Chapter 83
"Cassie snorted as she looked at Olivia. ""You're jealous of me because I'm more beautiful than you. Have the ability to say it openly. You just open your mouth, and others do your dirty work for you. You can then pretend to be innocent and soft all day long.""
""Cassie, I didn't mean it like that. I really wanted to compliment you."" Olivia's eyes reddened in aggravation.
Arthur just couldn't take it anymore. ""Cassie, you're done. From beginning to end, all I can see is you being aggressive toward Olivia.""
""Look, someone is jumping in to help you,"" Cassie sneered.
Arthur glared angrily. Robert became impatient and said, ""Enough, Cassie! Go and keep mom company. Join us later when the banquet begins.""
""I'll just see Grandma and leave.""
""You have to feed Grandma later,"" Robert said irritably. ""She fell recently and became paralyzed. She can't even eat on her own.""
Cassie was stunned. She couldn't believe that her grandmother had become paralyzed!
""Why didn't you tell me?""
""Would it make a difference if we told you? Besides making us angry, what else can you do?"" Robert snapped.
Cassie turned coldly and walked toward the private room. There sat Grandma in a wheelchair, staring blankly out the window. Next to her, a lady was using a straw to feed Grandma water.
Tears welled up in Cassie's eyes. ""Grandma, I'm sorry. I came late.""
She hadn't visited her grandmother all this time because she didn't want her to worry. In the entire Brooks family, besides their late grandfather, Grandma was the only one who treated her well. While Robert and Helen had been strict and indifferent toward her since childhood, Grandma was always doting on her.
Unfortunately, after she went abroad, Grandma also moved back to Meadow Garden.
""Grandma is deaf and senile. She can't hear,"" the lady feeding water said.
""Who are you?"" Cassie remembered that it wasn't her taking care of Grandma before.
""The Brooks family hired me to look after grandma. Just call me Mona.""
""But we already had someone to take care of grandma.""
""After grandma became paralyzed and started soiling herself, it was too much trouble for that person to take care of her, so she left.""
Cassie was shocked. That aunt had taken care of Grandma for over thirty years, and their bond was strong. It seemed unlikely that she would leave at a time when Grandma needed her the most. Could it be that she was also getting old and couldn't keep up with it anymore?
Cassie squatted down beside grandma, held her hand, and said loudly, ""Grandma, I'm here to see you. It's Cassie.""
Grandma Brooks looked at her in confusion and suddenly smiled. ""Isabella? My dear, did you go out and make mischief again? Hurry up and change your clothes. Your dad said he'd take us out to eat.""
Cassie was taken aback. Isabella was her biological aunt, but she had passed away twenty years ago. ""Grandma, you're thinking about aunt again.""
Grandma Brooks seemed oblivious, muttering to herself in the air. Cassie felt uneasy as she sat beside her.
After some time, Robert came and said, ""Let's take your grandma out to eat.""
""She can eat here with me,"" Cassie replied irritably when she saw them.
""Whether you agree or not, you must come and have a pleasant meal with our family today. Otherwise, you'll never see your grandmother again,"" Robert said ruthlessly.
Cassie's heart had already turned cold. With just one phrase, ""our family"", he had completely expelled her from this home. "
