Chapter 1294 Am I Really This Old?
Joseph was like, "So, how am I different from Sophia and Oliver?"
Cassie shot back, "Joey, haven't you noticed? Sophia and Oliver are way shorter than you. They're three years old, and you say you're only two. How can a two-year-old be taller than three-year-olds, even taller than me?"
Cassie let out a sigh and dropped the bomb, "The reason I don't let you go to school is 'cause you're not really two. You're actually thirty-three, and you're like six or seven years older than me."
Joseph's head was spinning.
"You had an accident," Cassie pointed to her head, "Something got messed up in here, making you think you're only two. Next time, I'll show you what a real two-year-old looks like."
Joseph, still thinking he was just a toddler, stayed quiet.
There was no way he could accept this.
"Cassie, am I really that old?" he asked, all distressed.
"No, you're not old." Cassie touched his face, "You look great. A guy your age is at his prime. If you read more and learn to make money, you'll be even more attractive."
Joseph was initially shocked and bummed out, but her words made him feel all warm inside, "Okay, I'll study hard. I wanna learn to make money and take care of you."
"Alright, when the teacher comes this afternoon, are you gonna throw a fit?" Cassie asked gently.
Joseph shook his head obediently, "I'll listen to you."
"Good, now go downstairs for lunch." Cassie smiled softly.
Downstairs, Mabel and Cameron were stunned to see the suddenly well-behaved Joseph.
"Cassie, you really know how to handle him." Mabel quickly pulled Cassie aside when Joseph went to grab a drink.
"Auntie, I already told Joseph his real age," Cassie admitted.
Mabel was shocked, "He accepted it? He wasn't upset?"
"We can't keep it from him forever. Besides, he's not dumb. He would've figured it out eventually." Cassie shrugged, "His mental strength and ability to accept things are stronger than we thought. We can't treat him like Sophia and Oliver."
"You really know how to handle him. I'm not a good mom and I don't have much experience with this," Mabel said, feeling embarrassed.
Joseph had never been taken care of by her, and Liam was always with a nanny. She really didn't get kids.
Cassie was speechless. Mabel and Cameron had two kids and still lacked experience. Cassie had nothing to say about them. It was tough for Joseph and Liam to grow up on their own.
In the afternoon, the teacher showed up.
Joseph didn't cause any trouble and sat in the study room, seriously hitting the books.
Everyone was super pleased to see this.
After teaching for two hours, the teacher came downstairs and told Cassie with a big smile, "His memory is amazing. Maybe he still remembers stuff he learned before. I only need to say it once, and he gets it. It's incredible."
Cassie just kept quiet.
Joseph was killing it.
After dinner, Cassie brought in a university professor who was a whiz at financial management.
When the professor left, he was all smiles, "With Joseph's learning speed, I bet I can teach him everything I know in a week."
"That's awesome, thanks, Professor." Cassie saw him out.
Back in the room, she heard Joseph bragging to Sophia and Oliver, "Those lessons were a piece of cake. You two are so childish. I got it all in two minutes."
Sophia didn't care much.
But Oliver? He looked like he was about to chuck his textbook at Joseph's face.
"Alright, stop showing off to Oliver and Sophia," Cassie said, shaking her head, "You already knew that stuff. When the teacher taught you, it just clicked faster."
"Yeah, nothing to brag about," Sophia chimed in, "You're so old and still comparing yourself to us three-year-olds. It's pathetic."
"You!" Joseph's face turned beet red, "I'm not pathetic."
"Yes, you are," Sophia teased, sticking her tongue out.
Joseph almost burst into tears from anger, but remembering his real age, he held it in.
Seeing this, Oliver's lips curled into a smirk.
"That's too much. You three are ganging up on me," Joseph said, looking super upset but trying hard to keep it together.
"Oh, whatever. I'm done arguing with you," Sophia finally relented and went back to her picture book.
That night, when Sophia and Oliver were asleep, Joseph leaned close to Cassie's ear and whispered in a husky, deep voice, "I love you."
His voice was already dreamy, and in the quiet of the night, Cassie felt her heart skip a beat.
"I learned it today," Joseph said, looking a bit shy.
"Thanks, I like it a lot."
Cassie turned around and buried her face in his chest.
Even though he didn't get the full meaning of those words, she felt all warm and fuzzy inside.
As for whether he'd fall for someone else in the future, that was a problem for another day.
She didn't want to overthink it now.
Besides, she believed that as such a charming woman, if she could make him fall in love once, she could do it again.
The next day.
After Joseph woke up, Cassie made him put on a black suit.
Once he had it on, Cassie gave him the once-over.
His body was still the same, and the suit gave him a certain vibe, but his childish eyes didn't quite match the look.
Finally, she picked out a pair of black-framed glasses.
After putting them on, Cassie was totally smitten.
She had seen plenty of guys in black-framed glasses, looking all old and boring, but Joseph was a whole different story. With his handsome face and glasses, he looked like he stepped out of a comic book.
Joseph was just too good-looking.
"Cassie, why are you staring at me like that?" Joseph felt awkward under her gaze, "You look like a cat that just saw a mouse."
