Chapter 1531 Stingy

Laura wasn't usually stingy. When guests came over and wanted to hold Maeve, she was cool with it. Maeve was adorable, and as her mom, Laura loved that everyone thought so too.

But right now, Laura felt like Derek was using Maeve to impress Blair, and it bugged her.

If she said no, it would make things awkward and make her look bad. So, she reluctantly handed Maeve over to Derek.

Derek took Maeve and immediately moved closer to Blair. The two of them huddled together, cooing over Maeve. Derek even made Maeve laugh a few times, and every time Maeve giggled, Blair laughed too.

"Derek, look at her smile! She's so cute," Blair said.

Laura couldn't stand watching them.

She looked away and took a sip of water.

Magnolia, with a knowing smile, leaned in and whispered, "Laura, do you think those two might get married? I rarely see Derek so into a girl. I think there's a chance."

Laura forced a smile. "Yeah, Blair seems nice, pretty, and outgoing."

"Plus, she seems to like kids. If she and Derek have a baby, she'd probably be a great mom," Magnolia added.

Hearing this, Laura felt a pang in her heart.

If she could, Laura would have left and skipped this whole dinner, but they were at the Presidential Palace, not exactly a place where she could just walk out.

As the dishes were served, Carl returned.

Blair didn't seem intimidated by Carl's status and chatted with him openly, making Carl and Magnolia happy.

Laura noticed that while eating, Derek kept discreetly turning the dishes towards Blair. At one point, Blair shyly glanced at Derek, "Derek, how did you know I love this?"

"I've had a few meals with you and noticed," Derek replied with a gentle smile, his gaze soft.

Laura lowered her eyes. She had wondered what Derek would be like if he fell in love, and now she knew.

In the past, at the dining table, he would often turn the dishes Laura liked towards her. Now, with Blair around, he didn't do that anymore.

When the shrimp was served, Derek even peeled the shrimp for Blair meticulously.

Laura, furious and jealous, had cut herself on the shrimp shells several times.

But Derek would never peel shrimp for Laura again. She could only quietly clean up with a napkin.

It was the most frustrating meal Laura had ever had. After the meal, Derek even invited Blair to visit his place.

That night, Laura watched Derek and Blair disappear side by side into the building ahead.

Laura lowered her head and returned to her place.

In the past, Maeve's smile was enough to cheer her up after a long day of work. But tonight, even with Maeve by her side, she couldn't resist but feel the urge to drown her annoyance in alcohol with a friend, and nor could she help but keep her eyes from glancing at the building where Derek lived.

What were he and Blair doing now?

When a man and a woman were alone together, they wouldn't just be sitting under a lamp reading or chatting. At the very least, they would hold hands or kiss.

Laura had enough of her relentless thoughts about what they were doing and shot up from her chair. She was a mom, and her job was to be with her kid. She had to bathe Maeve and play with her.

At nine o'clock, while she was in the living room feeding Maeve, she heard the nanny's voice. "Derek, good evening. Are you here to see Maeve?"

"Yeah," Derek replied.

Derek changed his shoes, his curved lips showing he was in a good mood.

Laura looked up and glanced at him indifferently, finding him super annoying. Now that Magnolia and Carl weren't around, she didn't want to hold back anymore.

"Maeve, did you miss me?" Derek reached out to touch Maeve's face, but Laura quickly hugged Maeve and put Maeve out of his reach.

"What are you doing?" Derek raised an eyebrow.

Laura didn't look up, her tone sharp. "Did Blair go home? I thought you'd have her stay over tonight."

"How could that be?" Derek sat down beside her, lazily crossing his legs. "Blair isn't that kind of girl. Even if she stayed, my mom would arrange for her to stay in the guest room at the Presidential Palace."

Laura sneered, "Yeah, Blair isn't that kind of woman."

The kind of woman who let him kiss her several times was Laura.

Just like he said, kissing Laura didn't mean he had to take responsibility.

Laura used to think it was no big deal, but tonight, the more she thought about it, the more she disliked Derek.

Maeve finished her milk, and Laura put down the bottle, speaking up, "I can see you and Blair get along well, but I hope you won't use Maeve to please her next time."

"What do you mean?" Derek was stunned, looking at her playfully, but Laura didn't see the look in his eyes as she kept her head down.

"I mean literally," Laura lowered her voice, not wanting the servants to hear.

"Are you talking about when I held Maeve for Blair to see during dinner?" Derek raised an eyebrow. "Is that something to be annoyed about? When did you become so petty?"

Laura suddenly got angry, "Of course I am. Did you just realize that today?"

She stood up with Maeve, losing her cool, "If you like kids so much, go have one with Blair."

Derek lazily draped his arms over the sofa, raising his face and frowning, "Does this mean I can't even hold Maeve anymore?"

"Do whatever you want." Laura threw out the words and went upstairs.

It wasn't until the sound of a door closing upstairs that Derek stood up and left.

In the bedroom, Laura leaned against the wall, full of regret.

Was she too impulsive just now? Would her words make her seem petty? Would Derek not want to hold Maeve anymore?

Derek was probably very angry now. After all, he seemed to really like Blair.

When could she move out of the Presidential Palace?

Living in the Presidential Palace was really awkward for Laura.

To avoid the awkwardness, Laura didn't even go for breakfast the next day. After washing up, she drove to the office.

At nine in the morning, Cassie had just entered the office when she saw a listless Laura sitting inside.

"Cassie, good morning. I want to consult you about something." Laura looked up, troubled. "Can you help me analyze if I was too much?"

"Try me." Cassie took a pack of coffee beans from the drawer, her every move exuding elegance and charm.
