Chapter 1300 Do You Admire Him?
Declan's lawyer stepped up and said, "Yo, the cash Olivia used to snag the Hernandez Group? All from Mrs. Wittelsbach's bank. If you wanna take over, we'll hit up the court to freeze those shares."
"You can't do that!" Robert blurted out, all jittery. "Isabella gave that money. Let me talk to her."
"She's in the hospital, and I'm her hubby. I got the right to claim our stuff."
Declan kicked back in his leather chair. "Plus, I got a hunch you three are scammers. Olivia's body is still on ice, right? Perfect. We can grab some DNA. If she's not my wife's kid, not only am I taking back the assets, but I'm also suing you for fraud. We're talking nine hundred billion dollars here. No one's ever seen that before."
Robert yelled, "You're full of it! We didn't scam anyone."
Robert felt a chill run down his spine.
Lost for words, he faked a breathing problem and then passed out in his wheelchair.
Lars, who'd called the meeting, jumped up and dialed his secretary, "Is the ambulance here yet? Another one's down in the conference room. Get them outta here, quick, before someone croaks."
After Lars hung up, the room went dead silent.
He grinned at Declan and said, "Didn't know the shares were such a mess. Let's call off this meeting and sort it out later."
Declan shot him a look and said, "You know Olivia used my wife's money to hire your team for the Hernandez Group, right?"
Lars's grin froze.
Olivia had thrown three hundred million a year to get him on board.
"She blew my wife's cash, three hundred million a year, to hire a loser like you?" Declan sneered.
"Declan, what did I do to you?" Lars took a deep breath, trying to keep his cool. "If Olivia hadn't begged me, I wouldn't be here."
"Cut the crap. You know who pushed Olivia to hire you."
Declan stood up slowly and said, "I don't care about your company's drama, but I'm suing for that nine hundred billion. Soon, seventy percent of the Hernandez Group's shares will be locked up. And your three hundred million? I'm taking that back too."
With that, Declan didn't even glance at Lars's pissed-off face. He shoved his hands in his pockets and walked out with his crew.
Cassie watched Declan leave, then turned to see Joseph glaring at her.
What did she do to tick him off this time?
But now wasn't the moment to dig into it.
Cassie smiled at Lars and said, "Three hundred million to hire you? That's a rip-off. Totally not worth it."
"No matter how much Ms. Brooks hates it, Olivia and I have a contract, signed and sealed," Lars shot back with a cold smirk.
"So what? Just tear up the contract," Cassie shot back. "You think this company's yours? Don't kid yourself. I know David's pulling your strings. Once Olivia's shares are frozen and the lawsuit drags on, the Hernandez family will take control. We can boot you anytime we want."
"And as CEO, you ignore the board's orders. Looks like you're trying to take over. Every high-level position here? All your doing," Cassie said, her words cutting deep. Lars's face twitched.
Joseph had never seen Cassie this icy, but damn, it made her even more captivating.
Lars sneered, "Ms. Brooks, you wanna fire me and all the execs I brought in, huh?"
"So what? You gonna leave?" Cassie sneered back. "Nah, someone like you would stick around, right?"
Lars clenched his fists, seething.
"I know you won't leave," Cassie continued. "But starting tomorrow, Joseph's taking over Mr. Harrison's spot. You're demoted. Don't get all huffy; the board's got the final say, and you, as an employee, gotta deal with it."
With that, she grabbed Joseph's hand and headed for the door.
Just as they reached it, they heard a cup smash behind them.
Cassie gave Joseph a look.
Joseph got the hint and turned back.
He saw Lars glaring daggers at them, a broken cup on the floor.
Joseph raised an eyebrow, his face stern. "First time I've seen a CEO smash a cup and glare at the board."
"No, I dropped it by accident," Lars said coldly. "What, I just have facial muscle spasms. Didn't mean it."
"First time I've seen an employee more arrogant than the boss. Fine, you're out. Don't show up tomorrow," Joseph said with disgust, then pulled Cassie away.
But on the way out, he couldn't shake the disgust from Lars's face. "You think he'll actually leave tomorrow?"
Cassie said, "Nope. He's definitely in David's pocket. David must've promised him a ton, enough to make Lars ditch his dignity. When you show up tomorrow, he'll rally the execs against you. Even if you're CEO, you won't have real power."
Anger flashed in Joseph's eyes. "Cassie, you've had it rough. Dealing with these jerks? Don't worry, I'll make them respect you."
Cassie looked at his serious profile, feeling a warmth inside. "Joey, don't stress. In the end, as long as Declan reclaims the shares and blocks David and Robert, Lars can't do squat. He's just a pawn."
"Yeah, Cassie, I gotta say, Declan was pretty badass," Joseph said, looking at her with a complicated expression. "Do you admire him a lot? When he left, you couldn't take your eyes off him."
