Chapter 469

A maelstrom of thoughts swirled within Joseph's mind at the sight of the bandage encircling Rosalind's forehead. "You ought to be resting at home; I can have Walter arrange for a caretaker..."

"No need," Rosalind interjected, her lips moving as if she had more to say but held back. "I don't feel comfortable leaving you in this state."

Joseph, under the impression that she was frightened, softened his voice, "I apologize..."

"It's not about me, it's a misunderstanding," Rosalind clarified, “The day you two quarreled, the argument escalated to such an extent that I couldn’t intervene. Joyce Ray hitting you wasn't intentional. When she returned and found you and Joyce Ray in the same bed, I might have misunderstood too."

"What?" Joseph's gaze sharpened, his eyes darkening, "Why was Joyce Ray in my bed?"

Rosalind sighed in exasperation, "The day you fell ill, Joyce Ray rushed to your side. You clung to her the entire time. She managed to get you into bed, and you never let go, Joseph... Did you mistake her for Megan Ray?"

"I didn't..." Joseph's voice was laced with irritation. Had he really held onto someone? He had no memory of such an event.

Rosalind, her frustration mounting, added, "I tried to intervene that night, but she stormed off, completely misunderstanding the situation. And then you locked her in the wine cellar. She must have been terrified."

"I locked her in the wine cellar?" Joseph was taken aback; he had thought it was merely a heated argument.

"Yes, it was heart-wrenching to hear Rosalind cry out that night. She claimed that the Hernandez family had locked her in their cellar, and now you were doing the same."

A pang of guilt surged through Joseph's chest as he pondered over his actions. His headache made a fierce comeback.

Rosalind, alarmed, quickly fetched a pillow to prop him up.

Despite the throbbing pain, sleep remained elusive.

The following morning at the hotel, Cassie made her way into the Peace Group Corporation building.

Walter had been waiting for her, "Rosalind, I have the DNA test results for Luna and Mr. Yeh that you requested."

Cassie was taken aback; despite her fallout with Joseph, Walter was still there to assist her, "Thank you."

She accepted the documents, adding, "This will be the last time I impose on you. And stop addressing me as Rosalind, I'm not her anymore."

"As long as you and Joseph remain married, you're my superior." Walter's concern was evident in his furrowed brows, "Truth be told, Joseph genuinely cares for you. The night before last, after you left the bar, he collapsed from distress. He didn’t regain consciousness until yesterday, and he’s still not well. Last night he was...”

"You should go find Joyce Ray, or pay respects at his ex-girlfriend's grave, not come to me."

Cassie's expression hardened at his words.

Many around Joseph claimed he cared for her, that without her, he'd fall apart, he'd fall ill.

She believed them.

She even suppressed her hatred for the Hernandez family for his sake.

But what did she receive in return? Humiliation, deceit.

"Joseph doesn't have feelings for Joyce Ray..."

"Walter, enough. I don't run a charity here."

Cassie cut him off mid-sentence, her eyes reflecting her disdain.
