Chapter 502

Cassie found herself in a state of reluctant acceptance, wishing with every fiber of her being that the results were not true.

In the face of Joseph's deteriorating health, she had no choice but to scrutinize Joyce's daily routine of preparing milk and medicine for him. Were these substances truly as benign as they seemed?

Laura's voice broke through her thoughts, "I'll capture the results and send them your way. You need to confront Joseph immediately."

Upon receiving the photo, Cassie wasted no time in seeking out Joseph. His presence was increasingly scarce in the office these days, as he had taken to working primarily from his study.

Without hesitation, she pushed open the door and made her entrance.

Joseph's face lit up at the sight of her. It was a rare occasion for her to seek him out on her own accord. "Miss me?" he teased.

His joviality quickly faded as he noticed her serious demeanor. "What’s wrong?" he asked, concern etching his features.

In response, Cassie rolled her eyes and brandished her phone, displaying the photo she had received.

Joseph’s face fell as he took in the paternity test report, confirming that Robert and Joyce were biologically related. "What does this mean? They're actually related?" he asked, aghast.

The revelation left him reeling. Joyce was supposed to be from the Ray family, wasn't she? How had she become Cassie's cousin?

"No, the real Joyce could never be Robert's daughter. This Joyce is an imposter. She's undergone plastic surgery," Cassie clarified.

Joseph was taken aback. After a moment of stunned silence, he regarded Cassie with a complex expression. " Cassie, are you overthinking this...?"

"No," she asserted firmly. "The first time I met Joyce, I felt a sense of familiarity, but I didn't dwell on it until Laura and I encountered Joyce at the spa. Laura mentioned that the real Joyce had a deep scar under her neck from a childhood accident, but this Joyce bears no such mark. Moreover, her personality is a stark contrast to the Joyce we knew from school. That's why I had a strand of Joyce’s hair tested with Robert’s."

Cassie fixed Joseph with a serious gaze. “Have you considered the fact that Olivia was abducted by an unmarked van and remains missing to this day?”

Joseph responded defensively, “But I took Walter to investigate Joyce’s past. We found nothing suspicious...”

“That might just be the information they want you to see. Did you know the real Joyce well enough to recognize a change in her personality?” Cassie pressed.

Joseph was taken aback, unable to respond.

“Also, consider this. Your friends keep attributing your memory loss to stress, but you were devastated when Megan died, weren't you? Did you experience such symptoms then? Have you ever forgotten the events of the previous day before Joyce started taking care of you?”

Joseph turned pale.

Indeed, he had only recently begun to struggle with frequent headaches and poor memory.

“I’m one hundred percent certain she’s Olivia. What’s her motive for getting so close to you? Have you ever questioned what she’s adding to the milk and the medicine she gives you?”

Cassie’s gaze was grave. “You’re on medication and receiving injections every day. But why is there no improvement?”

Joseph was rendered speechless. He found himself starting to believe her words.
