Chapter 1011 Do You Have Any Shame?

"I was thinking," Cassie said as she slid into the passenger seat. I'll drive you home. You're pregnant, after all."

"I'm just a little over a month along, okay? It's not like I'm about to pop." Laura shot her a curious look. "What did Joseph say to you? Did he realize he still can't forget you and wants to get back together?"

Cassie felt a twinge of embarrassment. If she hadn't seen Laura start the car earlier, she might've thought Laura had been eavesdropping.

Seeing Cassie stay silent, Laura gave her a knowing look. "So, what do you think?"

"Please, I'm a married woman," Cassie said irritably.

"Look ahead." Laura raised an eyebrow. On the side of the road, Joseph's tall figure was walking slowly, occasionally glancing back at the car.

The seven-star hotel was in a remote area. There were hardly any taxis, and if it weren't for the banquet, even private cars passing by would be rare.

The scene made Cassie feel a bit sad and complicated.

Once, in her eyes, the elegant and aloof Laura was like the moon in the sky, now reduced to leaving a banquet without even a car to ride in.

'Where was Nathaniel? Where was the driver?'

"Should we give him a ride?" Laura asked Cassie.

Cassie sneered. "There's no way he doesn't have a driver."

"It's true." Laura nodded. She stepped on the gas and sped off for a few dozen meters before Cassie called out to her.

"Wait."

"What's wrong?" Laura was driving fast.

"Hit the brakes," Cassie said, exasperated.

Laura's mouth twitched, and she stepped on the brakes.

Cassie cleared her throat. "I just saw his arm; it looks pretty badly injured. We should take him to the hospital. After all, he got hurt at your banquet. If something happens, it won't be good for your reputation."

Laura really wanted to point out how hypocritical Cassie was being. Just a moment ago, she had said Joseph had a driver.

"Why are you looking at me like that? We're just good-hearted." Cassie blinked. "You call him over, but don't say it was my idea."

Laura was completely convinced by her.

She rolled down the window and looked back through the rearview mirror. Joseph's tall, slender figure, dressed in a white shirt, looked striking in the night breeze. Even though his face wasn't clear, his physique would make most women swoon.

However, as he walked past her sports car, Joseph didn't even glance inside and continued walking straight ahead.

Laura honked the horn and drove up to him. "Get in. We'll take you to the hospital."

Hearing the familiar voice, Joseph turned his head and saw Laura and Cassie in the passenger seat.

But Cassie was looking down, playing a game on her phone, completely engrossed as if she didn't care who Laura was talking to.

Laura felt like rolling her eyes.

They had known each other for ten years, and it was the first time Laura realized how good Cassie was at pretending. Just a moment ago, she had been constantly looking back.

"Okay." Joseph chuckled, opened the back door, and got in.

Laura started the car, and the silence between the two of them was so awkward that it made her uncomfortable. She couldn't help but start a conversation. "Why are you walking alone? Where's your driver?"

"I couldn't find him," Joseph said in a low voice. "My phone broke when I was climbing out of the well, so I can't contact anyone."

"Then use my phone to call your family. I'll take you to the nearest hospital, and they can come get you," Laura suggested, glancing at Cassie, who was still glued to her game.

"No need, just drop me off over there. I'm not close with my family. The ones I am close with are either too old, too young, or married to someone else," Joseph replied, sounding helpless and melancholy.

Cassie, still playing her game, was speechless.

She thought, 'When was I ever close to him?'

Laura decided to stop talking.

Over twenty minutes later, they finally dropped Joseph off at the hospital.

As he opened the car door to get out, he turned back, his handsome face looking pitiful under the hospital's pale streetlights. "Can you lend me some money? My wallet fell into the well too, and I don't have any money for treatment. Coincidentally, Lucas isn't at the hospital these days; he's out of town for a conference."

This time, Cassie couldn't hold back. "Joseph, do you think we're stupid?"

"I'm not lying. The Jude family invited the Nelson family tonight too, but Lucas really isn't in Whisperlyn City," Joseph explained innocently.

Laura could vouch for that. "Lucas really isn't in Whisperlyn City."

Joseph immediately said, "Even though I'm not what I used to be, I won't owe you money for treatment. If you don't believe me, you can search me."

Cassie was at a loss for words, especially seeing his pitiful face, which reminded her of Sophia's pitiful act.

She thought, 'When did Joseph learn to play the pity card? Joseph and Sophia are practically the same.'

"Laura, do you have any money? Lend him some so we can get rid of him quickly," Cassie said in a disdainful tone.

"I don't have any cash." Laura sighed. "Why don't you stay and help him pay the medical bills? After all, he did get hurt at my banquet. If something happens, it won't be good for my reputation."

Cassie was speechless. The words sounded so familiar. She had just said something similar to Laura not long ago, and now Laura was throwing it back at her.

Outside, Joseph looked at her expectantly.

Cassie sighed helplessly, opened the car door, and got out. She then glared at Joseph resentfully. "Let's go."

"Thank you." Joseph followed her.

Cassie rolled her eyes at him. "Joseph, do you have any shame? Where's your old arrogant self?"

"In front of you, I can be shameless. I can put away my pride and dignity and be humble to the point of insignificance," Joseph replied confidently and shamelessly.

He had previously searched on his phone for various ways and tips to win back an ex-wife, and he concluded that persistence and shamelessness were key.

Cassie was exasperated. "I think you didn't hurt your hand in the elevator; you hurt your brain."

"Yes, I hurt my brain, so now all I can think about is your voice and your face. Tell me, how can I cure my brain?"

Joseph raised an eyebrow, his words dripping with cheesiness.
