Chapter 922 I Can Give Him My Finger
Joseph, observing Michael's prejudiced demeanor, truly wished to throw him into the restroom and splash some cold water on him to wake him up. However, he doubted it would work, just as it hadn't worked before. No matter what anyone said, Michael wouldn't believe it, as if he were bewitched.
"Come on, if you're in a bad mood, drink some wine. Drinking will ease your sorrow," Lucas said, pouring Michael a drink.
It wasn't until Michael had drunk himself into a stupor and fallen asleep on the sofa that Lucas lit a cigarette and sighed deeply.
"I feel like Megan isn't trying to support him at all; she just despises him for being worthless without the Ocean Blue group," Lucas said.
"I think so," Joseph replied, giving him a curious look. "Didn't you quite believe Megan before?"
"She must have been very good at pretending. Maybe Megan changed three years ago, and we just didn't notice." Lucas glanced at him. "You missed the press conference yesterday, but it was quite a show. Laura wore a dress the same color as Megan's, and Michael dragged Laura upstairs, forcing her to change. Do you think the past Michael would have done such a thing? Coincidentally, Laura's red dress turned out to look better than Megan's."
Joseph was stunned. From what he knew of Michael, he wouldn't do such a thing without reason. Michael was a careless person who wouldn't even think about the color of clothes unless someone prompted him.
Clearly, no one but Megan would care about such things, and Michael cared most about Megan's feelings.
"Lucas, thank goodness... thank goodness I didn't marry her back then." Joseph suddenly sighed. "Do you think what she said about Rex is all true?"
Lucas's gaze was complicated. In the past, he would have said absolutely not, but now it's hard to tell.
"It's hard to say," Lucas said.
Joseph smiled bitterly. "I have no right to laugh at Michael. I was just like him before."
"Don't mention him; I'm not much different." Lucas sighed. "That's why I didn't say some things just now. He loves Megan so much right now. If I dared to say a bad word about her, he'd fight me on the spot."
"If Cassie knew how Michael treated Laura, she would be very angry," Joseph murmured.
He had been foolish before and hurt Cassie. In the future, he didn't want anyone around Cassie to be hurt again.
The next day, Joseph drove to the Peace Group parking lot. He honked the horn for a long time, but the parking lot attendant didn't open the gate.
Finally, the attendant walked over, and Joseph opened the car door. Seeing Joseph's stern face, the attendant nervously smiled. "Sorry, Mr. Hernandez. Miss Brooks has instructed that no unfamiliar vehicles are allowed in recently, especially you."
Joseph gripped the steering wheel tightly, feeling bitter. He hadn't expected Cassie to be so ruthless now, not even allowing him into the Peace Group parking lot.
"Move," Joseph ordered coldly.
"I'm sorry, I..." Before the attendant could finish, a check was shoved into his hand.
"This is to compensate for the damage to the parking lot gate," he then said.
After giving the instruction, Joseph started the car and crashed through the gate. The attendant was on the verge of tears. Not long after, Cassie drove up and frowned at the broken barrier.
"Miss Brooks, it was Mr. Hernandez who broke it. He even gave me a check," the attendant explained.
Cassie frowned. What was meant to happen had finally happened.
Cassie drove in to find a black Aston Martin parked next to her designated spot. Joseph was sitting on the hood, wearing a white shirt that hung loosely around his frame, probably because he had recently lost some weight.
"Joseph, why are you here again? I thought we made things very clear," Cassie said as she slammed her car door shut, her tone filled with impatience.
Joseph's heart ached. He had avoided coming to the company to see her for fear that she would treat him with such indifference.
"I need to talk to you about your friend Laura," Joseph explained.
"What about her?" Cassie was taken aback.
"Do you want to discuss it here or in your office?" Joseph walked closer to her.
"Fine." Cassie frowned. Since it was about Laura, she had no choice but to agree.
Once they were upstairs, she got straight to the point. "Go ahead."
Joseph looked around. "Is this how you treat guests? Not even a glass of water?"
"If you're here for water, turn right, take the elevator down," Cassie said, crossing her arms. "I'm very busy and don't have time to entertain Mr. Hernandez."
"You are truly heartless." Joseph felt a deep sense of bitterness. He hadn't expected that he would need to use Laura as an excuse to see her one day. "Why did you move?"
"Joseph, I only let you up here because of Laura," Cassie said, growing impatient.
"Do you really not want to see me?" Joseph's deep eyes fixed on her.
"Isn't it obvious? I find it disgusting to even look at you now," she replied.
Cassie didn't hide the loathing in her eyes.
"Haven't I made myself clear? You're always like this. When you think you're right, you look down on me, and your actions make me wish I were dead. But the moment you realize you're wrong, you come back, trying to make amends and seek forgiveness. Once or twice, you might not get tired, but I find it exhausting," Cassie snorted.
Joseph's handsome face turned extremely grim from her scolding. No one had ever spoken to him like this, but now he realized that he would rather be scolded by her to see her. Over the past few days, he had been going mad thinking about her, especially with the guilt and longing that tormented him.
"I just wanted to remind you it's best not to let Laura agree to the engagement with Michael," Joseph struggled to say. "Michael is infatuated with Megan. He will never marry Laura. Laura is just a pawn to delay the Jude family's plans."
"Is that all you wanted to say?" Cassie interrupted him, exasperated. "I already know that. I'm not foolish enough to think Michael fell for Laura after one night together. Have you considered how people will talk about her if she doesn't acknowledge the engagement? They'll call her a home wrecker, an adulteress."
Joseph's Adam's apple bobbed. He had thought of that as well.
"You're really here to make sure Laura doesn't meddle between Michael and Megan, right? You're going to great lengths to ensure Megan's happiness," Cassie sneered.
"It's not like that, Cassie. I didn't understand Megan very well before. A lot has happened recently, and I've realized how naive I was. Megan isn't that simple," Joseph hurried to explain. "If Laura continues, she'll become a victim between Megan and Michael. Megan completely brainwashes Michael; his feelings for her are too deep."
Cassie responded coldly, "Are you done talking? Then you can leave."
Joseph was frustrated. How many times had Cassie asked him to leave today?
"Cassie, can I make it up to Spencer? Or... I can give him my finger," Joseph asked desperately.
