Chapter 1431 Agree to Divorce

"Do you really have to go this far?"

Michael was losing it over Laura's expression. "Just 'cause I helped Megan, you hate me? Seriously, I'm your husband."

Michael yelled, not sure if it was his own anxiety or just flat-out denial. In a matter of days, their relationship had nosedived from bliss to disaster.

"Just stop talking," Laura shot back, sarcasm dripping from her eyes. "When we found Megan in the apartment the other day, that was your last shot, but you blew it. You just held Megan and blamed me. From that moment, we were done."

Michael was floored.

So she had already made up her mind to divorce that day.

He stupidly thought she was just mad for a bit.

"Is this really necessary?" he mumbled, struggling to accept it, but his words came out harsh.

"Shut up," Eric snapped at him. He was about to lose it with Michael. How many dumb things had he done without even realizing it?

After Eric spoke, he turned to Laura. "Laura, if you want a divorce, we can't make you stay. But after Maeve was born, I gave her ten percent of the Jude Group's shares. Maeve is the only kid in her generation in the Jude Family. Maeve has to stay with the Jude Family."

Laura felt a chill run down her spine. Her worst fear was coming true. "I have to take Maeve with me. You can have the Jude Family shares back. Eric, I carried Maeve for nine months and gave birth to her. I can't leave her with Michael. If he ends up marrying Megan, she won't treat Maeve well. You can't stop that. Maybe Maeve can be looked after by her grandparents, but she can't be without her mom. Plus, Maeve still needs to be breastfed."

Michael wanted to say that Megan wasn't that bad, but given the tension, he kept his mouth shut.

Michael wasn't dumb. He could see that Eric was trying to use Maeve to keep Laura around.

Eric sneered, "I won't let Megan marry into the Jude Family."

Laura sneered right back, calm as ever, "You also told Michael not to be with Megan, but did he listen?"

Eric was left speechless, his face turning serious. "Laura, do you have to argue with me? Can't you trust me one more time?"

"Eric, over the years, I've been hurt so badly by Megan and Nathan. Nathan tried to rape me. I was beaten, humiliated, forced to get pregnant, and had to get engaged to Michael. Even after our engagement, Michael was still with Megan. I was mocked and forced into marriage. I really don't want Megan in my life anymore. I have a natural aversion to her. I'm no match for Megan."

Laura spoke plainly, "I'm also not the person who can keep Michael for you anymore. Now that the Jude Family is stable, I'm exhausted. I can't hold on any longer. You wouldn't want me to one day, unable to suppress my hatred, wake up and stab Michael to death."

Laura finished speaking and laughed like a madwoman, her eyes even turning red.

Michael was terrified. "Laura, don't be like that. Why would you want to stab me? Don't you have any feelings for me? We were so happy together before. Have you forgotten all that?"

"That's my biggest regret," Laura said, her voice flat.

"You..." Michael's eyes flared with anger. He lunged forward, wanting to grab her shoulders and shake some sense into her.

But Derek stepped in, blocking him. "Her mind's made up. If it wasn't, Violet and I wouldn't be here. Trying to convince her is pointless. It's better to discuss the divorce properly."

"No way. If you want a divorce, you'll have to kill me first." Michael kicked over the table in front of him, shot Laura a furious glare, and stormed out.

The room fell silent. After a long pause, Caroline spoke up, her voice strained, "Michael's gone. Let's talk about the marriage another day."

"I don't want to drag this out," Laura said, her tone still flat. "Just give me an answer. Do you agree to the divorce or not? If you do, please talk to Michael. I really don't want to continue this marriage."

Eric's face darkened.

If they divorced, what if Michael really married Megan?

If they didn't divorce, what if Laura went off the deep end and tried to kill Michael?

Violet finally spoke up, "Carl and I have talked it over. The Jude Family is stable now, and Laura has done a lot for us. We can't ignore her feelings forever. You and I both know Megan isn't a simple person. You couldn't handle her either. If we force Laura to face Megan, what if she develops depression?"

"Even if Laura and Michael divorce, Laura is still my goddaughter. I've talked it over with her. After the divorce, she'll move into the Presidential Palace. If you miss Maeve, you can visit anytime."

Violet paused, her tone growing more serious. "Besides, with Michael not here, I can say this. Do you really think Megan will leave quietly? Megan's got several lives on her hands. She kills without leaving any evidence. She should stay far away from Michael."

Violet, as the First Lady, had a knack for cutting to the chase.

After a long silence, Eric sighed deeply. "Alright, I won't stop it. Caroline, James, go talk to Michael. Since he can't let go of Megan, he shouldn't cling to Laura."

"Alright," Caroline said sadly. She was truly reluctant to let Laura go.

At the same time, she was annoyed at the thought of Megan marrying into the family.

"Laura, although we agree to the divorce, you must bring Maeve over often," Caroline said, holding Laura's hand.

"Don't worry. Whenever you miss Maeve, you can bring her here. You are all Maeve's grandparents. I also hope Maeve has a close relationship with you."

Laura's words were kind. Despite the unpleasantness, she didn't want to offend the Jude Family.

Leaving the Jude estate, Laura felt a weight lift off her shoulders.

She leaned back, smiling with relief.

Derek watched her curiously. "After all, you and Michael were together for a while. Don't you feel any sadness?"

"If Megan hadn't shown up, I might feel sad," Laura shrugged. "But now, I only feel anger towards him. I even feel like a fool."
