Chapter 362

"I hope you'll agree." Joseph slowly helped Cassie to her feet. "Only with your blessing will our union be truly legitimate. Plus, marrying her means she can return to the Chapman family with full respect, free from anyone looking down on her."

His final words struck a chord deep within Leo Chapman's heart.
...
She couldn't quite recall how Joseph managed to get her into the car.

She gazed at the handsome man focused on driving beside her, and her mind swirled with confusion. So, was it because of his plan to marry her that he had stepped down from his presidency of the Hernandez Corporation?

"Don't keep staring at me like that."

The car halted at an intersection, and Joseph turned to steal a quick kiss on her lips. "I'm taking you to pick out a wedding ring."

"I don't want to marry you!" Cassie felt like she was going insane; there was no way she wanted to be tied to someone with such a daunting personality for the rest of her life.

"Cassie, I've given up everything for you, and now you say you don't want to marry me? That's hardly fair," Joseph said, his piercing dark eyes seemed to accuse her of betrayal.

Cassie's smile twitched. "Even if you're not the president of Hernandez's group anymore, I'm sure your assets are still plentiful. I believe many women would flock to you."

"Fine, then keep being 'the other woman.'" Joseph raised an eyebrow, "I'll marry Luna, but I won't let go of your hand. Perfect, I'll have the love of both sisters."

"Joseph, you're truly repulsive!" Fury lit up in Cassie's eyes.

"Choose then—be the mistress or the lawful wife." Joseph's lips curled in his typical, infuriating manner.

Cassie felt an inexplicable constriction in her chest.
He meant to choose her, to marry her, but his method was utterly disgusting.

What woman doesn't dream of a romantic proposal? She'd never had one, not in the past nor now.

But did she have a choice? Who wants to be 'the other woman' for life, especially under Luna's constant disdain?

No, for Isabella's sake, she couldn't let Vera and her daughter look down on her.

"Fine, I'll marry you."
She turned away after speaking, looking out the window as if it were just another transaction.

Her first marriage to him was to take revenge against Arthur Lewis; this time, it was to strike at Vera and her daughter.

Joseph's lips formed a deep smile as he started the car and soon parked in front of a jewelry store. The sign-out front read, "Love for a Lifetime."
It felt like a mockery of her and Joseph.

"Get out," he said, opening the passenger door and extending his hand toward her.

Cassie took his hand with downcast eyes and walked with him into the jewelry store.

If he didn't mind her appearance embarrassing him, why should she care so much?
"Welcome." The woman at the door - the manager - almost choked on her voice as she saw Joseph stride in with an unattractive woman whose face was plastered with bandages.

The reaction wasn't just hers; all the staff were wearing a strange look on their faces. After all, Joseph's godlike features had every woman oozing adoration as if he were a Hollywood heartthrob. Everyone knew he was dating Luna, a name known in every social circle, yet he'd never brought her to his jewelry store, whereas the woman accompanying him now was a newcomer and quite a sight.

"Uh huh," Joseph responded confidently in a deep, resonant voice. "My fiancée is here to pick out her wedding jewelry. Bring out the best, the most fashionable, and the priciest pieces you've got."

"Fiancée?" The manager was stunned, silently questioning Joseph's taste.

"Fiancée," Joseph repeated with a lowered tone, his gaze sharpening with an edge of danger. "Is there a problem?"
