Chapter 1362 Seduction
Laura suddenly realized she was seriously lacking in the emotional smarts department. She was way behind Cassie in that area.
After Rose left, she nervously video-called Cassie. Cassie was chilling on the grass in a red dress, sipping wine and munching on snacks. Behind her was this massive green vineyard and a castle.
Laura was totally floored, "Where the heck are you? Feels like we're in different worlds. You look like some fancy medieval noblewoman."
Cassie almost spit out her wine, "It's not that crazy."
"Seriously." Laura was green with envy. She shouldn't have called Cassie; comparisons suck.
"I'm at Joseph's dad's winery." Cassie flipped the camera, showing Joseph playing with Sophia and Oliver on the grass. "Sophia and Oliver are loving it here; they're having a blast."
"I just realized making up with Joseph was a smart move. You've got someone to help with Sophia and Oliver, and you get to live in a castle and a winery. Life's pretty sweet." Laura sighed.
"Yeah." Cassie nodded and grinned, "I can totally milk Joseph for all he's worth without feeling bad."
"Cassie, I just realized your emotional intelligence is through the roof, and mine is in the basement, just like my mom says."
Laura echoed what Rose had told her.
Cassie wasn't shocked at all. The Miller Group wasn't much in Silverwood decades ago. It only got big after Luke married Rose. Sure, Luke was talented, but behind every successful guy, there's always a powerhouse woman.
"Laura, I think Rose is spot on. You and Michael have a kid together, so no need to keep things so tense. Plus, you can't just mooch off the Jude family forever without working. Didn't you say you wanted to start your own business? Relationships are key for that."
Cassie teased, "Actually, you and Michael are pretty alike. Both of you have sharp tongues, so you always clash. Sometimes, dealing with people is like looking in a mirror. How you treat the person in the mirror is how they'll treat you."
Laura suddenly got it and thought, 'Cassie's right. Michael and I are like two mirrors.'
After hanging up, Laura fell into deep thought.
She suddenly realized that despite everything she had been through, she still didn't quite get it. As she was lost in thought, the door suddenly opened. Michael walked in, holding his pillow. Laura immediately reminded herself to behave well after Rose's advice, but when Michael put his pillow on her bed, she couldn't help but ask, "What are you doing?"
"Of course, I'm sleeping here." Michael placed his pillow next to hers. "I need to take care of you and the baby at night. There's only one bed in the bedroom, so I'll have to squeeze in with you."
Laura took a deep breath and thought, 'Squeeze in? Isn't that jerk Michael always so infuriating? That's why I've become like this. But I can't be like before. I can't be hysterical. I need to be a woman with high emotional intelligence.'
Michael waited forever, expecting Laura to blow up and maybe even chuck a pillow at him. He was bracing for it. But to his surprise, after a long wait, Laura just stared at him blankly and said calmly, "You don't need to squeeze in. I can have the nanny help tonight."
"No way. I want to be hands-on with my own kid. I don't want to miss out on the sweet moments with Maeve," Michael said, totally shameless.
Laura smirked, "Yeah, right. You're so reluctant."
"I'm still willing to be reluctant," Michael said with a grin.
"But I don't want to force myself," Laura said calmly. "I'm not used to sharing a bed with a guy. You can take Maeve to your side to sleep. If she's hungry, bring her over to me."
"That's not cool either. You have the scent of breast milk. Maeve feels secure next to you." Michael was dead set on not leaving. This was his shot to sleep together in the future. Only an idiot would pass it up.
Michael sensed Laura's resistance and raised an eyebrow, "Don't worry. I'm not gonna try anything. The doc said that Maeve is super insecure right now. In a new place, it would be better if we both stayed with her. As a mom, you wouldn't be that heartless, right?"
He stared at her intently, as if to say, if you refuse, you're a heartless mom.
Laura was silent and thought, 'What else can I say? Michael's gonna drive me nuts sooner or later.'
"I'm gonna take a shower." Michael, seeing her silence, smugly headed to her bathroom.
Laura was furious, "Go shower in your own bathroom."
"Nope," Michael said as he swaggered in.
Hearing the water running inside, Laura was about to lose it.
Soon, the nanny came up with a set of clothes and a towel, placed them at the door, and left.
Laura opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but Maeve was hungry at that moment. So she didn't bother.
A few minutes later, the bathroom door opened.
She looked up and saw Michael walking out naked, unabashedly picking up the pajamas and towel by the bathroom door and going back in. Laura blinked, dumbfounded. Her mind was in chaos. She couldn't hear anything, only knowing she had just seen Michael naked. She felt like she had been shocked. Before she could recover, Michael came out after drying himself, wearing only black underwear. His hair was wet, and water droplets slid down his chest. She didn't expect Michael to have abs. And he looked incredibly seductive after a shower.
"How do I look? Not bad, right?" Michael walked up to her with a smug smile.
Laura was about to go crazy, "Are you insane? Why aren't you wearing clothes?"
"I'll put them on outside. It's too hot in the bathroom," Michael said as he put on his blue pajamas.
Laura took a deep breath, "Can you not shower here in the future? Even if you do, can you put on your clothes before coming out?"
"Why?" Michael shrugged, "Do I have to be so cautious in my own home? Rose won't come in."
