Chapter 615
"Joseph, you bastard!" The words hung in the air, a bitter accusation. Joseph was caught off guard, a mix of shock and embarrassment washing over him. He had always prided himself on his emotional fortitude, his ability to remain unaffected by such confrontations. Yet, every encounter with Megan stirred a deep-seated repulsion within him, a nagging doubt of his own adequacy.
However, the simple act of holding Cassie had ignited a potent surge of emotions within him. It was a sensation that left him feeling both ashamed and alarmingly unhinged.
When Cassie leveled her accusation at him, Joseph retorted defensively, "How am I a bastard? It's your fault for not behaving properly. I'm just a normal man."
"Normal?" Cassie shot back, her voice laced with incredulity. "You were at the urology department just this morning."
Joseph's ears burned with embarrassment, a flush creeping up his neck. He had the sudden urge to silence Cassie. "I already told you, I went with Nathaniel."
"Don't take me for a fool. What boss accompanies their employee to the urology department?" Cassie pushed Joseph away, her anger palpable as she pointed towards the door. "Get out."
Joseph's gaze lingered on Cassie's flushed face, her features delicate and enticing like a blooming rose. His discomfort intensified. "If I leave in this state, how do you expect me to go?"
"That's not my problem," Cassie retorted, her disgust evident.
"Of course it is. You're still holding onto our marriage certificate. You're still my wife," Joseph countered, stepping closer to her.
Cassie recoiled at Joseph's audacity. "Joseph, have you no shame? You claim to have deep feelings for Megan, yet this is how you treat her?"
The mention of Megan was like a splash of cold water, jolting Joseph back to reality. He frowned, taken aback by his own absurd behavior. He must have lost his mind.
"I was just messing with you. Your face disgusts me," Joseph muttered, storming off into her bathroom.
Cassie sneered, musing over Joseph's odd behavior. Why had he retreated to her bathroom? Was he trying to repulse her so much that she'd never dare use it again? Surely, he wouldn't take long.
However, after more than ten minutes, Joseph still hadn't emerged, leaving Cassie speechless. Was he still dealing with his urological issues? Or was Megan more demanding than she'd imagined? The thought sent a shiver down her spine.
Coincidentally, Cassie's stomach chose that moment to grumble, reminding her that she hadn't eaten lunch. Deciding to cook, she topped some rice with smoked sausages.
When Joseph finally emerged, his expression sour, the tantalizing aroma of rice and seafood wafted from the kitchen. His stomach growled in response.
He found Cassie at the kitchen door, clad in a daisy-patterned apron, chopping vegetables. Her hair was tied up in a ponytail, swaying gently with her movements. The sight of her, elegant and alluring, stirred the emotions he'd tried to suppress.
"You're trying to seduce me," he accused, his voice cold.
Cassie looked at him, her beautiful, dark eyes filled with confusion and disgust. "What have I done?"
"You know exactly what you've done," Joseph retorted, his gaze fixed on Cassie's expressive eyes. Wasn't she the one seducing him now?
Cassie glanced down instinctively, "Are you done yet?"
Joseph glared at her, his ears reddening. " Cassie, what's going on in your mind? Don't you have any shame?"
