photo suggested a sort of unspoken romance.

Unaware of her thoughts, Joseph took the strawberry from Luna's hand and added it to his basket, planning to show it to Cassie later.

Luna stood silent. What did he mean by taking her strawberries without a word? Did it mean he liked them?

It was rare for Joseph to accept something from her, and her heart warmed at the thought.

After picking the strawberries, Mildred instructed the chef, "Take the strawberries Joseph has for a strawberry mousse cake."

"I have another use for these strawberries," Joseph said, carrying his basket upstairs.

Luna's expression shifted slightly. She couldn't help but think that a man collecting so many strawberries must be gifting them. As to whom he'd gift them to...
