Chapter 567
Joseph fell into a moment of contemplation before he finally spoke, "In that case, you should relocate to my residence."
A spark of excitement lit up Nathan's eyes as he responded, "Alright. I recall you purchasing a seaside villa a few years back. Megan has always cherished the idea of living by the sea, so perhaps we could reside there."
Joseph hesitated, his mind drifting back to the seaside villa he indeed owned. It was a place he once shared with Cassie, and the thought of it stirred a subconscious reluctance within him.
"Megan," Joseph began, his tone laced with a hint of annoyance. He then softened his gaze towards her, "Do you recall the time you confessed your love for the sea, prompting me to buy that villa?"
Under the spell of Megan's bright, hopeful eyes, Joseph found himself averting his gaze as he muttered a quick, "Yes."
"In that case, I'll relocate there," Megan declared, her pale lips curling into a sweet smile as she bit down gently.
Joseph let out a sigh of resignation and nodded in agreement.
Nathan, however, continued, "This situation cannot persist indefinitely. You cannot remain hidden in Joseph's villa, unable to venture out to work or anywhere else without facing judgement and scrutiny. It's unjust for Megan to shoulder all the blame when it was you two who fell in love first. Why should Megan bear the brunt of all this slander?"
"Bro, don't say such things. Having Joseph by my side is enough for me," Megan interjected, her eyes welling up with tears. "Even if I am forever shrouded in darkness because of him, I would still be content."
Joseph reached out to gently pat Megan's head, guilt gnawing at his insides. "Don't worry, I won't let you live in the shadows."
As he spoke, a fleeting shadow crossed Joseph's eyes.
Upon leaving the hospital, Joseph climbed into his car, instructing the driver, "Take me to the Hernandez family estate."
An hour later, Joseph arrived at the estate.
The sun was shining brightly, casting a warm glow on Cassie who sat under a peach pergola, engrossed in her book. The sunlight filtered through the leaves, painting a serene picture.
A peculiar feeling momentarily swept over Joseph, but it vanished as quickly as it had come, leaving him unable to grasp its essence.
Shaking off the strange sensation, Joseph strode purposefully towards Cassie.
Hearing his approach, Cassie looked up. The man before her was dressed in dark gray casual pants paired with a blue business shirt, his sleeves rolled up just slightly. His aura was as captivating as ever, enough to make any woman's heart flutter. However, his beautiful eyes held a cold, indifferent gaze.
It was a coldness that surpassed their initial meeting.
Cassie reminded herself that she had to grow accustomed to this man's icy demeanor.
Yet, each time she faced him, Cassie felt a pang of heartache.
The man she once loved now treated her with less warmth than a stranger.
"Do you need something?" Cassie asked, her gaze lowered to hide the sadness in her eyes.
"You are my wife. If there's nothing wrong, can't I come to see you?" Joseph retorted, then paused, surprised by his own words.
"Oh, so you still remember that I am your wife? I thought you had forgotten long ago," Cassie responded, her voice laced with mockery.
Annoyance flashed across Joseph's face. "Enough. I came here today to inform you that we need to issue a statement declaring our divorce last month, and that our marriage was merely a marriage of convenience for our own benefits."
Cassie looked up at Joseph in shock, her beautiful eyes filled with disbelief.
