Chapter 1408 I Miss You So Much
All chicks dreamed about their big day.
And yeah, some folks will talk smack, but who cares about that?
Laura suddenly went quiet.
Michael was just as shocked. He glanced at Laura and felt a wave of guilt. "Alright, we should totally have a wedding."
"Let's get it done before the year's out," Eric chimed in, all excited. "Go big or go home; maybe rent a tiny island."
"Sure thing," Caroline agreed, grinning. "We'll have a chopper pick up the bride, and the dress has to be from the top designer."
James nodded, "Let's start planning tomorrow. Caroline's got this. We'll hire the best wedding crew. Laura, what kind of style are you into?"
Laura was taken aback for a sec. After a bit, she snapped out of it and said, "Honestly, something unique would be cool."
"Nice," Eric said, impressed. "Michael, you gotta nail this. There'll be tons of celebs and big shots at the wedding, and it has to be perfect. Plus, it's your and Laura's big day, a once-in-a-lifetime thing."
"I got it," Michael quickly nodded in agreement.
After dinner, Laura and Caroline were huddled together, scrolling through wedding pics on their phones.
For a no-expense-spared wedding, Laura chatted excitedly, "Mom, are we really gonna fly from Silverwood to the island for the wedding in the morning? Isn't that a bit much?"
"The flight's just over an hour. We'll make it so grand that everyone in Silverwood sees it and the women in Madison are green with envy," Caroline said with a smile. "Michael, don't you think I'm right?"
"Yeah, Mom's right," Michael nodded, thinking, 'Megan will see it too, and she'll be jealous.'
The better he treated Laura, the guiltier he felt about Megan.
Just as Megan crossed his mind, her call came through.
He tried to stay calm as he answered and walked into the dining room, "What's up?"
"Michael, can you come over? The power went out here, and I tripped and fell," Megan said weakly.
"Are you okay?" Michael was startled and quickly asked in a low voice.
"I think I twisted my ankle," Megan said softly.
"I'll send Magnus over first, and I'll come by later. Don't move."
"No," Megan said awkwardly. "I'm in my pajamas and hurt my leg. I can't move. Can you come over and bring me some clothes?"
Michael glanced at Laura in the living room, hesitated for a moment, and said, "Okay, I'll come over now."
After hanging up, he scrambled for an excuse and walked over to Laura, saying, "Babe, let the driver take you and Maeve home later. The guy I've been trying to meet, Cassius, just got back in town and is free tonight. I need to go."
Laura was a bit surprised, and Caroline asked, "Who's Cassius?"
"He's a whiz in lithium-ion tech. I wanna pick his brain," Michael said.
"Then go ahead. I'll have the driver take them home later," Caroline waved her hand and pulled Laura over. "Come on, let's keep going."
Laura nodded.
Michael let out a sigh of relief and sped over to Megan's place.
He unlocked the door and used his phone's flashlight to find Megan sprawled out in the living room. She was in a skimpy silk nightgown, and it was obvious she wasn't wearing anything underneath.
Michael, being young and full of energy, and having recently enjoyed the pleasures of sex, immediately felt a rush of blood.
He quickly looked away, grabbed a coat from the bedroom to cover her, and picked her up, realizing she was shivering from the cold. Megan instinctively snuggled into his arms.
Michael tensed up and quickly changed the subject, "Why are you dressed like this?"
"I always dress like this when I'm alone. There's heating here, so I wasn't cold. But when the power went out, the heating stopped," Megan said, trembling. "I think my leg might be broken. It hurts when I move."
Michael looked down and saw her ankle was swollen.
He quickly called a private doctor.
Before the doctor arrived, he checked the house and found it was just a tripped circuit breaker.
"So it was just a tripped breaker," Megan said, annoyed. "I'm so stupid. I thought there was a wiring problem."
"You girls not getting it is normal," Michael said, trying to reassure her.
Soon, the doctor arrived with a medical kit. After examining her, he said, "It's a sprain. It'll take a couple of weeks to heal. Don't move around during this time, and it's best to have someone take care of you."
Michael frowned. This was a bit of a hassle.
If he had to hire someone, it had to be someone he could completely trust.
"She seems to have a fever," the doctor suddenly said, feeling Megan's forehead.
"Why didn't you tell me you were feeling unwell?" Michael said, annoyed, touching her forehead. It was indeed very hot.
"I didn't expect to be so weak. It must have been from falling and getting cold," Megan said with a bitter smile. "I'm fine."
Hearing this, Michael felt even more guilty. He should have driven faster.
Or maybe he should have someone check on her every night. After all, he wasn't comfortable with a woman living alone.
After taking her temperature, he found out she had a fever of 102 degrees Fahrenheit.
After taking some medicine, Megan urged Michael to leave, "Alright, thank you for tonight. You should go back."
"How can I leave when you're like this? Go to sleep. I'll leave after your fever goes down."
Michael pulled up a chair and sat beside her.
Megan glanced at him and then fell asleep.
Michael, afraid of disturbing her, put his phone on silent and sent Laura a message on Facebook: [Go to bed early. I don't know how long I'll be talking with Cassius.]
Just after sending the message, Megan suddenly started moaning in her sleep.
Michael quickly changed the towel on her forehead. Megan suddenly grabbed his hand and murmured, "Michael, I miss you so much."
Michael felt even worse, torn between compassion and helplessness. "Don't be afraid, Megan, I'm here."
He gently comforted her, and Megan slowly calmed down but kept holding his hand.
