Chapter 1423 Disgusted

Laura had already given up on Michael. If she hadn't, she might've had a heart attack right then and there.

When Michael saw her go quiet, he thought she finally got it. He gently took her hand and said, "Babe, once I send Megan away, we can have a good life together."

Laura looked at his hand and felt disgusted. That same morning, Michael had used that hand to hug Megan right in front of her. He didn't care about Laura's feelings at all.

Laura pulled her hand away and walked into the villa. Maeve was lying in the crib in the living room, smiling sweetly. Laura watched her for a while, almost in tears.

Michael came up behind her and said, "Look at Maeve, she's so happy every day. Don't be mad anymore. For Maeve's sake, don't you want her to have a happy home?"

"So, you're with me mostly for Maeve, right?" Laura suddenly asked.

Michael's face froze. "Of course not, haven't I told you that before?"

"Yeah, you have," Laura murmured. "I believed you back then."

"What do you mean 'back then'? You don't believe me now?" Michael was getting annoyed. "I just explained it to you; why won't you believe me?"

Laura didn't say anything. She just went to the bathroom and washed her hands with disinfectant. She felt so dirty. After washing, she came out, opened a file bag, and threw the divorce papers in front of Michael. "I heard everything you just said. I'm even more convinced we should divorce. Sign it. I'll have custody of Maeve, but you can visit her. If your parents want to see Maeve, they can take her to the Jude estate. But if you and Megan get married, I won't let Maeve recognize Megan as her stepmother."

Michael stared blankly at the divorce papers. They had fought about divorce many times, but this was the first time Laura had printed out the papers. His mind buzzed, and he tore up the papers.

"You can tear them up, but I'll print more copies tomorrow," Laura said calmly.

"Are you crazy?" Michael shouted. "How many times do I have to explain? Do I have to kick Megan out right now to make you happy?"

"Can you?" Laura asked, curious.

She shouldn't have tested him again, but she was curious about how much she mattered to Michael.

"No," Michael said without thinking. "Megan's leg is injured, and Joseph has backed off, but who knows what he'd do to Megan if I don't protect her. I owe Megan. Laura, you can't be so selfish. Look at your life, your bags, your rings, your earrings, each worth tens of thousands of dollars. And Megan? Megan lives in a small house. All of this is because of Megan's sacrifice."

Laura found it funny. She took off her watch, earrings, and diamond ring, and even emptied her bag, which was a gift from Michael.

He used to give her a gift every day, and Laura was so happy and sweet back then.

"Michael, I'm giving all these things back to you."

Laura threw everything he had given her back at him. "You can give them to Megan, so she won't suffer so much. And my current life isn't because of Megan's sacrifice. Sure, the Miller Family isn't as wealthy as the Jude Family, but my parents can still afford these. And I can even afford them myself. I'm not a parasite on the Jude Family."

Laura stood up, trembling with anger. "Do you think marrying you is my honor, the Miller Family's honor? Ask yourself, after we got married, what did the Miller Family rely on the Jude Family for? Do you think I wanted to be associated with you? If I hadn't been pregnant and concerned about the Jude Family's reputation, I wouldn't have married you."

Laura looked at him with disdain.

Michael suddenly remembered the harsh words Laura had said to him on the phone before, and his face darkened. "What do you mean, Laura? Do you look down on me that much, or have you always regretted marrying me?"

"I didn't regret it during the good times we had, but today I regret it very much."

Laura took a deep breath. "Actually, when you went on a business trip to Emerald Lakeside recently, you said you were coming back on an evening flight, but I knew you came back in the morning. During that time, I had countless thoughts. I wondered if you were tired of me after getting me, and if you had another woman outside."

"I didn't lie to you on purpose that time," Michael explained awkwardly, his brow twitching.

Laura interrupted him, "Of course I know. Maybe you haven't slept with Megan yet, but put yourself in my shoes. That day, Derek just touched my head, and you sternly stopped him. What about you? You spent whole nights with Megan. Didn't you have any physical contact?"

"Her foot was injured, I just held her for a bit," Michael said irritably.

"If you really think it's nothing, then I have nothing more to say," Laura shrugged. "We have different views. You think you're innocent, but I feel you're already trampling on my bottom line. The people I hate most in this life are Megan and Nathan. I'll never forget how badly Nathan beat me that night, and how desperate I felt."

"And I couldn't even seek justice because of Megan. All of you helped Nathan. In the end, Nathan came out and told reporters I seduced him. During those days, I felt like an outcast."

Michael would never understand the thousands of harsh comments Laura received on Facebook every day.

Laura couldn't forget how some people even called her a whore. Walking down the street, she got pelted with rotten eggs, people whispered about who she had seduced, and she was splashed with dirty water.

Laura wanted to die back then.

But she couldn't stand not getting justice or letting her tormentors go unpunished.

Laura wanted to tell everyone that she would never stoop to seducing a scumbag like Nathan.
