Chapter 896
Cassie nodded, responding that she thought the same.
nbsp;
At eight-thirty in the morning, a trial officially began.
nbsp;
Spencer was brought out. He had been in the hospital for the past few days, healing from his injuries. Though he had improved somewhat, he still walked with a limp, and his fingers were wrapped in thick bandages.
nbsp;
Peter's face changed, and he was about to stand up when Cassie pressed his shoulder and gave him a look.
nbsp;
Peter gritted his teeth and sat back down.
nbsp;
The judge glanced at everyone, knocked the gavel, and announced the opening of the court. nbsp;"The plaintiff, Megan nbsp;Ray, accuses Spencer of kidnapping Miss Ray on the twenty-eighth of this month. Does the defendant have anything to say?"
nbsp;
Thomas coughed and stood up under the strange and intense gazes of the crowd. nbsp;"Your honor, my name is Thomas, and I appear with my learned junior, Spencer, for the appellant in this matter. Spencer is the defendant in this case, and I am representing him as his nbsp;counsel. nbsp;The defendant pleads not guilty. The defendant was framed."
nbsp;
Joseph stood up, his handsome and delicate features extremely cold. nbsp;"My name is Joseph nbsp;Hernandez, and I appear with my learned junior, Megan, for the appellant in this matter. Megan is the plaintiff in this case, and I am representing her as her counsel. Your honor, these are the testimonies of the three witnesses who were present at the scene. All of them witnessed Spencer attempting to assault Megan Ray. If we hadn't intervened, the consequences would have been unimaginable. Would the defense counsel like to respond?"
nbsp;
The judge looked at the testimonies and nodded. nbsp;"This indeed is conclusive evidence."
nbsp;
Thomas hurriedly said, "The defendant is being framed. We have evidence. Your honor, my client states that on the night before the incident, he was alone in his apartment and ordered takeout. After consuming the meal, he passed out and later woke up in the cave. We checked the surveillance in Spencer's apartment as he claimed, but coincidentally, all footage within half an hour after the delivery was missing."
nbsp;
Joseph sneered, "It could also be you who deleted it on purpose."
nbsp;
"We have evidence," nbsp;Thomas stated.
nbsp;
Thomas submitted a piece of video surveillance, "This is video footage from the dashcam of a car parked in the parking lot downstairs. During the period of eight twenty in the afternoon on the twenty-eighth, two people were seen carrying a large bag through the parking lot, one of whom was the delivery person my client mentioned."
nbsp;
The court staff played the surveillance. In the dimly lit parking lot, two suspicious-looking people were seen carrying a large bag into the trunk.
nbsp;
Thomas stated, "This large bag is sufficiently large to contain our client."
nbsp;
Joseph narrowed his eyes slightly. Beside him, Megan's eyes flashed with a hint of panic, and she instinctively grabbed Joseph's arm.
nbsp;
"Joseph, are we going to lose?" nbsp;she then asked.
nbsp;
Joseph patted her hand, stood up unhurriedly, and said, "That is nbsp;absurd. You claim that the bag contained a person, but this is merely your speculation. There is no direct evidence to prove it."
nbsp;
The judge nodded. nbsp;"I agree. Defendant's lawyer, do you have any other evidence?"
nbsp;
"Yes, plenty." Thomas nodded. nbsp;"We found several local farmers near the cave. Witnesses claimed that in the early hours of that day, two suspicious-looking people were seen heading into the mountains, with Miss Megan following them. She was not kidnapped."
nbsp;
"You're lying." Megan stood up angrily and indignantly. nbsp;"This is too much. I am clearly the victim, yet you slander me like this."
nbsp;
"Plaintiff, be quiet." The judge knocked the gavel and frowned, warning Thomas. nbsp;"Defendant's lawyer, do you have sufficient evidence to support nbsp;these claims?"
