Chapter 259

""I curse you to be a laughingstock for the rest of your life!""

Noah said irritably, ""Laura, look carefully. It's me. I’m Noah.""

Laura tilted her head. ""Is this because you've fallen for my charms and now you want to kidnap me?""

Noah was speechless. He pointed to the front and said, ""You know Joseph, right? Cassie's boyfriend?""

Laura looked over, dazed, but her eyes lit up upon recognition. ""Ah, so it's Joseph. Hey there!""

Joseph massaged his forehead again.

Laura waved her hand with a silly grin. ""When Cassie and I hit the bar, we spotted you right away.""

Joseph's brow furrowed, and he spoke in a husky voice, ""Spotted me for what?""

Laura was completely wasted. ""Oops, my bad! I got it mixed up. It's my fault, I've messed things up for Cassie.""

A chill settled in Joseph's eyes, and Noah swallowed hard. They could sense that they might have stumbled upon some dire secret.

""How did you get it wrong?"" Joseph asked, his voice softer as he struggled to keep it gentle.
Laura wore a ditzy expression before she began to mumble, ""Be nice to our Cassie. Don't be mad at her, okay? I pushed her to slip something into your drink. It really wasn't Cassie's fault.""

Her words slurred as she dozed off against the door.

Inside the car, whether it was Walter driving or Noah in the back, they could all feel the temperature plunge inside the car.

After driving for five minutes, Joseph suddenly spoke up, ""Pull over.""

""Joseph,"" Noah said, a hint of concern in his voice, ""it's getting late.""

""I need some time alone to think. You guys take her home,"" Joseph commanded with an unyielding tone.

Reluctantly, Walter stopped the car. Joseph stepped out, closed the door behind him, and began to walk alone by the roadside.

Noah let out a sigh. Laura's words might have been incoherent, but he had a hunch about what was going on.

He could only marvel at the size of this misunderstanding and felt sorry for Joseph.

Back at the house.

Cassie checked the time once more. It was half past twelve, and Joseph still hadn't returned.

He couldn't be out drinking too much again, could he?

She really didn't want to care or deal with him, but she couldn't control her heart.

Without him, she simply couldn't sleep.

Suddenly, the sound of the front door opening came from downstairs.

She hurriedly lay down and pretended to be asleep.

Minutes later, the bedroom door opened and footsteps approached the bed; she felt him stop beside her.

Her heart tightened slightly."
