Chapter 900

"No, I nbsp;should apologize." Cassie's gaze fell on Spencer's broken finger, her eyes filled with deep guilt. "If it weren't for me, you wouldn't have been targeted."

nbsp;

"Isn't this quite normal? It's because of nbsp;my carelessness." Spencer smiled bitterly. "I noticed that when you played nbsp;the video earlier, the backs of those two kidnappers looked a lot like the ones who acted the night Rex died."

nbsp;

Cassie was taken aback. "It seems to be the same group of people. It's a pity we still haven't caught the person behind Megan."

nbsp;

"Take it slow." Spencer cried out in pain. "The wound hurts too much. I need to go to the hospital."

nbsp;

"Come back after you recover," Cassie reminded softly.

nbsp;

"Alright, Peter, you must protect Cassie nbsp;well. If anything happens to her, I'll make sure to teach you a lesson." After issuing his warning, Spencer left with the police.

nbsp;

Meanwhile, Joseph still sat expressionless in his chair, his gaze fixed in Cassie's direction.

nbsp;

Everyone thought Joseph cared about losing this case to an unknown lawyer, given his reputation as a legendary attorney.

nbsp;

But that wasn't it. Joseph had chances to win later on. With his eloquence, he could find reasons to counter any evidence.

nbsp;

However, when the evidence was presented, Joseph realized that Spencer might indeed have been framed.

nbsp;

Joseph could have investigated thoroughly from the start, but that day in the cave, he saw Spencer assaulting Megan, when they drove her to commit suicide, and he concluded everything from that.

nbsp;

Later, he found out Spencer was Cassie's subordinate, and, given their recent meeting at the bar, he believed Cassie was behind it.

nbsp;

Because Cassie had a motive, she hated Megan and him.

nbsp;

He had forgotten nbsp;to check the fingerprints in the car and he had forgotten nbsp;that there was no surveillance footage showing Spencer's face during the entire kidnapping process.

nbsp;

It was a conspiracy.

nbsp;

Maybe, as Thomas said, a conspiracy to completely destroy the budding relationship between him and Cassie.

nbsp;

It didn't have to come to this.

nbsp;

When did it start?

nbsp;

When Joseph cut off Spencer's finger?

nbsp;

When he personally took on nbsp;Megan's case?

nbsp;

Joel and Nathaniel had said that Cassie treated Spencer like family, yet nbsp;he personally cut off her family member's finger.

nbsp;

Nathaniel said that by taking Megan's case, he would push their relationship to the brink.

nbsp;

It was his ruthless actions that, step by step, pushed their relationship to the edge.

nbsp;

But he never intended to do these things. Megan wanted Spencer's finger, and Nathan said only he could win the case; otherwise, Spencer would go unpunished, so he agreed.

nbsp;

"Joseph, let's go," nbsp;Megan said.

nbsp;

Megan looked at him anxiously, his handsome face shifting from confusion to despair, then suddenly turning cold and sinister.

nbsp;

Megan reached out to grab Joseph's hand, but he avoided her touch.

nbsp;

Megan's body stiffened, and Nathaniel anxiously said, "Mr. Hernandez, why are you acting like this? Megan has suffered enough today, hasn't she?"

nbsp;

"Yes, she has suffered a lot." Joseph smiled.
