Chapter 1148 The Humble Mr. Jude

"Are you trying to comfort me?" Laura gave a bitter smile.

"Look on the bright side," Cassie laughed. "Michael's good-looking and has a nice body."

"Yeah, even his underwear is pink," Laura mocked.

"You even noticed his underwear color," Cassie teased.

"I saw it by accident, okay? Don't get the wrong idea," Laura quickly explained.

"Got it," Cassie said knowingly.

Laura blushed. "We did have sex, but I didn't really pay attention before."

"So, you've been paying attention recently?"

"Cassie," Laura gritted her teeth.

"Alright, just kidding," Cassie laughed. "Laura, whatever you do, I support you. Just guard your heart, and no one can hurt you."

Laura mumbled, "Didn't you fail to guard your heart when you married Joseph?"

"Yeah, but even if you can't, remember, you should love youself more," Cassie said.

"I got it," Laura nodded.

She remembered her selfless devotion to Benjamin, but that kind of sacrifice was enough once.

In this world, only people themselves never hurt themselves.

Soon, there was a knock on the door.

Laura felt a bit panicked.

She didn't want to face the Jude family right now; it made her feel pressured and guilty.

After hesitating for a few seconds, she opened the door.

It was Michael, looking conflicted. "Can I come in and talk to you?"

"Yes," Laura said, walking inside.

Michael closed the door. After a moment of silence, he took out a box, opened it, and knelt on one knee, revealing a diamond ring. "Marry me. I know I was bad before. I did a lot of wrong things. I might be irresponsible, and I even hurt you for Megan. Please give me a chance to take care of you and the child."

Laura was shocked. 'A proposal?'

She never expected Michael to propose.

They used to argue more than get along.

Laura thought, 'Michael doesn't have feelings for me, right? For the future of the Jude family, he's ready to risk everything.'

"Will you marry me?" Michael asked nervously.

Michael didn't know what was wrong with him. When the Jude family suggested he marry her, he didn't feel as resistant as before.

Maybe it was because of the child, or maybe he thought Laura was actually a good person and would make a good wife.

Maybe Michael had a slight fondness for Laura.

He admitted he might not love her now, but he would love her and the child in the future, to be a responsible man.

Laura stayed silent, lips pressed tight. Michael got nervous. "Say something. You're making me anxious."

"This is your second proposal. What's there to be nervous about?" Laura mocked.

Michael was stunned, then remembered proposing to Megan at a restaurant. He blushed. "I was serious with Megan, but we're over now. I'm serious about you. After we get married, the Jude family will get through this crisis, and we can deal with Benjamin. People are criticizing us, and Benjamin and Isla must be thrilled. Are you okay with that?"

Laura gritted her teeth, thinking, 'No, I'm not okay with that.'

"Michael, I'm just upset. You proposed to Megan, and now you're proposing to me like it's no big deal. It makes me feel like I'm picking up Megan's leftovers."

Michael was flustered and blurted out, "That's not fair. You were dumped by Benjamin, and I was dumped by Megan. We're a perfect match."

"What? Are you calling me trash too?" Laura, already pregnant, was quick to anger.

"No, I just mean our situations are similar," Michael said awkwardly. "Besides, I don't think you're trash. You're amazing, the world's most promising formulator. Your future is limitless. You're also younger and beautiful. Marrying you is my honor."

Laura was initially angry, but his words made her laugh. "I have to say, you know how to flatter yourself."

Yeah, Michael never thought he'd be so humble. He was never humble in front of Megan.

"Laura, can I get up? My knee is hurting," Michael asked.

"I remember you knelt for a long time when you proposed to Megan. Now you're complaining after a short time for me. Clearly, you're not sincere," Laura sneered.

Michael was desperate. "How long do you want me to kneel before you agree?"

Laura smiled. "Just kneel for half an hour, and I'll agree."

Michael's mouth twitched, thinking, 'Half an hour?'

"You don't want to?" Laura raised an eyebrow.

"No, just half an hour, no big deal," Michael quickly said.

Laura glanced at him. "Tell me, you didn't care about the Jude family's reputation when you were with Megan. Why do you care so much now? You're really going all out to make Carl president."

Michael opened his mouth and, after a moment, spoke with complexity, "Mainly because I feel responsible. No one blamed me, but I still feel uncomfortable. And the child will be born soon. It's not good for her to be an illegitimate child. If we get married, at least people will know she's my daughter and won't laugh at her."
