Chapter 611
"Joe?" The name slipped out from between Athena's gritted teeth, tainted with a sneer. "Joseph dispatched me on a mission ages ago. I haven't returned for years."
A sudden realization dawned on Cassie. Athena was indeed the person Joseph had assigned to guard Megan, much like he had once appointed Cassie to protect her. Joseph's methods, when it came to women, had remained unaltered over time.
Upon witnessing Megan's most proficient bodyguard being held back, the receptionist was thrown into a state of panic. "Megan, should we alert the authorities?" she asked.
"Yes, call the police," Cassie interjected promptly. "I could also inform them about the hostile takeover of my company."
"Hostile takeover?" Megan retorted with a frigid sneer. "The Peace Group is now under Joseph's ownership. I have been personally appointed as the president by Joseph himself. To be blunt, Cassie, you are as good as dead."
Cassie blinked in surprise. "Dead? I haven't received any death certificate from the police. I can still reclaim my assets. And legally speaking, I am still Joseph's wife. So, aren't you the mistress who has usurped the legitimate wife's company?"
" Cassie, you couldn't have put it better," Jan interjected, clapping his hands in agreement. "This is the most audacious mistress I have ever seen."
"Well, you haven't seen much. This mistress once alleged that I was mentally ill and attempted to have Joseph commit me to a psychiatric hospital," Cassie sighed.
As noon approached, employees began to gather in the lobby downstairs. Cassie's words sent a wave of shock through the crowd, making them realize that Megan's demeanor had drastically changed.
"My goodness, Megan is so ruthless."
"I didn't see it coming. Megan usually appears elegant, generous, and gentle. I idolized her."
"Shh, lower your voice. Megan is the president. What if she overhears us and terminates our employment?"
Megan's face flushed a deep shade of purple with rage.
Ever since Megan had publicly become Joseph's girlfriend, she had been showered with flattery and praise. Everyone revered her like a goddess. Megan had never been subjected to such humiliation before.
" Cassie, if you utter another word, I can sue you for defamation."
"Go ahead. I just dropped by the company today. Tomorrow, I will summon all the shareholders for a meeting. I will personally notify each one of them."
Cassie, pointing her red nail-polished index finger at Megan, continued, "As for you, you will be the first one to be dismissed."
Megan erupted into laughter, bending over as if she had heard the funniest joke. " Cassie, do you really consider yourself significant? The Peace Group today is not what it was three years ago. Go ahead, and notify them. Let's see who attends the shareholders meeting. As for firing me, dream on."
"Well, we'll see about that."
As Cassie turned to leave, she snatched Jan's employee ID card. "You no longer need to be a warehouse manager. Come with me."
"Okay." Jan followed her willingly.
As Jan stepped out of the company's door, a sense of unease washed over him. " Cassie, I'm not sure if I should say this, but I hope you won't get upset..."
Cassie glanced at Jan with a smile. "Are you suggesting that Joseph really dotes on Megan and I stand no chance of winning? Well, you guessed it right," Cassie admitted.
Jan awkwardly flattered, " Cassie, you are incredible. You figured it out right away."
"It's fine, I have given up on Joseph. So what if he spoils Megan? As long as I am still alive, I am the largest shareholder of the Peace Group. Joseph isn't above the law," Cassie said with a faint smile. Jan suddenly realized that he couldn't see through Cassie's true intentions.
Back in the company, Megan immediately signaled her secretary, Athena. Athena promptly dialed Joseph's number. "Joseph, Cassie just stormed into the Peace Group. As soon as she appeared, she grabbed Megan's hair and yanked it, causing some of Megan's hair to come off and her scalp to get injured."
