Chapter 323
"Vera was full of herself. ""Do you think a car accident can make Leo divorce me? Dream on.""
Cassie pulled out her phone to call Leo—the call connected, but no one answered.
""Stop wasting your time. The old man's got him tied up,"" Vera scoffed. ""Don't you see? The old man approves this; even Leo can't help you.""
""Do you hear me? Get out,"" Luna said, kicking Cassie's fallen clothes away.
Cassie bowed her head, silently seething as she stuffed her clothes into a suitcase, the rage within her known to herself alone.
She'd have her revenge, she vowed, for every bit of this humiliation.
But before she could gather all her clothing, Luna dumped a bucket of dirty water over them.
""Oops, so sorry,"" Luna mocked. ""I was just trying to wash away the dirt.""
Luna's schadenfreude was palpable, but Cassie retorted with a cold laugh, ""You're proud now, all thanks to the Hernandez family supporting you. But have you ever thought, what if Joseph doesn't want you one day?""
Luna's face went pale. ""What are you talking about? Joseph and I are about to get married.""
""Hope for your sake that's true,"" Cassie said mockingly, her lips curling in disdain. Just a moment ago, Joseph still wanted her. She doubted he had any genuine affection for Luna.
Refusing to give Vera and her daughter another chance to mock her, she grabbed her things and left without a word.
Homeless in New York, she had no choice but to check into a five-star hotel near her office.
In the evening, her phone rang. It was Leo. ""Cassie, why did you move out?""
""Dad, didn't you know? I was kicked out.""
""What?"" Leo's anger flared. ""That damn wench Vera! I'll deal with her. Where are you? I'll come get you and bring you home.""
""No need, Dad. I'll stay out here for a while,"" Cassie spoke helplessly. ""With Joseph backing them, they probably won't take you seriously anymore. Plus, Grandpa sides with them. If I go back, I'll just get bullied.""
Leo blamed himself. ""Cassie, I'm sorry. I've let you down.""
""It's alright, Dad. It's only temporary. I believe things will get better,"" Cassie said, her voice bitter as she stared out the window.

The next day
A phone call woke Cassie up, prompting her to hurry to the company's conference room.
""Ms. Brooks, the coastal area plot we acquired is now stuck—all permits for starting construction are being held up,"" Charles reported anxiously.
""Did you try to grease the wheels?"" Cassie massaged her temples.
""We did, but it's no use. Everything was fine before,"" Charles said with a wry smile. ""Suddenly, they're claiming a land dispute with the adjacent plot.""
Roy from the engineering department said, ""Ms. Brooks, have we offended someone in New York?""
