Chapter 392

"Truly, it's no concern. I steer this company with my skill, not my beauty," Cassie quipped, swiftly shifting the conversation to a more professional tone. "Now, let's review the status of our nationwide projects..."

An hour slipped by, and the meeting drew to a close.

Upon returning to her office, Cassie discovered an invitation resting on her desk. She lifted it, revealing an invitation to an engagement party hosted by Luna and Felix, scheduled for the following day at the Grand Pavilion Intercontinental Hotel.

Cassie found herself questioning Luna's motives for extending such an invitation.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a call from an unfamiliar number. "Sis, have you received my invitation?"

"Refrain from calling me 'sis.' I don’t claim a sister who attempts to snatch my husband under the guise of a mistress," Cassie retorted, her confidence bolstered by her marriage certificate.

"Who's the shameless one here? Who's the true mistress?" Luna's words were sharp, causing Cassie to take a deep breath to regain her composure.

"Well, I've finally found my happiness. Regardless, you're still Dad's daughter. Blood ties are unchangeable. Your little sister is getting engaged, and I trust you'll attend, won't you?"

"Given your heartfelt invitation, I'll certainly be there."

Luna was taken aback by the swift acceptance and hesitated. "You're most welcome. Oh, and I heard about your little facial mishap, sis. Do remember to bring a veil tomorrow, we wouldn't want to frighten the guests. I'll be expecting you."

She ended the call with a soft chuckle.

Cassie understood the underlying message – this was an invitation to be ridiculed. However, when it came to people she held no regard for, she was indifferent to their opinions about her appearance.

Tomorrow, we'll see who has the last laugh.

---

At the end of the workday, Joe arrived to collect her in his car.

"Joseph had to work late tonight, so he couldn't come to fetch you."

He provided an explanation as she settled into the back seat.

Cassie blinked, suddenly aware that she knew little about Joseph's current business ventures, despite knowing he must have other investments following his departure from the presidency of Hernandez's Group.

"Which company is keeping him late?"

Joe's gaze flickered slightly, and he fell into a moment of silence.

"If you'd rather not disclose, that's fine," Cassie said with a casual smile, "I was merely curious."

Despite her nonchalant tone, a wave of unease washed over her. Perhaps it was the tenderness of his confession during her hospital stay that had softened her heart, and now, knowing they hadn't divorced, she couldn't help but harbor some hope for Joseph.

It's just how women are sometimes – a little sweet talk, and you start to feel special.

Joe frowned in frustration. "It’s not that Joseph wants to hide it from you, I was just concerned mentioning the name might cause you to overthink."

Cassie had a moment of realization. "Could it be... related to someone named Megan Ray?"

Joe sighed, "Ma'am, your astuteness truly gives me a headache."

So, it was true.

Was that woman so significant to him that he even named the company after her?

Despite Megan Ray being gone, Cassie still felt a tightness in her chest.

"The company is called Summer," Joe explained. "But it was founded five years ago, long before Joseph knew you. I believe if he were to start a new company now, he wouldn't choose that name."

"I understand," Cassie said, her gaze drifting to the window.

If Megan Ray were still alive, there would probably be no place for her in Joseph's heart.
