Chapter 1349 Eager to Find a New Romance

"What are y'all chatting about?" Laura was totally lost. "You guys got secrets behind my back now?"

"Bernice helped me out with something a while ago," Cassie kept it vague. She figured it was best not to spill the beans about who Bernice knew. "Let's just order."

The grub here was pretty bomb and unique.

When three gals get together, they can yak forever about clothes and hobbies.

"By the way, haven't heard a peep from Sarah lately. Did she get blacklisted or something? She and Lucas were supposed to get engaged, but now it's radio silence," Laura suddenly asked.

The room went dead quiet. Bernice flicked her long hair aside. "No clue. I haven't been around the office much lately."

"Maybe 'cause Sarah was hanging with Olivia a while back and ticked off Lucas," Cassie said. "I heard Joseph mention that before Olivia kicked the bucket, Sarah tried to play matchmaker and introduce Declan and Helen to Lucas's folks through Olivia."

Laura got it. "Oh, I see. Sarah wanted to show off to Lucas's parents that she knew big shots like the Wittelsbach family to make herself look good. But at that time, the Wittelsbach family was gunning for Joseph, who's Lucas's best bud. She really overstepped. Sarah was too smart for her own good."

"Yeah," Cassie chuckled. "Bernice, Lucas hasn't been bugging you, has he?"

"I skipped town from Whisperlyn City a while ago and haven't seen Lucas since," Bernice's eyes showed a flicker of resistance at the mention of Lucas.

"Looks like Lucas has lost interest in you," Laura grinned. "As long as he's not bothering you, it's all good. If you wanna date, I can hook you up with some top-notch guys—powerful, handsome ones."

"You've been on a matchmaking spree lately," Cassie said, amused.

"Haha, it's just that I can't find a new guy for myself right now. When I see quality dudes, I wanna set you guys up."

Just as Laura finished talking, her phone buzzed. It was Michael calling.

She lazily picked up, "What do you want?"

"Where are you? I'll come get you and take you home," Michael said.

"Do you know what time it is? It's 8 PM," Laura griped. "I'm still hanging with my friends."

"Do you know my daughter needs to be in bed by 9:30?"

Laura was speechless. She hadn't even figured out the baby's gender, but Michael was dead set it was a girl. "Your daughter is chilling in my belly all day. My belly is her bed. She can sleep whenever she wants."

"She'll be more comfy in a real bed," Michael gave Laura no room to argue. "You're with Cassie, right? If you don't come back, I'll call Cassie and get her to convince you. I'll also ask her if pregnant women should hit the sack early and not stay up late."

"You're nuts," Laura was about to lose it. She thought for a sec, glanced at the pile of stuff on the floor, and finally gave him the address.

"Is Michael nagging you to go home?" Cassie teased.

"Ugh, so annoying," Laura was full of frustration.

"Pregnant chicks should hit the sack early," Cassie checked the time and nodded. "Bernice will drop me off later. You can roll with Michael."

"Y'all gonna have a late-night snack without me?" Laura whined.

Cassie stifled a laugh and exchanged a look with Bernice, shaking her head. "Nah."

"When Michael's almost here, we'll bounce," Bernice suddenly checked the time and said. "If Michael sees me, he might blab to Lucas. I don't want any ties with him anymore."

"No sweat," Cassie agreed.

About twenty minutes later, Cassie and Bernice dipped out first.

Less than ten minutes after they left, Michael strolled in wearing a white suit.

Even though Laura saw Michael's mug every day, she couldn't help but gripe. She thought, 'It's just unfair for a dude to be better looking than me.'

"Why are you solo? Where's Cassie?" Michael glanced around the big room with three used plates. "You had dinner with three people tonight. Who was the other one? Laura, you wouldn't be out having dinner with a dude behind my back, would you?"

Laura shot him a look. "I wish, but I'm stuck with you. What guy would wanna have dinner with me?"

"What do you mean?" Michael frowned, not happy. "You that eager to find a new fling?"

"All I can say is, even if I wanted to, it's not like I could," Laura said, patting her swollen belly on purpose.

Michael glared at her, fuming.

Laura pretended not to notice. After all, he had come in with an attitude.

Michael's eyes hurt from glaring, and seeing Laura's lack of reaction, he glanced around and noticed the pile of new clothes on the floor. He snorted, "You bought so many clothes. Planning to doll up and snag a new guy after popping the baby out?"

Laura shot back, "You know me too well."

Michael was absolutely livid. Just the thought of her dressing up to catch other guys' eyes made him see red. "Laura, you're just dreaming!"

Saying this, he grabbed the pile of shopping bags on the floor.

"Michael, what are you doing?" Laura had a bad feeling.

Michael ignored her, picked up the bags, and walked out. A young, pretty waitress happened to walk by, and he handed the bags to her. "These are for you."

The waitress was stunned and thought, 'I've worked here long enough to recognize those bag brands. They are the priciest luxury brands in the mall. I even secretly checked them out; a single T-shirt costs seven or eight grand, not to mention these are all new fall items. And this guy is so good-looking, like a movie star. Could he possibly like me?'

The waitress's heart suddenly flipped.

"Bastard, how dare you give away my clothes?" Laura was furious. She stormed over to snatch her stuff back. "I paid for those. If you wanna impress a girl, buy your own."

"Laura, I'm telling you, even after you give birth, your waist will still be thick. You won't fit into these clothes. I'm doing you a favor by giving them away."

Michael's words hit Laura like a ton of bricks.
