Chapter 1229 I Don't Plan to Marry You
Lucas was barely keeping his cool tonight.
Finally, he found a way to let it all out.
Usually, he was the type to keep his emotions in check, but now, his dark eyes were blazing with cold, violent anger.
Back in the day, when women tried to play him, he’d just let it slide if it didn’t matter. But Sarah, thinking she was gonna marry him, kept pushing his buttons despite all his warnings.
Bernice didn’t have proof, but Lucas wasn’t dumb.
Sarah’s pretty face went from red to purple as she struggled, almost choking, before Lucas finally let her go.
She gasped for air, feeling like she’d just danced with death.
She looked up at the stone-faced Lucas, fear creeping up her spine.
“I didn’t do it.” Sarah’s tears fell, her face still in shock, looking all pitiful. “I didn’t harm Bernice.”
“Sarah, you’re so fake.” The more Lucas looked at her, the more disgusted he felt. “You know what I hate most about you? You do stuff but don’t own up to it, and then act like you’re the victim.”
Bernice was different in that way.
She was bad, vicious, and cunning, but she owned it.
Sometimes it made him hate her guts, but he didn’t feel disgusted.
“I didn’t do it. If I had, I’d admit it,” Sarah shouted. She was sure she hadn’t done it herself, and it was a public phone with a disposable card, so it couldn’t be traced.
“You think just because you don’t admit it, I can’t do anything to you?” Lucas called her out.
“Lucas, you can’t treat me like this.” Sarah started sobbing. “I don’t mind if you want to be with Bernice. I’ve long decided to turn a blind eye. I know marrying you is my luck, and I never hoped to control you, but you can’t slander me like this.”
“Too bad you don’t realize it’s luck.” Lucas sneered. “Over the years, you’ve gotten greedier. Recently, I heard Olivia’s back, and you’ve been cozying up to her, even going to Dale’s club.”
Sarah bit her lip. “Cassie told you, right? That night, she, Michael, and Laura were all there. I didn’t say a word.”
Lucas smirked. “Should I give you a medal for that?”
Sarah’s face went pale. “Lucas, I had no choice. I know Cassie is Joseph’s girlfriend, and Joseph is your friend. I shouldn’t get too close to Olivia, but you don’t understand Olivia’s current background. Even Stanley wants to get in her good books. I wanted to make connections for the Nelson family so you could go higher and not work so hard.”
“Do you know who’s backing Olivia?” Lucas’s handsome face showed a bit less anger, like Sarah’s words had hit a nerve.
“I don’t know.” Sarah felt embarrassed. “Olivia never took me to meet them, but Dale was super cautious around her, like he was interested in her. Oh, Olivia introduced me to some big director in Austin.”
Lucas turned and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, lost in thought.
He was hoping to get some dirt from Sarah, but she didn’t seem to know squat.
"Lucas, I can introduce you to Olivia. If we get in with her crowd, the Nelson family will hit the big leagues." Sarah mustered up the courage to hug his waist from behind.
Lucas coldly peeled her hands off. "Sarah, do you know that four years ago, Olivia had plastic surgery to look like another woman and snuck into Joseph's life as a caregiver? She drugged him daily, making him worse."
He slowly turned around, his eyes cold and empty. "When she was about to get caught, she used another innocent person as a decoy, making us think she was the one who died in the fire. She even teamed up with Marcus to frame Nina for the fire."
Sarah trembled.
She’d heard bits and pieces about those events but had no clue Olivia was involved or that Nina got framed.
She didn’t even really know Nina.
She’d only vaguely heard that Nina had been with Lucas, but she thought Nina was just another girl Lucas had gotten bored of.
"Do you know who Nina is?" Lucas’s voice was icy. "She was my first love."
With that, he lifted his leg and kicked Sarah hard in the stomach.
Sarah flew backward and hit the ground, trembling in pain.
Lucas walked toward her, step by step, making her feel like it was game over.
"The person I hate most in this life is Olivia. She played me for a fool and made me send Nina to prison. And you still want to be friends with her?" Lucas sneered. "Sarah, you've not only crossed my line this time but also tried to push it further. You weren’t content with a good life as Mrs. Nelson and wanted to own me completely. Do I need you to introduce me to connections? Even if I wanted to climb higher, I’d never rely on Olivia. If you like her so much, go find her yourself. But as for you, I don’t plan to marry you."
His words were like a bucket of ice water dumped over her head.
Sarah was truly scared. She quickly grabbed his pant leg, crying and begging, "No, I can’t live without you. I love you, Lucas. I didn’t know you had such a big grudge against her."
"Sarah, I’ve warned you time and again, but you clearly took my words lightly. Or maybe you thought I was easy to fool. This time, I won’t tolerate you anymore." Lucas bent down, pulled her hands away, and turned to walk coldly toward the door.
"Don’t go, Lucas. I swear, I won't do it anymore." Sarah got up and hugged his leg again.
"Look at you now; you’re so pathetic. Sarah, can’t you leave yourself some dignity?" Lucas’s eyes were filled with even more disgust.
"I love you so much that I don’t need dignity," Sarah cried out.
"Forget it. You love my body, my status, and the glory I bring you." Lucas’s calm eyes showed no emotion.
