Chapter 1238 Do You Have a Mistress Here?

"Carl ain't really lookin' to stir the pot. He's got dirt on the Hernandez family too. It's a personal beef; no need to start a riot," Declan said, keepin' it real. Plus, he kinda liked Cassie.

Isabella rolled her eyes. "So when you gonna get payback for my mom and Olivia? If you can't or won't, I'll handle it. I don't need you for everything."

Declan winced at her harsh tone. "Isabella, if you wanna take down Joseph and Cassie fast, you gotta push Carl. But C'mon, I know your tactics—they'll cause international chaos. It's not worth it."

"I think you just don't wanna do it. Feeling sorry for Cassie?" Isabella shot back. "She looks a lot like me when I was younger, huh?"

Declan was floored. He stared at her, sitting there all cold and distrustful, and felt a pang of sadness. "Isabella, what are you getting at?"

"I've seen Cassie," Isabella said flatly. "Some nieces do look like their aunts. She does look a lot like me. Maybe you can't hurt her 'cause she reminds you of me when I was young. I'm not as young anymore."

Declan got it, but he was pissed.

"Isabella, is that really what you think of me? Am I that low?" His eyes blazed with anger.

Seeing him so mad, Isabella felt a wave of hurt and sadness. Declan had never been this harsh before, but now he was mad at her over Cassie.

"Declan, you jerk." Isabella threw a pillow at him. "Get out."

Declan gritted his teeth and tried to calm her down. "Isabella, it kills me that you think of me like this. Don't you get how I feel about you?"

Isabella, seeing him soften, calmed down a bit too. "Either bring Cassie to me and teach her a lesson or send her to jail, and I'll believe you."

Declan went quiet.

He knew Isabella's idea of a "lesson" wasn't simple.

If he had the goods to send her to jail, would he need the Morris family to push before?

"Isabella, be reasonable."

"If you can't do it, then get out," Isabella yelled, seeing him hesitate.

In the past, he never hesitated to do what she asked. This time, he did.

Declan pressed his lips together and walked out.

In the dark, Isabella cried and threw the blanket.

She didn't know what was wrong with her. Maybe it was the stress of a shaky marriage.

The next day, when Everett stretched and came out, he saw Declan coming out of the study.

He widened his eyes and rushed over. "Dad, did Mom kick you to the study again?"

It wasn't the first time, but usually, it was 'cause Declan messed up. This time was different.

Declan muttered, "I don't know what's up with your mom. She actually thinks I have a thing for Cassie."

Everett was stunned.

Isabella was being ridiculous. Didn't she get how much Declan loved her?

During breakfast, the usually warm vibe felt like a cold front had hit.

Isabella suddenly blurted out, "I've been thinking all night. Y'all need to stay out of the Brooks family's mess."

Everett nearly choked on his egg. "Mom, what are you up to?"

"Mom, what's going on with you and Declan?" Olivia chimed in, looking all confused but secretly thrilled. She hadn't expected her plan to work so fast.

Thanks to those drugs, Isabella's personality had done a 180. The old, rational Isabella would've never fallen for this so easily.

"This is grown-up stuff. Kids should butt out." With that, Isabella dropped her knife and fork and walked off.

Everett shot a cautious glance at Declan. Declan rubbed his temples and turned to him. "Keep an eye on Cassie. Make sure she's safe."

"Dad," Everett said, a bit taken aback. "Weren't you against this before…"

"After dealing with her a few times, I get where you're coming from," Declan replied. "Besides, after this whole mess, I realized Joseph's no joke. If something happens to Cassie before we take him down, he might go nuclear on us. Most of our crew ain't in Madison; we might not get out clean."

"Dad, you're really sharp," Everett said.

Cassie had no clue she was being watched.

Ever since the Peace Group got handed over to Laura, she didn't need to hit the office. She spent her days at home sketching architectural designs or hanging out with Oliver and Sophia.

Sometimes she'd catch the news. Lately, the Hernandez Group had been laying low, but the Wit Group was blowing up. They'd set up three new branches and were cranking out 80% of the country's vaccines.

This week, the Wit Group had already cracked the top five companies in Madison.

David's career was on fire.

No one saw it coming, the way David bounced back from being a pariah.

Cassie knew that once David started his revenge tour, her and Joseph's chill days were numbered.

Thinking about it made her treasure her peaceful life with Joseph even more. Since Joseph couldn't make it home for lunch, Cassie decided to bring it to him.

When she got to the top floor, Joseph was downstairs in a meeting. She waited in his office for half an hour before he finally showed up.

"Cassie, what brings you here?" Joseph asked, looking pleasantly surprised.

"Just a surprise check to see if you're hiding any side chicks in your office," Cassie joked with a grin.

"There's a lover in the office, right here." Joseph scooped her up and kissed her.

Cassie blushed and pushed him away.

She pulled out the lunch. "Let's eat."

"Thanks, babe. Let's dig in together." Just as Joseph grabbed the lunch, they heard the security guard's voice outside.

"Stop, you can't go in. This is the chairman's office."

"Move it. From now on, we come and go as we please." With a loud, arrogant shout, the half-closed office door was kicked open.

Two bodyguards barged in first, looking tough and ready for trouble. After they took their positions at the door, Olivia strutted in, rocking a red skirt, sunglasses, and a hat, carrying a small bag, and looking super smug.
