Chapter 1129 Suppression

"Michael, what do you want from me? Can't you just let me have some peace?" Laura was on the edge of breaking down.

"Please don't be mad," Michael said softly, looking down. "I just want to apologize. I know it doesn't fix anything. I was a jerk. I messed up. I let you and our kid down."

"That's enough, Michael. I know what you're up to. You want to marry me to get back into the Jude family," Laura sneered. "Well, I would never marry you."

Michael was stunned; he had almost forgotten about that.

He had just seen her crying and blurted it out.

"I didn't mean that," Michael said as the elevator arrived.

Laura walked out immediately, and he followed her.

At the door, Laura turned back. "Michael, don't you think you're being fake? You don't love me; you just want back into the Jude family. Have you thought about how this is another betrayal? Can you stop using me? It hurts, and I'm tired."

Her voice was hoarse, and she looked exhausted, on the brink of collapse.

Michael's face burned with shame.

He admitted he had thought about pursuing her, not because he liked her, but because of the child and his desire to return to the Jude family.

Laura knew this well, especially after running into Benjamin. She was on the edge of losing control.

She continued, "Your family wants you back in the Jude family, but they're too proud to admit it. They're afraid of being laughed at and worried about my feelings, so they pushed you onto me. They want to make it work for you and let you be the child's father, but no one asked me how I feel about it."

Laura couldn't hold back her tears anymore. "Why am I always so unlucky, meeting bad men and always being forced?"

She finished, opened the door, walked in, and slammed it shut.

Michael stood at the door.

His throat was choked, feeling like it was stuck with a fishbone.

Others might not understand Laura's feelings, but he did, as he had been deeply hurt before too.

He sat down at the door, his mind filled with Laura's tears.

Those tears filled his chest, making it feel heavy and blocked.

He didn't know how long he sat there until Lucas called. "Did you catch up with Laura?"

"Lucas," Michael's tone was heavy. "I think you were too harsh on Laura tonight. After all, she's the mother of my child."

Lucas was silent, thinking, 'I was harsh with Bernice, but not with Laura. I've been the one pushed around by Laura the whole time.'

Michael continued, "Didn't you used to praise her? Look at yourself, what did you say tonight? You were like a porcupine, pricking everyone."

"I'm a porcupine?" Lucas was speechless. He regretted making this call.

"Yes, she was crying the whole time after she left," Michael said gloomily, "I've never seen her cry like that before."

"Was it that serious? Did you make her cry?" Lucas was puzzled. He didn't recall saying anything that harsh to Laura.

"When I saw her, she was already crying," Michael said sadly. "In court, I overheard her talking to Bernice. She seemed like a big fan. Maybe meeting her idol today was a big deal, and you ruined it."

"I think she really likes Bernice. Can you ask Bernice to reach out to her?" Michael pleaded. "Let them be friends, make her happy, and fulfill her wish of meeting her idol."

Lucas's mouth twitched. "Why should I do that? I'm not even close to Laura."

"Lucas, the child she's carrying is mine, and you're the godfather," Michael said quickly.

"I don't want to be the godfather of your child," Lucas said dismissively.

"Lucas, this is my only child. Are you my friend or not?" Michael sighed. "I treated her badly before, and I want to make it up to her. Please help me."

"Fine. I'll talk to Bernice," Lucas finally agreed and hung up quickly.

Michael hadn't finished speaking, but he put down his phone in frustration and continued sitting at the door.

Inside, after calming down, Laura took out the business card Benjamin had given her.

It was time to settle old scores with Isla.

The next morning, when Laura woke up, Brandi Cook came out with breakfast. "Ms. Miller, I saw Mr. Jude outside when I took out the trash. He was sitting there all night."

Laura was surprised Michael had stayed outside all night.

"I know you don't get along with him, so I didn't let him in," Brandi said hesitantly. "But it's not good for him to stay outside."

"Let him in," Laura said after a moment of hesitation.

When Brandi brought Michael in, he glanced cautiously at Laura, who was sitting at the dining table in a loose pink nightgown, having breakfast.

There was a lot of food on the table, and it made his stomach growl.

However, since Laura didn't say anything, Michael didn't dare to approach, mainly because he was afraid of making her cry again.

He was really afraid of Laura crying.

"Sit down, please," Laura said, seeing him standing there. It was rare to see him so obedient, and a hint of surprise flashed in her eyes.

Michael sat down across from her. "Laura, last night..."

"Michael, I can give you a chance. Although I still can't accept you, at least we can resolve some of our issues," Laura suddenly interrupted him.

Michael was stunned for a few seconds, then a look of surprise appeared on his face. "Alright."

Laura handed him a business card. "The Hayes Group, a food company from Silverwood, recently opened a branch in Whisperlyn City. I want you to suppress their development."

Michael saw the name "CEO Benjamin" on the card.

Although Michael had been kicked out of the Jude family, he had been in Whisperlyn City for decades. Dealing with an out-of-town company was easy. However, he had a hunch that Laura and Benjamin might have a close relationship.
