Chapter 530

"I understand," Megan affirmed, her smile a beacon of agreement.

No sooner had Joseph departed, his back to her as he walked away, than Megan's radiant countenance fell into shadow. She found herself alone, an unfamiliar sensation that had not been part of their past interactions. It dawned on her that she had underestimated the significance of the less attractive woman in Joseph's life, and that a change of strategy was necessary.

Exiting the bar, Liam readied himself to depart. However, Cassie's voice halted him, her words of gratitude followed by an invitation to supper.

Cassie had been away for quite some time, and the tantalizing aroma of meat wafting from a nearby eatery stirred her appetite.

"Supper, again?" Joseph's brow furrowed in disapproval. "Return with me."

"I knew you wouldn't agree, hence the lack of an invitation. If you wish to leave, then do so." With a dismissive wave, Cassie beckoned Liam, and together they strolled away.

Casting a glance over his shoulder at the visibly irate Joseph, Liam's eyebrow arched in satisfaction. 'I may not rival you in business, but I can certainly outmaneuver you in matters of the heart,' he mused.

Joseph's anger was palpable. " Cassie, it was acceptable when you ate before. But now you're pregnant, you should take care of the children."

"Joseph, you're mistaken. Who said pregnant women can't enjoy grilled meat? Moderation is key." Liam's wink was accompanied by a sly grin.

Cassie nodded in fervent agreement. If not for her condition, she would have indulged in a few bottles of beer.

Growing weary of her monotonous existence, Cassie vented her frustration. "Soup, day in and day out. If you refuse to dine out, so be it. But now that I'm here, you still wish to control me. I will eat tonight."

"Joseph, if you're not hungry, feel free to leave." Liam's grin remained intact.

Joseph suppressed the urge to plant his foot firmly in Liam's smug face. With a frosty expression, he trailed behind them.

Upon taking a seat at the bustling food stall, Joseph's distaste for the noisy environment was evident in his furrowed brow.

Cassie placed their order and handed it to Liam.

Liam, in turn, ordered a few dishes and passed them directly to the vendor. He taunted Joseph, "I won't bother showing you. You wouldn't deign to eat food from such a place."

Joseph was at a loss for words. He found the environment unclean, but he couldn't bear to disappoint Cassie.

Rising from his seat, Joseph approached the barbecue grill. "Have these dishes been cleaned?" He questioned the vendor.

"My wife has washed them thoroughly. They're spotless," the vendor assured him with a smile.

Joseph remained skeptical. "I find that hard to believe. I've seen reports. Small establishments like this merely rinse their vegetables."

The vendor was taken aback. Was this man here to cause trouble? If not for Joseph's imposing stature and distinguished demeanor, he would have asked him to leave.

"If you don't trust me, perhaps you should dine elsewhere," the vendor suggested.

"No need. I'll rinse the food my wife ordered myself." Joseph collected the items Cassie had chosen and meticulously washed them with clean water.

"Do you plan to clean everything? There's more that your friend ordered," the vendor grumbled through clenched teeth.

"No need. Serve him the dirtiest roasted dish he ordered," Joseph retorted.

The vendor fell silent once more. Who were these people, with their twisted minds?

Joseph returned to his seat with a calm demeanor. "Darling, I personally cleaned the food you ordered. I assure you it's immaculate."

Cassie was left speechless. She rested a hand on her stomach, whispering to her unborn children, "Babies, you have much to be thankful for."

Liam chuckled, his words laced with insinuation. "I hope your future children won't be born out of wedlock. But rest assured, Uncle will take good care of you."
