Chapter 1267: I Want Cassie to Like Me
Michael nodded, thinking hard. "Alright, I'll show Joseph how to date girls, and soon enough, you'll be dating him."
Cassie stayed quiet.
Laura scoffed, "With his two-year-old brain, he basically sees Cassie as a grandma. You think he's gonna date a grandma?"
Laura kept going, "And you've been single for thirty years. You think you can teach him how to date? Give me a break."
Michael snapped, "Laura, if you can't say something nice, just zip it."
Laura shot him a look, "You can't get mad just 'cause I'm spitting facts. A man should be more chill."
Michael glanced at her big belly, took a deep breath, and finally kept his mouth shut.
Michael pulled out his phone and opened a game. He leaned in towards Joseph, "Hey, Joey, let me show you how to play this game."
Joseph frowned, "My name's not Joey."
"Oh, my bad. How about I call you Joey?" Michael grinned, "Cartoons are lame; this game is way cooler."
Before he could finish, Lucas snatched his phone away.
"Lucas, what the heck?" Michael whined, "He's not really a little kid. What's the harm in playing a game?"
"Instead of wasting time on games, he should be reading books, watching TV, and learning new words. He needs to boost that two-year-old brain of his," Lucas shot back. "Look at you, I suggest you stay out of your kid's education when they're born. Your wife is right; just forget it."
"Did you hear that? Even your buddy agrees with me," Laura said smugly, not caring that Lucas called her "your wife."
Michael pouted and put his phone away.
Luckily, Joseph wasn't interested and quickly got sucked back into the cartoon.
Michael and Laura hung around for another half hour before leaving.
Cassie saw them out.
"By the way, Declan talked to my uncle today," Michael suddenly said. "No clue what they chatted about."
Cassie was shocked but quickly got it. After all, the worst had already happened, and she had nothing to lose.
"Mr. Nelson, can you help me find Megan?" Cassie asked. "Even if I can't prove she's involved, I don't want her getting off easy."
"She went to Austin for some psychologist forum," Lucas said.
"How convenient," Laura said.
"She's just hiding," Cassie sneered. "We'll deal with Megan when she gets back. I doubt she'll stay away forever. Mr. Jude, if you want to save her, then we're enemies."
"I cut ties with her ages ago. Joseph's my good friend, and seeing him like this sucks. I won't help her anymore," Michael quickly distanced himself.
Laura glared at him, "If you help Megan again, I'll ruin your reproductive organs."
"Are you nuts?" Michael shivered. He could tell she wasn't joking by the look in her eyes.
In the afternoon, after Cassie took Joseph for a bunch of tests, they got back to the ward, and it was already evening.
Mabel showed up with food, bringing Sophia and Oliver along.
Sophia and Oliver plopped down on the bed and joined Joseph for dinner.
"Joey, check it out, this is how you hold the spoon," Sophia said, playing teacher. "Don't spill the food."
Right after she said that, Joseph spilled the food all over the table.
"Clumsy," Sophia scolded, sounding just like Oliver when he used to get annoyed with her.
Joseph blinked, then pouted and started crying, "Cassie, I'm not clumsy."
"Okay, okay, you're not clumsy. Joey's the smartest," Cassie quickly hugged his big head and shot Sophia a look.
"Mom, you used to teach me like this, and I got it right away," Sophia pouted.
"Are you sure you got it right away?" Oliver teased.
Sophia huffed, "Anyway, seeing Dad like this, it's my job to teach him."
Cassie sighed, "Alright, you guys hurry up and eat. I'll feed him."
She picked up the bowl and fed Joseph a spoonful.
Sophia felt wronged, "Mom, when I was two, you made me eat by myself."
Oliver glanced at her, "That's her husband. She feels sorry for him. Don't butt in."
Sophia grumbled, "I get it now. In Mom's heart, Dad's more important than me."
Cassie stayed quiet.
She really couldn't believe Sophia was actually jealous of Joseph.
"Alright, you guys finish up and head back to the estate with Grandma. Don't forget school tomorrow," Cassie said, sounding tired.
After the kids finished their meal, Sophia grabbed a box of chocolates from the table, "Mom, these are bad for teeth. I'll take them. They take up too much space here."
Seeing this, Joseph started crying again, "No, no, Cassie, she's taking my candy."
Sophia said seriously, "Joey, if you eat too much, your teeth will get cavities, and you'll look ugly. Your teeth will hurt, and your stomach will be full of worms. Cassie won't like you anymore."
"I want Cassie to like me."
Joseph was so scared he froze, with tears hanging on his eyelashes. He looked so pitiful that Cassie's heart almost melted.
"Sophia, you can only take one chocolate. These were given by your dad's friend," Cassie said to Sophia with a smile. "Don't scare him. He's an adult, so eating some chocolate is fine."
Sophia stomped her foot, "Mom, you're spoiling him."
"Alright, alright, your dad is still sick. Grandma will buy you some," Mabel said, quickly picking up Sophia.
Cassie had a headache, "Mabel, please buy her less candy."
"Mom, don't worry. I'll take care of my sister," Oliver said seriously.
"Thanks, Oliver," Cassie said gratefully. At least Oliver was sensible.
The ward quieted down, and Joseph suddenly mumbled, "Cassie, I don't like that Sophia."
Cassie felt helplessand thought, 'Joseph, that's your daughter.'
"Joey, Sophia's right. You can eat chocolate, but not too much. If you eat too much, you'll get chubby, and you won't be as handsome as you are now. I like handsome adult men," Cassie said seriously.
Joseph froze, looking troubled, "But I'm not an adult man. I'm still a baby."
