Chapter 937 Joey, Please
Joseph's handsome face softened upon hearing it. For the past week, no matter how hard he tried to please her, she always wore a cold, disdainful expression, as if she hated and loathed him.
Now, at least she was willing to change her dress and go for a walk on the beach with him. Did this mean she was slowly accepting reality?
"You go ahead," he gently instructed, then suddenly regretted not preparing more dresses for her.
He immediately called Nathaniel. "Send over more dresses, beach style, in my wife's size."
Nathaniel's mouth twitched. He thought, 'Your wife. How shameless. She is clearly David's wife.'
"Mr. Hernandez, could you come to the company when you have time?" Nathaniel said helplessly. "Recently, the Hernandez family has been constantly criticized. Matilda and Walter almost fell ill from anger. The Hernandez family members and shareholders come to the company every day to find me. The outside world is scolding us harshly, and the Hernandez family's stock is dropping daily."
"Stock prices rising and falling is normal," Joseph replied nonchalantly. "Have Lucas find more scandalous news about celebrities. Naturally, no one will remember this matter."
Nathaniel was very helpless. He thought, 'Won't this make things difficult for Lucas? No one could be more morally corrupt than you.'
"As for Matilda and Walter, if they ask, just say I'm giving the Hernandez family a grandson. So, no worries, as long as there's enough money, it's enough. Don't bother with those shareholders, either. The Hernandez family listens to me. If they're unhappy, they can leave." Joseph hung up the phone.
Looking up, he saw Cassie coming down the stairs in a red polka-dot long dress. Her face was bare, but her beautiful little face and snow-white skin made her look as enchanting as a little fairy.
Joseph stepped forward, wrapped his arm around her slender waist, and said hoarsely, "You look stunning."
Cassie immediately felt his change; her body tensed. She seriously suspected this man was a beast. She had just changed her dress; it wasn't that big of a deal.
"Your skin never seems to tan," Joseph said, caressing her fragrant shoulder. Although they had gone out little in the past few days, the beach sun was always harsh. He had tanned a bit, but she remained as white as ever.
Cassie kept her head down and didn't respond.
Joseph didn't mind, and he just held her as they walked out of the estate. The beach here was very clean. Cassie looked into the distance. If Joseph hadn't brought her here by force, this would actually be a nice vacation spot.
"I'm tired," she said after walking for a while, sitting under a coconut tree by the sea. "I'm so thirsty. I want to drink coconut water."
"Alright." Joseph was overjoyed to hear her make a request. "Wait here, I'll get it for you."
He wasn't worried at all that Cassie would try to escape. After all, they were surrounded by the vast sea with no boats, and there wasn't even a stranger on the island.
After he left, Cassie got up and climbed onto a rock by the sea. On the rock, she deliberately scraped her wound. When she saw Joseph coming back, she pretended to slip and fell into the sea.
"Cassie!" Joseph saw the scene and was startled. He rushed into the sea without hesitation, swam over, and quickly pulled her out of the water. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine," Cassie frowned and then cried out in pain.
Joseph hurriedly carried her ashore and checked her injuries. He found that the back of her thigh was completely scraped, and there was a rather deep cut from a sharp rock.
"I'll take you back to bandage it," Joseph said, lifting her in his arms and running back to the estate.
The butler quickly brought a doctor, and because the wound was deep, she needed an injection to prevent infection.
Cassie endured it all, thinking that as long as Joseph didn't find out, this pain was nothing.
Joseph, however, felt both heartache and guilt. "From now on, I won't leave your side for a moment when we're at the beach to prevent you from doing anything dangerous again."
Cassie remained silent. After all, she lived like a prisoner every day, and it didn't matter whether he watched her or not.
That evening, Cassie sat on the balcony sofa, lost in thought. It wasn't very interesting here. She couldn't use a phone, watch TV, go shopping, or meet anyone she knew. Apart from occasionally reading a book, all she could do was daydream.
"Are you bored?" Joseph asked as he came out of the shower, seeing her gloomy look, which pained him. "If you're bored, then sleep with me."
He picked her up and placed her on the bed, reaching to undo her nightgown. Cassie knew what he wanted and instinctively resisted.
"Joseph, my leg is injured. It hurts. Can't you leave me alone?" she said.
A flash of guilt crossed Joseph's eyes, but he steeled himself. "I asked the doctor. The days right after a woman's period are the easiest to get pregnant. I can't miss these days. But don't worry, I won't touch your wound."
With that, he kissed her dominantly yet gently. Cassie couldn't fight him off even when she wasn't injured, and now, with her injury, she was completely helpless. She knew this man was determined. Although she had passed the most fertile days, it still wasn't entirely safe.
The thought of possibly carrying his child in the future filled her with fear.
"Joey, please, don't do this to me," she suddenly pleaded, grabbing his arm.
Joseph's body stiffened. She had never called him that in his memory, but hearing it from her lips felt inexplicably familiar as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
"Cassie, you can blame me or hate me; it doesn't matter. I just want you to carry my child," he said, kissing her lips sorrowfully yet resolutely over and over. "I swear, I will treat you and the baby well in the future."
He thought, 'Cassie, I'm sorry. I just don't know how else to keep you. I admit I'm despicable, but without you, I would go mad sooner or later.'
Meanwhile, in a café in Whisperlyn City, Liam walked in from the entrance.
"Liam, your father is waiting for you upstairs," the waiter said, leading him to the third floor.
Liam pushed the door open and found Marcus, Felix, and his second uncle, Larry Chamberlain.
"Dad, I thought you were the only one here. Turns out Larry and Felix are here too," Liam said, feeling a bit strange but still finding a chair to sit down. "Dad, is there something you wanted to know?"
Marcus seemed not to hear him, focusing intently on his coffee. Larry and Felix exchanged a glance, and then Larry smiled. "Any news about Joseph?"
"I don't know. He hasn't contacted us." Liam frowned. "Larry, if you have something to say, just say it."
