Chapter 987 Stay Away From My Wife
She didn't, but he did.
These days, his biggest question was whether to see her or not. He was afraid to see her, yet he missed her terribly.
"Cassie, I'm sorry. I really didn't know," Joseph explained. "I didn't do it on purpose, and I never thought something so absurd would happen to me. Her hypnosis was very powerful; Megan altered all my memories and emotions, but I never realized that."
"So you mean I should forgive you?" Cassie suddenly turned around, her calm gaze falling on his handsome face.
"I..." Joseph was speechless. He felt embarrassed, and his eyes turned red with pain. "Cassie, I love you. I always have."
Cassie finally smiled. "Joseph, even if you hadn't been hypnotized by Megan that time, we might have already divorced by now."
Joseph was stunned. "No way."
"It's ridiculous. I'm the only one who remembers this relationship. Actually, even before that, our relationship had problems. When you were still clear-headed, you completely disregarded my feelings and spent all your time with Megan. When you went out to parties, I occasionally joined, but I was the most unwelcome person in your circle. You let your friends slander and attack me. Between Megan and me, you always stood by Megan. You thought I was being unreasonable. Later, when I was pregnant, we barely talked, and you were often not home. I couldn't feel your love," Cassie recounted the past.
Joseph's eyelashes trembled weakly. He thought they had been deeply in love before, and it was Megan's hypnosis that changed everything. It turned out he had been so cruel to her even before that.
Cassie said, "I knew Megan was insidious and vicious long ago. I warned you not to get close to her, but you thought I was trying to drive a wedge between you two. You trusted her too much, which is why Megan's hypnosis worked on you. Joseph, I never hated you until we lost our child and Laura was in danger. You could not love me; you could protect her, but it's terrifying when you lost your conscience and bottom line. Why does your love have to hurt others?
"Joseph, you're not a victim. You brought this on yourself."
'Brought this on myself.' Joseph's handsome face turned pale, and he pondered.
After a while, he laughed. "Yes, I brought this on myself. I had a wife and child and didn't cherish them, treating you like nothing and Megan like a treasure."
"Honey, breakfast is ready," David suddenly walked out from the door, calling affectionately and gently.
Joseph's body shook. He looked at David in his pajamas, and a huge wave surged in his red eyes.
He pondered, 'David stayed over? Are they living together? David even called Cassie honey; she was my wife!'
"Mr. Hernandez, you and Cassie are over. Today, you're just here to pick up Sophia. I don't think you have much to talk about." David gently wrapped his arm around Cassie's waist, their bodies closely pressed together. Also, let me warn you. I couldn't match your status before, so I had to endure your threats at the wedding. But you're no longer the Mr. Hernandez you used to be, and the Hernandez family can't compare to the Wit Group. I hope you stay away from Cassie or don't blame me for being rude," David said softly, his eyes filled with coldness.
Joseph sneered, thinking, 'Is David threatening me?'
"David, you have been rude for a long time. Unfortunately, you hid too well. I want to see how long you can keep hiding," After saying that, Joseph glanced at Cassie. Seeing her indifferent, he felt a hidden pain in his heart.
The car window behind him rolled down, and Sophia stuck her head out, sounding impatient. "Joseph, how long are you going to talk?"
"I'm coming." Joseph got in the car.
As he drove away, he saw David lowering his head in the rearview mirror to kiss Cassie on the lips.
He gripped the steering wheel tightly, the veins on the back of his hand bulging, and he pressed harder on the gas pedal.
Sophia screamed in fear, "Joseph, you're driving too fast. I'm scared."
Joseph snapped back to reality and quickly slowed down, apologizing, "I'm sorry."
"Joseph, you're so immature. No wonder Mommy left you," Sophia put her hands on her hips and complained.
"You're right." Joseph lowered his head in despair.
Sophia sighed. She knew Cassie had married David, which made her feel like a homeless child.
"Why are you sighing?" Joseph looked at Sophia, who was only three years old but acted like a little adult.
"I heard Mommy telling David this morning that she's moving to his villa tomorrow," Sophia said sadly. "I won't be able to visit you as often."
Just then, there was a sharp turn ahead. Joseph lost focus for a moment, and a black car came out. He instinctively slammed on the brakes, but it was too late.
The two cars collided.
From the back seat, Sophia's frightened cries came through.
He quickly turned around to check. Fortunately, Sophia was securely fastened in her seatbelt, but she was probably scared. Her face was pale, and she kept crying.
He hurriedly opened the car door and took Sophia out of the back seat.
Sophia clung to his neck, crying loudly.
From the driver's seat of the car, Patrick Evans got out and asked with concern, "Is she hurt?"
Joseph checked Sophia's body and, seeing she was unharmed, breathed a sigh of relief.
"She's fine. I'm sorry," Joseph apologized, as he knew it was his distraction that caused the accident.
"Sophia, don't cry. I'm here. It's okay," Joseph comforted Sophia for a long time before she calmed down.
Patrick quietly waited on the side without urging them. This made Joseph feel a bit of goodwill. "The main responsibility is mine. How much do you think the car repairs will cost? I'll transfer the money to you."
Patrick was about to speak when a deep, low voice came from the back seat of the car. "Patrick, come here."
Patrick walked to the back seat window of the car. The window rolled down, revealing a stranger's profile. He wore sunglasses and had a scar on his face, but even with half his face visible, it was clear Cameron had been very handsome in his youth.
Cameron whispered a few words to Patrick, who then walked over and said kindly, "Forget it. We don't need the repair money. You should leave with the child. Don't stay here and scare her. Be more careful next time."
"Thank you." Joseph was slightly surprised.
Although Snowford Evergreen was home to the wealthy and noble, it was rare to find someone so easy to deal with. Joseph had never seen him before.
